Shepherds Mill Road Speed LimitShepherds Mill Road in Clarke County Virginia is used as a short cut and heavily traveled during rush hour. The current speed limit of 55 miles per hour seriously endangers the residents, our pets, and our livestock. It is imperative that the speed limit is lowered to 35 to prevent additional accidents and fatalities on the road.128 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Jo Bighouse

Tell presidential candidates: Restore net neutrality!A federal court just upheld most of the FCC's 2017 decision to overturn net neutrality. Combined with Mitch McConnell's obstruction of the Save the Internet Act in the Senate, it's becoming clear that the presidential candidates themselves will have to be the ones to restore net neutrality -- by appointing a new FCC that will protect a free and open internet. Demand Progress has been helping to lead an effort to get candidates to raise this crucial issue in public debate and commit to restoring net neutrality, including by rejecting campaign contributions from Big Cable. Will you help build the movement?11,523 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Robert Cruickshank

Hey @Google: Stop funding climate change deniersGoogle has released a list of the organizations it sponsors, including groups that consistently deny climate change. What Google is doing is inexcusable and the company MUST stop funding climate change deniers. Google claims to be an advocate for climate change policy. But Google has made generous donations to organizations like CEI that were instrumental in pushing the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris Climate agreement and reverse Obama-era environmental protections. This is absolutely inexcusable. In addition, Google has contributed to organizations like State Policy Network, an umbrella organization including the Heartland Institute, a known anti-science group. Google employees upset by Google’s behavior have even criticized Google for reportedly funding 111 members of Congress who voted against climate legislation 90% of the time. If Google is so supportive of climate change policy, then why are they funding those who vote against the climate action that we need? Join me now in demanding that Google stop funding these climate confusers and start funding climate action. Hold uncooperative Trump officials in contemptPresident Trump is once again putting himself above the law, claiming the House’s impeachment inquiry is "illegitimate" and "unconstitutional" and refusing to comply with any inquiry-related subpoenas. Despite the president's obstinacy, the House must do everything it can to make sure the inquiry moves forward -- and that any Trump administration officials who are implicated by it are held accountable. That includes holding anyone who attempts to obstruct the investigation "in contempt" -- a serious procedure that can result in fines and even jail time for uncooperative witnesses. This administration has proven that subpoenas alone won't be enough. Congress must use every tool it has to rein in this president who consistently abuses his power -- and show a strong, unified response to the administration’s obstruction. Add your name to tell Congress: hold any Trump official who refuses to comply with the House’s impeachment inquiry in contempt.13,370 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Devon Nir, Common Cause

EVERY representative must support the impeachment inquiryU.S. House Republicans cannot sit quietly by as President Trump puts our democracy in jeopardy. By now, most Americans have heard about the shocking evidence that Trump illegally colluded with the Ukranian president -- and abused his power to obtain a foreign government investigation into a political rival to help himself get re-elected. In response to this and other potential crimes, the U.S. House launched an impeachment inquiry into the president. And members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have a constitutional duty to uncover the truth -- and rein in our lawless president -- by voicing their support for this investigation. Republicans must STOP putting their party before the security and integrity of this nation. We need a strong, unified response from Congress to President Trump’s attempts to undermine our democracy. Add your name to urge House Republicans to publicly support the impeachment inquiry -- and hold the president accountable.241 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause

Protect the Sonoran Desert Tortoise from Extinction! The Sonoran desert tortoise is a newly recognized species of tortoise found in the desert scrub habitats in Arizona and Mexico, east and south of the Colorado River. In 2010, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found in a preliminary assessment the tortoise was warranted for endangered species act protections. In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 further reviews reaffirmed the warranted finding. Despite the findings, in 2015 the Service reversed its position and denied protections for the Sonoran desert tortoise. These unique desert animals need legal protections to escape extinction. The Western Environmental Law Center is a nonprofit, public-interest environmental law firm and our expert attorneys will use the full power of the law to take the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to court to force the agency to reconsider its ill-informed decision to not list the Sonoran desert tortoise under the Endangered Species Act.10,334 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Michelle Loth, Western Environmental Law Center

Atatiana Jefferson deserves justice NOWBlack people cannot go a single day without having to bear the pain of knowing we are not safe even in the comfort of our own homes in this country. Another white police officer in Texas has killed a Black person doing nothing but relaxing in their own home, only a couple weeks after the sentencing of Amber Guyger. Atatiana Jefferson, a 28-year-old pre-med student, was at home playing video games with her nephew when police were dispatched to her home after a neighbor noticed her doors were open late at night. He wanted someone to check and make sure she was okay. Instead of making a quick safety check, the police arrived, saw Atatiana moving inside her own home and the officer, who did not self-identify as an officer, yelled "put your hands up" from outside and shot into her window within seconds. He gave Atatiana no time to comply, and no warning. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Within 24 hours, the mayor released body-cam footage of the incident and said the officer was being placed on administrative leave. But that's not nearly enough. Every single time police kill Black people with impunity, they are given time to alter their story, time to villainize the victim, time to figure out how they will escape accountability this time. And we've had enough. Atatiana Jefferson deserves justice NOW. This police officer shouldn't get to remain anonymous and they shouldn't get to stay on the payroll while Atatiana's family has to reckon with the fact that their aunt, sister, and daughter is gone and never coming back. We know we can't rely on the police to investigate themselves nor can we rely on the corrupt district attorney in Tarrant County. DA Sharen Wilson has refused to prosecute killer cops before--most recently in the killing of O'Shae Terry. And she's the same district attorney who prosecuted Crystal Mason, a Black woman who was criminally charged for voting in the election. Sign the petition and help us demand justice for Atatiana. We're calling for: -The officer's identity be revealed and that they are fired immediately. -An independent criminal investigation and the appointment of a special prosecutor. We can't rely on the police to investigate themselves. And we can't rely on Tarrant County DA to deliver justice in this case.36 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Pulin Modi
