• Tell Mississippi Legislators to Oppose SB 2681
SB 2681, "Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act," an Arizona-style law was recently approved 48-0 by the Mississippi Senate. Like similar bills in Kansas and Arizona, this bill would write segregation and discrimination into our laws. It could give doctors, nurses, and other trusted professionals a license to discriminate against any LGBTQ people and any other person based on religious grounds. SB 2681, Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act, could allow any person or business in our state to challenge a “burden” on religion. This means that someone could use their religious beliefs to challenge virtually any law, including criminal and other laws that protect our health and safety. SB 2681, passed the state Senate with 48 yes-votes, zero no-votes, and will now go up for a vote in the House. If passed, it would go into effect July 1, 2014. But we have a chance to stop this terrible bill – the Mississippi House has not yet voted on the bill and we need your help to prevent them from passing this law! SIGN this petition and tell Mississippi legislators to STOP this license to discriminate!

  • Rhode Island Needs Early Voting Law
As a long-time voter in RI I have often spent hours standing in lines at polling places. Now a retiree, it's not that hard on me but for working people who must take time off a job or spend a lot of time at night, this bill would prompt many more to vote. It's time for our state to join the increasing number of states allowing early voting.

  • Help End Childhood Hunger!
Right now, the childhood hunger problem in America is inexcusably big – affecting more than 1 in 5 children. We know that adequate food and good nutrition, particularly in a young child’s life, has a very important impact on a child’s capacity for future learning and on their lifelong economic productivity. But our leaders are not giving this problem the attention it warrants. In the name of deficit reduction, members of Congress are considering deep spending cuts to anti-hunger programs as part of this fall and winter’s budget debate. (In reality, cutting funding for programs like SNAP that alleviate hunger and poverty for children won’t make much of a dent in reducing our deficit: right now children receive less than 8% of federal funding. ) That debate provides and important opportunity for us to demonstrate public support for our vision of a country where everyone gets a fair shot in life. Hunger in America is big and is getting worse as income inequality becomes more extreme. This is a trend that we need to reverse now. Sign this petition to urge our state legislators to work together to end childhood hunger in Arizona. Thanks for your help!

  • Ban "gay conversion therapy" in Washington!
The state house voted 94-4 to ban controversial "pray away the gay" practices for minors in Washington. The Senate must pass the bill by Friday to become law this year but the conservative committee chair is refusing to allow a vote.

  • Governor Nixon: Support emergency, supplemental Utilicare Fund appropriation
We are currently experiencing one of the coldest winters in the past three decades – a factor that is increasing customer bills substantially. Meanwhile, the amount of available LIHEAP funding has actually declined for some community action agencies while increasing only very modestly for others. In addition, the state's recent decision to reallocate nearly $15 million in LIHEAP funds to the relatively small group of LIHEAP eligible customers served by propane, while understandable, has left even less funding available for the far larger number of eligible, low-income customers who reside in the urban and suburban areas of the state.

  • seperation of church and state
I'm starting this petition because since 1956 the gop have been infiltrated by the church and in that time have done nothing but use the Bible to pass legislation that is damaging to the nation such as laws that allow people to be discriminated against, spending cuts that only hurt the poor.Because of the breech of the separation of church and state there are no fewer than seven (7) states I personally can't hold office because I'm an atheist. That is not equality and that is not what the founding fathers wanted.

  • Federal Arbitration Act
I am a labor attorney representing workers nationwide and I am seeing the tragic effects of this law as workers are denied access to the courts to challenge discrimination, harassment, wage theft. Scalia and Thomas allowed the Federal Arbitration Act in to the work place and the only way to undue their mischief is by legislation repealing the Federal Arbitration Act.

  • Missouri should legalize marijuana
It's not fair to have liquor legal when it is just as worse as marijuana and I believe we should be fair to all people and what they want. Marijuana could also help our economy so much more than we know!

  • No Stealth PA Privatization
The People of Pennsylvania have invested our tax dollars in building our roads, bridges, parking garages, parking meters, and other infrastructure. Now Gov. Corbett is on track to give the bridges we built to private contractors for 4 to 5 decades. It's true that Pennsylvania's bridges are in sad shape. But there are other, better ways to repair and rebuild our bridges. States that have privatized their infrastructure have found that these deals are bad for the people. We need to stop these bad deals now.

  • Truth in political advertising
I'm tired of the outrageous lies that have passed for ads over the years. EVERYONE is affected by this. Very few voters are informed enough to know when they're being lied to.
