BAN WEAPONS SALES TO SAUDI ARABIA UNTIL THEY END JUVENILE EXECUTIONSAli Mohammed Al Nimr was only 16 when he was arrested for demonstrating for democracy in Saudi Arabia, an authoritarian country where protests are illegal. Ali, and other Arab Spring protesters, were calling for democracy, perhaps the most American of all values. And yet, the US government, which is a close ally to Saudi Arabia, has turned a blind eye to his case, and to the cases of other non-violent protesters. As a result, Saudi has tortured Ali and sentenced him to execution by crucifixion, an act of astounding barbarity. If the United States government truly stands for freedom and democracy, it must stop Saudi Arabia from carrying out this egregious violation of basic human rights. It must pressure King Salman to release all political prisoners, including Ali Mohamed al-Nirm, Dawood al-Marhoon, and Abdullah al-Zaher, who were all minors at the time of their arrest.254 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Esha P

.@BernieSanders: Tell @AIPAC that Settlements are not IsraelThe American Israel Public Affairs Committee [AIPAC] policy conference is in Washington March 20-22. All presidential candidates are invited. Hillary Clinton is going. [1] Bernie Sanders can use this opportunity to be a truth-teller to AIPAC. When President Obama's National Security Advisor Susan Rice spoke at AIPAC last year, she told them things that they didn't want to hear: that their demands that Iran cease all enrichment of uranium were unrealistic, and that their demands that the U.S. walk away from negotiations with Iran and increase sanctions on Iran instead were unrealistic. AIPAC didn't like it, but Susan Rice didn't let that stop her from telling the truth. [2] J Street [3] and Americans for Peace Now [4] have opposed AIPAC's campaign to legitimize Israeli settlements in the West Bank. If J Street can do it, Bernie Sanders can do it too. Bernie has called for a "level playing field" in U.S. policy towards Israel and the Palestinians [5] and has called for Israel to "end the blockade of Gaza, and cease developing settlements on Palestinian land." [6]. Urge Bernie Sanders to tell AIPAC that settlements are not Israel by signing our petition. .@HillaryClinton: Tell @AIPAC that Settlements are not IsraelHillary Clinton will address the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's policy conference in Washington March 20-22. [1] Just because Hillary is speaking at AIPAC, doesn't mean she has to pander to AIPAC. When President Obama's National Security Advisor Susan Rice spoke at AIPAC last year, she told them things that they didn't want to hear: that their demands that Iran cease all enrichment of uranium were unrealistic, and that their demands that the U.S. walk away from negotiations with Iran and increase sanctions on Iran instead were unrealistic. .@jorgeramosnews @mariaesalinas @ktumulty: Ask re: #BertaCáceres @ #Destino2016 #DemDebateHonduras has lost one of its most courageous indigenous leaders, Berta Cáceres. Cáceres was the General Coordinator of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras. In 2015, she won the Goldman Environmental Prize for her activism and leadership. She was assassinated on March 2. At her memorial service on March 5, Berta's children read a statement from Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. In his statement, Leahy said: "the investigation of this crime must be independent and comprehensive, including the participation of international experts. Those responsible for ordering and carrying it out must be brought to justice…the Rio Blanco and the territory that Berta devoted her life to defend, should be protected. The Agua Zarca dam project should be abandoned." [1] U.S. government policy is implicated in Berta's death. The U.S. government has financed and defended the Honduran government that failed to protect Berta's life. [2] Senator Leahy has said future U.S. aid to the government of Honduras should be tied to the outcome of an independent investigation into the assassination. [3] Urge Jorge Ramos, María Elena Salinas, and Karen Tumulty to ask Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton how U.S. government policy in Honduras should change following this crime by signing our petition. Urge the Honduran Government to Condemn the Killing of Indigenous Human Rights ActivistsDefending human rights in Honduras has become a life-threatening activity for Indigenous leaders. In an effort to stop them from defending their ancestral land they are harassed, kidnapped, seriously injured or killed. We need the Honduran government to hold the criminals accountable and to protect the Human Rights Activists that are in immanent danger. The Garifuna Nation is an international Garifuna organization with Representatives from the countries of: Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize and the United States of America. The main purpose of this organization is to preserve and promote our culture, monitor human rights violations, look after the social, political, economic and cultural interest of Garifuna people in the countries previously mentioned and to take appropriate actions to resolve any problems that our people are facing. Ms. Berta Caceres was an environmental activist and indigenous leader of the Lenca people, She was co-founder and coordinator of the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH). In 2006, a group of indigenous Lenca people from Río Blanco were informed of a joint venture project between a Chinese company Sinohydro, the World Bank's International Finance Corporation, and Honduran company Desarrollos Energéticos (also known as DESA). They planned to construct a series of four dams on the Gualcarque River. This was a breach of international law which required that any and all projects concerning the land of the Lenca people were to be consulted and approved by them. Cáceres worked together with the community to mount a protest campaign. She organized legal actions and community meetings against the project, and took the case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Cáceres led COPINH and the local community in a year-long protest at the construction site to prevent the companies from accessing the land. In doing so she, the members of her organization and the community regularly received death threats and harassment. In May 2014, two separate attacks were carried out against the members of COPINH resulting in the deaths of two of the members. As a result, dozens of regional and international organizations called upon the Honduran government to stop criminalizing the defense of human rights, to protect the trailblazers of the Indigenous Human Rights Activists and to investigate threats against them. On February 20, 2016, over 100 protesters were detained by security while protesting, and threats against the organization began to increase. Despite the fact that the Honduran government was responsible for ensuring her safety, on Thursday March 3rd, 2016 Ms. Berta Caceres was assassinated in her home by unknown assailants during what the Honduran government deemed to be a “home invasion” and “robbery”. Due to the lack of evidence that would support a “home invasion” or a robbery”, said explanation is rejected by the members of her family, the people in her community and several other reputable human rights organizations in Honduras and abroad. As a result we ask that you join us in demanding the following from Honduran government: A full investigation on the assassination Human Rights Activist Ms. Berta Caceres. That the result of the investigation be released directly to the United Nations, OAS, US Secretary of State, Amnesty International providing access to the public; The immediate security and protection of other Honduran Indigenous Leaders and members of their organizations including our own Garifuna Leader Miriam Miranda, the President of OFRANEH; Your signing this petition will give a powerful voice to the indigenous organizations and human rights activists. It will show that you stand with us in the fight against the continued abuse and corruption of the Honduran Government. The President of Honduras swore to execute and uphold the Laws of the country on behalf of all of its citizens and we hope, pray and demand that he live by this oath. Attention: President of Honduras, Orlando Hernandez, United Nations Human Rights Commission, OAS Commission on Human Rights, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Amnesty International other International Human Rights Agencies, OFRANEH, AAGANIC, NGC, ONEGUA and all Garinagu Organizations.405 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Carmen Miranda

