• SAVE THE CULVER BOULEVARD MEDIAN PARK - AGAIN!
The bulldozing of the Culver Median Park that seemed to be prevented three years ago (our Move On petition then was noticed by the city) has now been combined with an urban storm water capture project that is part of a larger area plan to clean up water getting to the ocean. This environmentally important goal is, however, being used as an excuse to fast track the combined projects, limiting the time for, and responsiveness to, important public concerns about serious local impacts and loss of the trees. The public works department believes they have a done deal. The project is very over-scaled for the small area of the median park and the devil is in the details. Thus our long petition addressing those vital details

  • Protect the Arctic Refuge from drilling
One of America’s last untouched wild areas could soon be opened up to destructive oil and gas drilling. In an unprecedented move, Congress has snuck a provision in their tax bill that opens the door to drilling in Alaska’s Arctic Refuge.

  • Austin: Save our Wildlife
Wildlife habitats and populations have become severely fragmented due to rapid urbanization. We as a city need to ensure that our natural wildlife is sustained through building infrastructure that can support them. Hello everyone! I am working on my portfolio titled Sustaining Wildlife Biodiversity in the Face of Urbanization. Austin has lost many species now considered to be Endangered and on the brink of extinction such as the Red Wolf due to the rapid urbanization to accommodate the citizens and visitors nationwide. We are still home to many species that are Endangered or Threatened such as the Barton Springs Salamander. We need to find a middle ground to support the coexistence of wildlife and humans. I have created this petition to the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, to call for the need to reconstruct infrastructure to protect and include native species in our city of Austin and the state of Texas overall. Please join me and sign my petition to save our wildlife biodiversity!!!

  • Pass the Fur Ban in San Francisco!
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will be considering a ban on the sale fur in the next few months. Sign the petition to let the Mayor know you support the ban. Together, let’s make fur history! -- Over 50 million animals are exploited and killed for their fur each year. These animals are sentient beings who feel pain, can suffer, and want to live. Mink, foxes, and rabbits are confined in tiny wire cages inside of fur farms where they go insane from boredom, stress, and lack of stimulation. Many are killed in grotesque and brutal ways, including anal and vaginal electrocution. Coyotes and other wild animals are caught in leg-hold traps and suffer slow, agonizing deaths. Practices like these have no place in a progressive city like San Francisco. We are calling on the city to ban the sale of fur, as West Hollywood and Berkeley have already done. There exist numerous alternatives that are equally as warm, better for the environment, and do not require killing animals.

  • Habitat for animals
Farmers are destroying precious habitat for small woodland animals. They rip out fence lines that border crop fields. These fence lines are valuable habitats for rabbits, squirrels, bobwhite quail, and other various species of birds. Deer will follow fence lines when travelling from one woods to the next. If these animals do not have these fence lines they will decrease in numbers from lack of shelter and food. Not only do these fence lines shelter animals but they also shelter our own homes from the winter wind, dust, and other various forms of mother nature that could be damaging to our homes and persons. All just for a few more rows of crops! Most of these farmers do not own these lands but they lease them to farm them, and the landowners do not understand all the destruction these farmers are doing to the land and the animals.

  • Norbest: Pardon ALL the turkeys!
A Norbest turkey is being pardoned in the days before Thanksgiving, but in light of the sickening abuse exposed in a DxE investigation, the company CEO should pardon ALL the turkeys. Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) recently investigated a Norbest farm in Utah and found sick animals being trampled and eaten alive. One of the largest turkey suppliers in the nation, Norbest touts its practices as “humane, with the health and comfort of the birds of paramount importance.” But DxE’s Open Rescue team found sickening cruelty. UPDATE: Norbest claims it is suspending operations at the farm DxE investigated, but we need your help to show them that ALL turkey farming is cruel. DxE found records showing hepatitis in the farm, as well as birds with massive tumors on their faces. Investigators saw live birds being ripped apart to pieces in the crowded, filthy locations and baby birds with their faces and toes cut off. While investigating the farm, DxE’s open rescue team saw Abby and immediately recognized that she urgently needed medical care - Abby was dragging herself across the farm with a crooked neck. Activists rushed her to receive veterinary care and, today, Abby lives happily at a sanctuary. While Abby is safe from harm, millions of other turkeys are suffering a horrific fate. Sign the petition and ask Norbest to cut ties with all animal-abusing suppliers. NorbestCruelty.com

  • NO to chemical industry insider Michael Dourson leading EPA toxics office!
Clean and safe water is a human right. Full stop. Michael Dourson has spent his career helping companies like Dupont shirk responsibility for contaminating groundwater with dangerous chemicals known to harm kids and families. How does he make sense working at the very office charged with protecting us? He doesn't. The Senate could vote on Dourson any day. Let’s make sure our voices are heard loud and clear. Our health, our families and our water are NOT for sale to the chemical industry. Join us in telling the Senate NO to Michael Dourson.

  • Save Elephants and Lions - Stop Trump’s Trophy Hunting Plan
“When a species' greatest value is as a dead trophy, its days will inevitably be numbered, just as they are when the value of their parts -- like ivory tusks, tiger skins, or rhino horn -- make protection from poachers nearly impossible."

  • Save The Elelphants even if Trump Won't
One of the most beautiful creatures in the world is the elephant. Nothing in the world like these majestic giants. Horrifically our president signed legislation just today allowing ivory imported into to our country agan, reversing important legislation to protect the dwindling numbers of elephants. I don't know about you but I don't want my kid saying to me one day., "Daddy what did elephants look like, and how did they make that trumpet noise and shoot water out of their trunk?" This is not something that can wait until another day. Elephants could be no more if we do not stand up and fight Trump now for allowing ivory in our country again. His actions benefit no one but his trophy hunting son. Elephants are near extinction already. Lifting the band on ivory will only multiply the slaughter of elephants. This goes beyond politics. Extinction is forever and that day should never come for elephants. This must be stopped now. Tell Washington to keep ivory out of our country forever.

  • Tell Kate Brown to Speak Out Against Jordan Cove Now!
Governor Brown's reelection website says she is "Oregon's Progressive Champion" and "She is standing up to anyone who would take our rights away, threaten our access to affordable health care, or pollute our air and water" yet she refuses to oppose the Jordan Cove Fracked Gas Pipeline. This proposed pipeline and export terminal would become one of the largest polluters in Oregon, use eminent domain to take property rights from private land owners so a Canadian company could sell cheap fracked gas to Asian markets, disturb Native American territories and burial grounds, endanger 400 waterways, estuaries, and salmon habitat. And that's the best case scenario; if there are accidents or mishaps which are the rule not the exception with pipelines, the damage could be catastrophic. The Democratic Party of Oregon's platform already says it is a legislative priority to keep this fracked gas pipeline from being built, yet our Democratic governor refuses to stand with her Party on this issue. Governor Brown, will you stand up for the rights of Native Americans and the health of our environment for current and future generations? • Recycling Cans Outside of FSU Law
A plastic bottle can take 450 years to decompose. If it is sent to a recycling plant, it can be downcycled into something new. Aluminum cans can take 200 years to break down. Glass bottles have an undetermined amount of time. Both are infinitely recyclable if sent to a recycling plant. Yet, everyday these items appear in the landfill bins outside of FSU Law! Sign the petition to add recycling bins outside of FSU Law, around the patio, and around the green!
