Tacoma City Council, 1. Adopt a Sanctuary City Resolution: Codify into Tacoma City ordinance that police officers will not act as defacto immigration agents, that City employees refrain from performing duties from the Department of Homeland Security, and that the City will not cooperate or assist with any unconstitutional or illegal registration or surveillance programs targeted at any immigrants in Tacoma. 2. Continue to block any expansion of the Northwest Detention Center or any private correctional facilities across the City of Tacoma. If necessary, legislate changes to the City code to ensure this is enforced. With Trump’s expansion to the deportation machine, our City needs to be proactive to prevent the detention of undocumented immigrants. 3. Create a legal defense fund for undocumented immigrants who currently do not have a right to legal representation in immigration proceedings even though the federal government is legally represented throughout the process. Legal representation will ensure that immigrants are 10.5 times more likely to remain in their community. 4. Initiate the Immigrant and Refugee Task Force to address issues facing undocumented immigrants living and working in our City. This task force should include include diverse representation of immigrants, undocumented immigrants, refugees, and LGBTQ, labor, educators, faith, and ally community leaders.

New York has the opportunity to do something on behalf of the people of the United States of America that we cannot do for ourselves and force the release of the state tax returns of the President. This will also set an excellent legal precedent for future disclosure for ALL of our elected officials who should not be allowed to secretly profit from their public service at the cost of our security and ability to make informed choices of who our representatives are beholden to.

Net Neutrality keeps the internet free and open — enabling anyone to share and access information of their choosing without interference from companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon. But the Trump administration wants to get rid of Net Neutrality and shut down the open internet. Despite Net Neutrality’s popularity across the political spectrum, Trump's FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is about to introduce a plan that would destroy it -- he needs to be stopped.

President Donald Trump's erratic behavior and displays of mental instability increase significantly day to day, as the world watches. This is a serious crisis that can destroy humanity permanently. This is not about ideology, political party, or the 2016 election; this is about compassion for a very troubled man who is in the position of president with access to the nuclear codes 24/7. Nothing we debate, protect, or defend will matter if Mr. Trump's limited grasp on reality results in the loss of humanity.

This is basic common sense. The American people deserve to feel as safe as possible against all foreign and domestic threats.

I hate to see our Presidency being prostituted by Trump. He is profiting from the Presidency and building his businesses around the world. This is a misuse and abuse of our tax dollars and it is cheapening our country. He is for sale to the highest bidder and so is our White House. Also my tax dollars are paying for his constant golf trips to his resort in Florida and for his wife in New York and for his daughter in the West Wing and his son in law. And he still refuses to show us his taxes. How much more of this are we supposed to take?

On April 27, the Illinois Senate passed a bill sponsored by Sen. Daniel Biss that would require presidential candidates to disclose five years' worth of income tax returns to appear on the ballot in Illinois. “This is about transparency and good government," Biss said. "It’s something we need, and, frankly, it’s something I wish we’d had a year and a half ago." Senate Bill 982 now goes to the Illinois House for consideration. [1] Until 2016, major-party candidates for president had voluntarily released their returns since the Ford administration. Biss said voters should be able to look at information about a presidential candidate’s sources of income and investments so they can understand where potential conflicts of interests may lie. “Voters should be able to make up their own minds about a candidate based upon their own priorities and their own interests," Biss said. I was shocked at what Sheriff David Clarke had to say regarding the deaths of inmates in Milwaukee County Prison. He doesn't seem to believe that all lives matter. And when I did more research about him, read his startling opinions on crime and criminals, and then learned that he was being considered to head the Dept. of Homeland Security, I felt I had to do something to try to prevent this.

The people that need it most should not be penalized and hurt financially so the wealthiest Americans can get tax breaks. And children should not have to pay the price because that's who it hurts the most. We need to stick together and care for our children. This weekend, an official in the White House said that Sebastian Gorka—a senior adviser to Trump who has controversial ties to Hungarian Nazi-linked group Vitezi Rend—would potentially be ousted from his "counterterrorism" position, but the Trump administration hasn't made a final decision. Last week, Gorka abruptly walked off stage during a cybersecurity panel at Georgetown University after students protested his extreme Islamophobic views and ties to a Hungarian pro-Nazi political party to which he swore a lifetime oath of loyalty. And, as if his shady ties with far-right extremist groups alone aren't enough to disqualify him from serving at the heart of government, Gorka was also recently exposed as a fraud who has questionable Ph.D. credentials in Hungary. Gorka and his wife Katharine, another Trump adviser, have also spent the past two decades as part of the fringe Islamophobia network. They've worked at Steve Bannon's Breitbart and have been closely affiliated with Frank Gaffney's notorious Center for Security Policy, an extreme anti-Muslim think tank. Donald Trump claims to be an "expert" at firing people. Tell the White House to make the easy decision fire Sebastian Gorka now and remove him from government completely.

Efforts to get Members of Congress to invoke their war powers to push back against Trump's threatened escalation of the Saudi war in Yemen - and particularly the threat of attacking the Yemeni port of Hodeida, which would cut off food to millions of people - are drawing increasing attention in the media. On May 2, the Washington Post reported: "Alarm grows in Washington as Saudi coalition attack on Yemen port appears imminent." The article noted that Reps. Mark Pocan [D-WI] and Justin Amash [R-MI] had threatened to introduce legislation that would seek to "prohibit U.S. involvement in any such assault." [1] On May 8, James Carden reported: "Congress Is Drawing a ‘Red Line’ Over Trump’s Support for the Saudi War on Yemen." Rep. Pocan told Carden: "In moments like this, it’s essential that Congress assert its constitutional authority to oversee, debate, and declare war before the US becomes involved in a catastrophic military action overseas." Citing the horrific nature of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Pocan said he could "hardly think of anything worse than the US military participating alongside the Saudi military in destroying the lifeline to food for 7 million people already on the brink of starvation." [2] Carden also reported: several staffers are in the process of "preparing language with legislative counsel to use the War Powers Act of 1973 in order to introduce a privileged resolution to withdraw US forces from the Saudi-led war in Yemen, with Hodeida as a Congressional 'red line.'" On May 9, John Nichols reported: "There Is Growing Bipartisan Opposition to Trump’s Unauthorized Military Actions." Nichols noted: "Not all Republicans are willing to accept the Trump’s administration’s shredding of the Constitution… Congressman Justin Amash, R-Michigan, has joined Congressman Mark Pocan, D-Wisconsin, in leading a congressional effort to warn the administration that it must consult Congress before lending US support to what members describe as 'a potentially catastrophic' military action by Saudi Arabia in Yemen." Nichols also reported the Members' threat: “Should the administration remain unresponsive to our repeated inquiries into the nature of US engagement in a potentially catastrophic Saudi attack on Hodeida, we will pursue legislation to explicitly prohibit US involvement in any such an assault.” Many thought it a foregone conclusion that the Trump Administration would green-light a Saudi-UAE attack on the Yemeni port of Hodeida. But that assault still hasn't happened. Members of Congress can take this threatened attack "off the table" by asserting their war powers.