Jim Jordan: Don’t let bad trade deals hurt OhioIn early 2016, the United States and 11 other countries signed the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) at a ceremony in New Zealand. This massive trade deal is bigger and scarier than ones we’ve seen in the past, like NAFTA. The TPP was written in secret, without considering workers’ interests, and will shop our jobs overseas, let corporations lower our wages and give rich CEOs and extreme interest groups even more control over our jobs and our communities. Elected officials in Congress still hold the power to stop the TPP, and Rep. Jim Jordan can do the right thing and vote against it when it comes up in the House. Tell Jim Jordan to do the right thing for Ohio and oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement and other bad trade deals.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Melissa Miser

.@nytimes: Acknowledge U.S. Role in Saudi War in YemenOn February 5, the Huffington Post reported that Democratic Senator Chris Murphy had "called for the U.S. to cease military involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen." [1] But according to a New York Times report on Feb. 22, what Senator Murphy called for ending doesn't exist. The Times reported: "Western intervention in Libya, led by France and Britain, has created only greater instability there, while the war in Yemen, waged by Middle Eastern proxies with no overt Western involvement, continues unabated, suggesting no easy answers anywhere in the region." [2] We've urged other Senators to join Senator Murphy in calling for the U.S. to end its involvement in the Saudi war in Yemen. [3] It's sure not going to help our efforts if the New York Times won't even acknowledge that U.S. involvement exists. Urge the New York Times to correct the record and to fully acknowledge the U.S. role in the Saudi war in Yemen by signing our petition. Congress: End the Anti-Corruption Charade in HondurasMillions of dollars of public funds from Honduras' health care system were funneled to the ruling National Party and the election campaign of President Juan Orlando Hernández. No charges have been brought against Hernández or other top party officials over the diversion of funds to the party. Human rights advocates in Honduras are insisting on an independent, United Nations-backed body to investigate, and 54 Members of Congress have urged Secretary of State Kerry to support this demand. [1] In 2009, the State Department under Secretary Hillary Clinton helped a military coup in Honduras succeed by blocking efforts to restore the left-leaning president, Manuel Zelaya, to power. [2] [3] Since then, more than 100 members of Congress have called on the Obama administration to condemn human rights violations by Honduras' security forces, and have questioned U.S. "security assistance" to Honduras. [4] The appropriations legislation in Congress for 2016 provides tools to pressure the Honduran government. It makes half the "assistance" to Honduras conditional on State Department certification that the authorities are taking effective steps to combat corruption, cooperate with commissions against impunity, and investigate and prosecute “members of military and police forces who are credibly alleged to have violated human rights.” Urge Congress to use its leverage against corruption in Honduras by signing our petition.
