  • Save Graniteville Woods and Wetlands
If the forests on the Eastern shoreline remained during Hurricane Sandy, they would have buffered the rising waters and perhaps there would not have been the kind of destruction we witnessed as well as the tragic loss of life. Proposed development of this land puts the surrounding community at risk of serious flooding, traffic, and pollution and endangers wildlife and makes economically vulnerable people responsible for picking up the pieces when harm is done.

  • Crack down on the killing of protected sharks
Shark researcher David Shiffman recently studied postings to the online message boards of one of the largest land-based fishing clubs in Florida, the South Florida Shark Club, and found hundreds of postings detailing the catching and killing of protected sharks. The online news magazine, The Revelator (linked below), interviewed Shiffman, who found users on the message boards openly claiming to have knowingly caught protected species and some saying they would continue to do so. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has an obligation to enforce ALL conservation laws in the state and investigate reports of illegal behavior. Please sign the petition to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission asking them to investigate these postings by reported members of the South Florida Shark Club and all violations of the Endangered Species Act and other conservation laws. http://therevelator.org/florida-anglers-endangered-sharks/

  • EPA failed. Time for California to step up.
“I have always heard about how dangerous pesticides can be – but I never thought I would one day have to go to the emergency room because of them too. Friday, May 5th was one of the scariest days ever ... I think people wouldn’t buy these fruits if they knew how harmful the chemicals they use can be. I think it’s unfortunate that workers weren’t told what to do with their soiled clothes. I hope nobody brought their clothes inside or hugged their children or loved ones when they got home wearing their same work clothes.” -- Aylin On May 5th, Aylin was one of 48 cabbage workers who were exposed to chlorpyrifos. The pesticides drifted a half-mile from where they were applied -- more than twice as far as proposed buffer zones for schoolchildren and more than 26 times the limit set by current rules aimed at protecting field workers. Chlorpyrifos, a dangerous neurotoxin, was scheduled to be banned but was still in use because, in March, Trump’s EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt abruptly reversed the scheduled ban. Chlorpyrifos was banned for home use in 2001 because of its clear impact on children’s developing brains. However, it continues to be used in agriculture despite decades of science showing that this chemical can lead to lower IQ, developmental and behavioral disorders, reduced lung function and more. EPA scientists have said there is “no safe level” of this neurotoxicant on food crops. As the largest agricultural producer, what CA does will affect the nation. More than 1 million pounds of chlorpyrifos is used annually in the state. Take action and urge the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) to ban this incredibly harmful pesticide.

  • Ban Single-use Plastic Bags!
Only 9% of Plastic in the United States is recycled. 8 Million metric tons of plastic end up in the oceans every year, poisoning marine life and humans who eat seafood. It is time the government steps up and bans the production of single-use plastic (including bags, take-out cups, plastic straws, etc)! These single-use products are extremely durable and contain innumerable toxic chemicals which leach into the ocean. • Butane Gas Tanks in San Pedro
Twenty-five million gallons of highly explosive butane gas (three-mile blast radius) is being stored by Plains All American Pipeline /Rancho LPG LLC on the back doorsteps of neighborhoods, schools, and shopping centers, in the LA Harbor Area. The tanks were built in 1973 "without permitting" and sit within mere feet of the Palos Verdes Fault (potential earthquake magnitude 7.3). They would not be sited there today with the knowledge we have gained since 1973. PLEASE TELL THE STATE LANDS COMMISSION: to complete a "Comprehensive Risk Analysis" to determine that the operation is "safe" for its location. Also, for the State Lands Commission to establish that any disastrous event stemming from this site is insured commensurate with the potential resulting damages. Thank you for signing this petition!

  • Petition to ban the use of pesticides and fertilizers on taxpayer-owned property of Jaffrey, NH
To stop the use of toxic chemicals in the Town of Jaffrey, NH on town owned property where children and pets play, often right after pesticides are applied. Also to educate the public about the harmful side effects of such chemicals where as those side effects are either largely unknown or down played now and the warnings posted after application, though in line with current state regulations, are minimal and understated to effectively keep kids and pets off of treated lawns.

  • Feces, hair and toenails in pork? No thanks, President Trump!
Under MSSI, inspectors would be required to monitor 83 pounds of pork per second and 1,300 hogs per hour. The Food Integrity Campaign represents whistleblowers in the food sector. Four federal meat inspectors came to us and submitted startling affidavits regarding the government’s high-speed slaughter pork pilot inspection program. One whistleblower said, "On numerous occasions I witnessed [company inspectors] fail to spot abscesses, lesions, fecal matter, and other defects that would render an animal unsafe or unwholesome." We are petitioning Donald Trump and the USDA to stop a new dangerous pork inspection rule that would expand the pilot program nationally.

  • Protect the Endangered Species Act
The Endangered Species Act is helping to save more than 1,600 U.S. plants, fish, and animal species from extinction so they will continue to be a part of our children's and grandchildren's worlds. The Endangered Species Act has a whopping 99 percent success record at preventing the extinction of listed species. It helped to prevent the extinction of our nation's symbol, the bald eagle, the grizzly bear, gray whale, peregrine falcon, and many other species. It is a critical tool in ensuring that the nation we leave for our children is not one without the plants, fish, and animals that we share space with today. We must maintain the Endangered Species Act in its current form and oppose any attempts to weaken, update, modernize, or reauthorize this vital conservation law. Tell Congress to stop these bill which would transfer Endangered Species Act listing decisions from scientists to politicians, legislatively delist wolves, and block courts from reviewing these actions.

The Endangered Species Act is helping to save more than 1,600 U.S. plants, fish, and animal species from extinction so they will continue to be a part of our children's and grandchildren's worlds. This benchmark conservation law has saved the bald eagle, gray whale, grizzly bear, and many others and has a whopping 99 percent success record at preventing the extinction of listed species. In spite of the success of this law and the urgent need for the protections it provides, Congress has taken aim at it with more than two dozen pieces of legislation that would weaken it. Bills that would transfer Endangered Species Act listing decisions from scientists to politicians, legislatively delist wolves, and block courts from reviewing these actions.
