The Trump administration bombed Iran's nuclear sites on June 21, choosing military action over diplomacy, violence and war over peace and true security. We need your help urgently to push your members of Congress to demand a better approach to the conflict with Iran. The painful truth is Iran had joined a binding, verified accord to dramatically limit its nuclear enrichment program, but President Trump pulled the United States out of that agreement back in 2018. More recently, he started talks with Iran about a new agreement, but these bombings undermine that effort. Military intervention is unlikely to permanently stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon should it choose to do so, while sharply weakening any trust between the two countries and our best tools for nonproliferation and disarmament. Donald J. Trump does not deserve a Nobel Prize because of the havoc he is creating internationally as well as at home.  He is damaging international relations and the standing of the United States through his actions regarding tariffs, his bullying of our neighbors and allies, as well as his administration’s threatening of Ukraine.  His mass deportations of immigrants who are legally pursuing legal status in uncalled for in a democratic country.

Zohran Mamdani, a bold, progressive candidate with compelling ideas to make the economy work for all New Yorkers, to focus on affordability, and to break the stranglehold of corporations and billionaires, just scored a surprisingly commanding victory in New York City's Democratic primary for mayor. To do so, he had to defeat Andrew Cuomo, the disgraced former governor. Despite Cuomo's history of sexual predation, abuse of power, corruption, and triangulation with Republicans against progressive policies, many Establishment Democratic leaders endorsed his campaign. Now that Cuomo has conceded to Mamdani—as have other candidates, including progressive champion Brad Lander—it's time for all Democratic leaders to come together and endorse Mamdani. He still faces an election in November against the current mayor, Eric Adams, who maintains name recognition despite his corruption and ties to President Trump, as well as a Republican candidate. And Cuomo is still considering a sore-loser strategy of an independent run. Democratic leaders' endorsing Mamdani now will help keep Cuomo out of the race. It will also send a clear signal locally and nationally: The Democrats are ready to embrace a new generation and vision of leadership when a younger candidate runs an invigorating and inspiring campaign. And the Democratic Party has much to learn from Mamdani’s campaign. He built a broad movement across backgrounds and activated young, infrequent, and working-class voters—communities that the party desperately needs to court to be able to assemble a winning coalition.  Democrats playing the waiting game may hurt Mamdani—but moreover, they will hurt the Democratic Party. Democrats need to embrace a new generation and new energy—and, in this moment, they have an opportunity to do so ... as well as an imperative to set Mamdani up for victory. The next mayor of New York will be a bulwark against the Trump administration, and Mamdani has built a movement ready for that fight—now, Establishment Democrats need to be on board.

Donald Trump’s escalation of immigration sweeps across California has led to hundreds of arrests—ripping families apart, disappearing people from the street, and sowing chaos.  Immigration raids across California are sparking fear among families, small business owners, and entire communities. Food-truck vendors are staying home, students are missing school, and families are missing critical health care appointments.  New York City and Chicago have vibrant immigrant communities that are also part of baseball’s diverse and rich history. These cities are also being targeted by Trump’s inhumane mass deportation raids. If we let our public lands get sold to private interests, we will lose access to places we have long taken for granted. Campsites will be gone. Trails will be impacted. Water and air quality will likely be undermined. Animals will die. Communities that rely on nature-related tourism will take a grave economic hit. Our international tourism, and therefore our economy, will severely decline. Most importantly though, one of the things that makes this nation so special -our tremendously vast and pristine wilderness- will be irreversibly diminished and harmed. We cannot let this happen. The potential for the bombings to resume is high, and we can’t risk the chance that Trump orders or supports further military action. Congress must immediately convene to pass war powers resolutions that block Trump from further escalation and demand diplomacy. The good news? Two urgently needed war powers resolutions — including bipartisan legislation in the House — have already been introduced. In the words of former Board Chair Dr. Alvin Thornton, writing in 2021 op-ed: “Our community, its children, and the School System deserve a Board that governs collegially, professionally, ethically, transparently, and in a student-centered manner. Anything less is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.” “The politicization of the Board of Education is now on steroids and out of control with little discernible connection to the best interest of our children. It must end.” That warning has become reality. A rushed appointment, backroom coordination with an officer-elect, and exclusion of community voice call for urgent State intervention to restore integrity and protect the 133,000 students of Prince George’s County Public Schools. As such, we respectfully assert that the Board’s action is arbitrary, unreasonable, and contrary to law, and approval of the appointment under these circumstances would undermine public confidence in the State’s educational oversight framework. We humbly petition Dr. Carey M. Wright, State Superintendent of Schools: • Decline to approve the appointment of Dr. Joseph until the entire search process outlined in § 4-201.1 is completed in good faith and compliance with applicable regulations. • That the Board is barred from terminating the employment of any senior staff members during the interim period. • Provide oversight and guidance to the County Board to ensure that future selections are conducted with transparency, fairness, and legal integrity. • Initiate a formal investigation into the legality and procedural integrity of the Board of Education's recent decisions.
