• Comment period just opened: Tell CA’s DPR this proven neurotoxic pesticide has to go
“Friday, May 5th was one of the scariest days ever ... I think it’s unfortunate that workers weren’t told what to do with their soiled clothes. I hope nobody brought their clothes inside or hugged their children or loved ones when they got home wearing their same work clothes.” -- Aylin California officials just announced steps to address the threat of brain-harming insecticide, chlorpyrifos. Instead of being a leader, CA is failing by following the Trump line of more studies are needed. California’s plan doesn’t protect those most directly impacted by exposure to chlorpyrifos — children and farmworkers. Their plan calls for a public comment period, more studies, additional risk assessments and basically more delaying tactics. In addition, these types of studies don't consider the already proven brain-harming effects on children’s developing brains. This re-assessment may conclude in December of 2018. Action is needed now. Farm workers and their children must not keep on inadvertently being exposed to this neurotoxic chemical. Make your voice heard on the Department of Pesticide Regulations’ (DPR) 45 day public comment period. Tell California officials to stop delaying. More delaying tactics can mean more cases like those we just witnessed. There have been two cases since May where chlorpyrifos drift is being investigated. Aylin (story above) was one of 48 cabbage workers who were exposed to chlorpyrifos. The pesticides drifted a half-mile from where they were applied - more than 26 times the limit set by current rules aimed at protecting field workers. Scientists have known for many years that chlorpyrifos damages children’s developing brains — reducing IQs, changing brain architecture and increasing risk of learning disabilities and disorders. That’s why it was banned for home use in 2001 and why we need it banned in the fields so Aylin, her co-workers and their families will not keep being test subjects. As the largest agricultural producer and a huge user of chlorpyrifos, what CA does affects the nation. California has an opportunity to be a national leader on this issue. Sign on to the public comment period today and say, “California must follow the science and take action to protect communities across the state.”

  • YES ON #SB100 - 100 PERCENT CLEAN ENERGY FOR CALIFORNIA
California has long been a leader in clean energy. We now can pass a truly visionary bill: SB 100, moving California to 100 percent renewable and carbon free power by 2045. This is the strongest step we can take as a state to demonstrate our commitment to fighting climate change and improving air quality while continuing to lead on job creation in California. The current federal government won’t help us - it’ll attack our California values every step of the way. Of course Californians will defend our state. But SB 100 will show the White House that we’re not just resisting - we’re creating a better world. We’ll build an economy running on clean energy. And we’ll bring cleaner air to every Californian. It starts with the Assembly voting YES on SB 100. The bill, authored by Senate Pro Tem Kevin DeLeon, already passed the state Senate. Now it heads to the Assembly. Your assemblymember needs to hear from you: Yes on SB 100!

  • Clean It Up, Plano!
I am a resident of Plano, and an aware of the contamination at 2300 West Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas. Dell, Inc. Is requesting an MSD ordinance, which would simply prevent the water from being used. According to the TCEQ, if an MSD is granted, the likelihood that the contamination will ever be cleaned up is significantly reduced or completely eliminated. Several of the contaminants are carcinogenic, and all of them can cause major health issues. We are asking that the Plano City Council vote "NO" to the application, and tell Dell, Inc. to clean up the contamination!

  • Preserve Federal Lands
I believe that if President Trump starts privatizing federal land or allowing states to manage them, we will lose them forever and never get them back. As our population grows, the importance of these lands increases. How will we teach future generations the value of nature and the beauty of natural spaces?

  • Tell the governor of Edo State: Protect forests and local land rights!
Edo State, located in Nigeria's tropical forest, is facing some of the highest rates of deforestation in Africa. And a recent order by the state's governor will give over 345,000 acres of land to a foreign palm oil company. These forests are held sacred by local indigenous communities who have resided here since time immemorial. “The water in our streams is very clean and clear and has healing properties,” says local Chief Esogban of Umokpe “We clean up the stream every year. This is sacred land. If Okumu Palm Oil Company comes here, things will go wrong.” We need your help to urge to the governor of Edo State to cancel this palm oil concession! Tell the governor of Edo State to protect the forest!

We are environmentally conscious mothers, grandmothers, and Costco members who are aware that for every ounce of plastic produced, between one and five ounces of greenhouse gases are made.
