Since I was first elected to Congress in 1998, I have brought years of experience as a social worker, public servant, and anti-war advocate to Washington, fighting for policies to promote peace, justice, and equality. We feel that a Public pool in Durand would be a wonderful addition for our great town. It can help grow our local economy. Bring more families into Durand. Give people of ALL ages a place to go. Raul is a husband and father of four children who has been mercilessly detained by ICE for over a year. He was separated from his family when he was detained in March 2017, and has recently been transferred far away from his family to an ICE facility in Colorado, despite the fact that he continues to fight his case in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, located in San Francisco, California. Raul needs your help. Raul has lived in the United States for over 28 years since leaving his home country of Guatemala. On March 22nd, 2017, he was taken from his family and placed in detention at the West County Detention Facility in Contra Costa. Shortly after the termination of ICE’s contract with a local detention center, ICE transferred Raul and many others to Colorado. He was transferred without his family or lawyer receiving advance notice and despite the fact that his case is ongoing in San Francisco, California. There is no reason for Raul to be detained. His family is suffering financially and emotionally while ICE has incarcerated him for over a year. He has missed holidays, birthdays, and other milestones with his family. Because he was prevented from attending his daughter’s quinceañera, she brought the celebration as close to him as possible and danced in her quinceañera gown outside of the West County Detention Facility as a part of a vigil held there. Donald Trump, the bigot-in-chief, is running the country, and profiting off of it at the same time. It's time to do something about it. Take the pledge not to support Trump's bigotry and corruption by boycotting Trump's hotels, golf courses, and any other properties.

Every day, the news on Climate is worse. Extreme fires are burning in West threatening friends and family. Hurricane floods threaten my old home in Florida. Enough is enough. Bold action is so clearly needed, but Congressional Leaders seem distracted by Republican craziness and unwilling to act. If Democrats do win back Congress, we need to Stop Trump - but that's not enough. Democrats need to show real, positive leadership on Climate now.

The increase of factories and distilleries has caused undue yellow film on our cars, homes and gardens. There also has been increase of cancer and deaths. Please help enforce laws to reduce this horrific pollution.

The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy -- but it's in danger. Every election, voters face discriminatory laws, needless barriers, and partisan dirty tricks -- and thousands of eligible Americans are denied a fair say in our democracy. The Voting Rights Act (VRA), one of our nation’s proudest civil rights achievements, used to protect us from this sort of voter suppression. States and counties with a history of voting discrimination had to pre-approve any changes to their voting rules with the Department of Justice -- which stopped thousands of bad laws from taking effect. But when the Supreme Court gutted that pre-clearance requirement in 2013, it invited opportunistic politicians to attack voters’ rights, passing new laws that would have never stood up to review, and making it harder for eligible Americans to have their votes counted. That’s why it’s critically important that Congress act NOW to defend voter’s rights from discrimination. The Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 2978/S. 1419) would take the proactive, pro-voter approach that worked for nearly 50 years with the VRA and bring it nationwide. The VRA has a long history of bipartisan support -- as recently as 2006 it was renewed nearly unanimously by Congress, and signed by President Bush. But now, our most cherished right has become a partisan political football -- and we can’t allow that to happen. Congress must stand up for the right to vote, and pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act -- tell your lawmakers to co-sponsor this bill and make sure it gets a fair hearing today.

New York banned fracking, but our fight against dirty oil and gas infrastructure isn't over. It's time for Governor Cuomo to take the next step against fracking and end our ruinous reliance on fossil fuels. Right now, New York faces an onslaught of dirty new fracked gas power plants. Governor Cuomo can stop these plants and move the state off fossil fuels, but he needs to hear from all of us to make it happen. Take action today.

I live in one of the critical swing Congressional districts in New York that will determine who controls the House of Representatives. Governor Andrew Cuomo promised us that he would help Democrats win Congress this year — but his actions tell a very different story. Cuomo has taken $64,000 from Donald Trump, $87,000 from the Koch brothers, and millions in campaign donations from other Republican donors — and refuses to give any of it back. In turn, he has enabled Republican control of the New York State Senate, blocking tax increases on the rich, education equity, and other progressive policies those same donors want to see killed. Now he's running on the Independence Party line along with Republican candidates for Congress, likely handing them tens of thousands of votes in key races. That's inexcusable. With the amount of lax gun control, continued shootings nationally and fear in families of both school children and teachers, anyone who is working for the NRA should be penalized. Stop supporting the NRA to get tougher gun control laws. If you do business with this company, know the NRA has been a loyal customer for over 20 years.
