House: Back @DanielBiss' SB982. Make @POTUS Candidates Disclose Tax ReturnsOn April 27, the Illinois Senate passed a bill sponsored by Sen. Daniel Biss that would require presidential candidates to disclose five years' worth of income tax returns to appear on the ballot in Illinois. “This is about transparency and good government," Biss said. "It’s something we need, and, frankly, it’s something I wish we’d had a year and a half ago." Senate Bill 982 now goes to the Illinois House for consideration. [1] Until 2016, major-party candidates for president had voluntarily released their returns since the Ford administration. Biss said voters should be able to look at information about a presidential candidate’s sources of income and investments so they can understand where potential conflicts of interests may lie. “Voters should be able to make up their own minds about a candidate based upon their own priorities and their own interests," Biss said. [2] Urge your Representative in the Illinois House to support SB 982 by signing our petition. Obama: Do not follow the Clintons' Path, Reject Wall Street Speaker FeesThe Obamas can, and judging by their recent book deals will, earn lots of money. They need not do it by accepting speaker fees from Wall Street firms. Obama should cancel his September speech and not accept the $400,000 fee from Cantor Fitzgerald.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stefan Johnson

Immigrant vettingWe are all affected by a thinly veiled attempt to institute a Muslim ban; it is unconstitutional, offensive, and a sure way to increase animosity toward and disdain for our country.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cynthia Salten

Stop Sheriff David Clark of Milwaukee.I was shocked at what Sheriff David Clarke had to say regarding the deaths of inmates in Milwaukee County Prison. He doesn't seem to believe that all lives matter. And when I did more research about him, read his startling opinions on crime and criminals, and then learned that he was being considered to head the Dept. of Homeland Security, I felt I had to do something to try to prevent this.325 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Margaret Capozzolo

Stop the deportation of Luis Barrios, father of four, for a broken taillight**UPDATE: Thanks to the power of people like you, Luis Barrios got news that ICE had agreed to put his deportation on hold for 2 years as of May 12th. VICTORY!!** Here's the petition~ Luis Barrios, 52, is a homeowner who lives in Derby, Connecticut, with his four children. He was pulled over for having a broken tail light in 2011, which brought him in contact with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Luis has never been arrested and has no criminal record. Luis has held a steady job. Luis has a family. Luis should not be deported. Luis was told to self deport by May 4th, or he would be taken into custody. Largely due to the groundswell of support from activists, petitioners, and the 3 members of Congress, ICE granted a 30 day stay to Luis Barrios on May 3rd - hours before he was to board a plane. Luis now faces self-deportation on June 3rd. According to Luis's daughter, her father is in danger in his country of origin, Guatemala, from which he fled more than 25 years ago. Luis's brother was murdered in Guatemala, and Luis fears what will happen if he is forced to return. His attorney says that he did seek asylum in the '90s, but an address mix-up led him to miss a court date, and his request was removed. Her hope is that the Department of Homeland Security will stop the deportation order and reconsider Luis’s case for asylum. Representative Rosa DeLauro, who represents the district where Luis and his family live, wrote a letter of support for Luis. Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal wrote a joint letter and have made public statements in support of Luis. Now it's up to us. Stand with Luis and his family and stop this unjust deportation.36,093 of 40,000 SignaturesCreated by Charla Nich

Tell the New Hampshire General Court: Stop the Northern Pass!Hydro-Québec, Canada’s mega power company, wants to build the “Northern Pass” – 1,100 power towers across 180 miles of New Hampshire’s forest and farmland. These gigantic towers would cut through the heart of the White Mountain National Forest and on to power New England.173 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Steve Marchand for Governor

Join 9 Senators to Tell Saudi Arabia: "Hodeida Must Be Spared"!On Thursday April 27, a bipartisan group of nine U.S. Senators wrote to the ambassador of Saudi Arabia demanding that Saudi Arabia spare the Yemeni port city of Hodeida from military assault to avoid pushing Yemen into famine. The nine Senators were: Todd Young (R-IN), Chris Murphy (D-CT), John Boozman (R-AR), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Christopher Coons (D-DL) and Ed Markey (D-MA). The Senators made five demands to help “Prevent Millions of Innocent Yemenis From Starving to Death": - Lend full support to Secretary Mattis’ call for a political settlement in Yemen. - Refrain from bombing the port of Hodeida and call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire around the port. - Reform the inspection regime at the port of Hodeida to eliminate unnecessary delays in the delivery of severely needed humanitarian and commercial supplies. - Facilitate the delivery of cranes to the port of Hodeida to increase humanitarian aid and commercial capacity. - Redouble efforts to ensure airstrikes do not hit key economic facilities and civilian infrastructure. [1] Urge your representatives to join the nine Senators in telling Saudi Arabia "Hodeida must be spared" by signing our petition. SAVE OUR SHORELINETurning a blind eye to the planned Federal destruction of wetlands, historic sites, homes, and communities in spite of the fact that there have been no environmental impact studies or public input is not acceptable. The case in point is the Branford to Guilford Quad track expansion proposed by the Federal Railroad Administration. The FRA’s Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) has no environmental studies specific to the new track planned between Branford and Guilford. Equally outrageous is the fact that the FRA failed to inform the “at risk” communities of their intentions. In addition, there is no benefit to the people of New Haven, Branford, or Guilford (or anyone else in Connecticut for that matter). In the entire thousand plus page report, only twenty-nine words were devoted to this 150 to 300 foot wide eight mile long easement. None of those words referenced an environmental study specific to the new track proposed. Furthermore, the exact location of the new track was not provided. This is just another example of a government “Bridge to Nowhere.” This portion needs to be removed from the FRA’s plans.475 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Jon Wilson
