Despite Costco's commitment to end the use of cruel gestation crates by 2017, a recent open rescue investigation into a Costco supplier revealed most mother pigs trapped in tiny gestation crates, unable to assist as their babies were slowly dying. Furthermore, activists found dying baby pigs piled up inside crowded farrowing crates, covered in blood and excrement, and up to 1/3 of them will die before even reaching slaughter. Shockingly, piglets whose mothers are mutilated by years of abuse are sometimes forced to drink their mother's blood in order to survive.

I waited two years for affordable senior housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most expensive rental markets in the country, where most housing wait lists have been closed for years. We love our well-maintained homes and safe community. But the President's proposed deep cuts to HUD and USDA housing programs would mean rent and utility increases immediately, less money for property maintenance, and even longer waits for future affordable housing. We need more affordable housing, not less. Tell Congress to stop these proposed cuts and fully fund affordable housing programs now.

Social Action Linking Together (SALT), a faith-based advocacy group of more than 1200 members, is opposed to the death penalty primarily because it advances vengeance rather than justice. SALT is in solidarity with Pope Francis on this matter of opposing the death penalty, and, in opposing the death penalty, we embrace the sound moral reasoning of Pope Francis, which you will find below. In a message released in June 2016, Pope Francis made a statement regarding the death penalty that includes these comments: 1) “It (the death penalty) does not render justice to victims, but instead fosters vengeance.” 2) “It is an offense to the inviolability of life and to the dignity of the human person; it likewise contradicts God’s plan for individuals and society, and his merciful justice.” 3) “Punishment for its own sake, without room for hope, is a form of torture, not of punishment.” 4) Pope Francis also noted that rendering justice “does not mean seeking punishment for its own sake, but ensuring that the basic purpose of all punishment is the rehabilitation of the offender.” 5) Francis, in addition, made clear that the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” applies both for the innocent and to the guilty…”

I met my husband two years ago in an FB singles group. I had no intention of ever dating again as I had been through a terrible divorce. We talked and became friends and then decided to meet. He told me he had a 6-year-old daughter and then dropped a bombshell. He couldn't see her regularly because his ex-wife accused him of molesting her. I was stunned and of course thought there's no way I can continue even a friendship with this man. Then, I thought, first of all, a pedophile doesn't announce he's a pedophile. I decided I wanted to meet his daughter and see them interact. One time seeing this little girl do everything she could to get away from her mom and run to her dad and jump in his arms was all I needed to see. Shortly after, there was a court date for him to try and get more time and I decided to put his paperwork together. I was appalled at the things I read. His daughter had NEVER been taken to a doctor, DCFS didn't do an investigation - they turned it over to law enforcement - and he was interrogated until they found out that the day he supposedly "molested" his daughter he was with numerous people, none that were spoken to about the incident. He sold everything he had to fight for this little girl and to this day he still does. He agreed to go to counseling, his daughter and ex also agreed so that they could work towards a 50/50 schedule. He committed his end; his daughter hasn't been to counseling for 6 months and I doubt his ex has gone once. A person doesn't become a pedophile once and then stop. I have three older children, all who love my husband, all who are comfortable with him and support him. We now have a granddaughter with whom he is amazing. For two years I've watched this woman do everything she can to keep this little girl from her dad. I watched her work the system, and I've watched the system enable her. This little girl loves her dad and should be allowed to be with him, he should not have to live with the stigma of being a predator, of having to sell everything he owns in order to see her. He shouldn't have letters written to his employer telling them he's a pedophile when the case against him has been closed for over 3 years now. Today is the 4th of July; if the court petition had been followed we would have been able to have his daughter on the 3rd at 6 pm until the 5th at 7 pm; instead, we get her from 12-6 and are unable to do anything because that's how her mom dictates it. This is wrong and it needs to be stopped. She should be charged and any woman who does these kinds of things should be charged.

By releasing voting data on every voter in the 2016 election, you are opening them up to possible targeting of hackers and those who could cause physical harm. We ask the you stop this move by Secretary of State Kris Kobach to endanger the privacy of Kansas residents.

Most TANF participants face multiple barriers to employment. Few (15 percent) of those with multiple barriers get jobs, while over 60 percent of those with no barriers gain employment. Work readiness (poor mental or physical health, education less than high school, lack of recent work experience, and lack of English-language proficiency) is a major impediment to employment. Two additional factors include having a young child and having a handicapped child. Other barriers include lack of child care for preschool children and those whose parents work at night, lack of before-after-school care, absence of employment opportunities in the community, mental and physical abuse, substance abuse, and care-giving responsibility for aged or handicapped relatives.

It is UNconstitutional to bar a minor's right to sue when they become the age of majority, 18 plus 2 years. The Texas Supreme Court needs to reverse their decision to uphold the minor of repose and cancel out a minor's right to sue if it's been more than 10 years!!!!The statute provides that minors under the age of 12 have until their 14th birthday to file a claim. This has been declared unconstitutional. It is generally believed that the two-year statute of limitation for minors will not begin to run until they reach 18 years of age. The TEXAS Supreme Court used to protect minor's rights! Although the statute says that the two-year time period begins to run against minors at age twelve, the Texas Supreme Court held that similar language in the predecessor statute was unconstitutional, allowing those whose claims accrued before their eighteenth birthdays to sue at any time until age twenty! Now the TEXAS Supreme Court has upheld the statue of repose that bars a minor from suing once they turn 18. This is unAmerican and should still be held unconstitutional! Tort Reform is a conflict of interest that supports the medical community, NOT the citizens. Tort reform caps have not saved doctors any money except in less settlement owed to their injured patients. They have a duty to DO NO HARM!! It has just allowed them to practice without regard to duty of care. Please stop the injustice of the Texas Statute of Repose and reverse the law so a minor may still have a right to an Open Court and I support Justice Lehrmann dissent on the ruling in 2014! The open courts provision of the Texas Constitution ensures that all litigants receive the opportunity to redress their grievances and receive their day in court. Tex. Const. Ann. art. 1, § 13; Odak v. Arlington Mem’l Hosp. The statue of repose violates this provision! Our children deserve their day in court and their voices to be heard!!
