Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is hiding information, refusing to release correspondence and documents around the decision to use contaminated water in Flint. Elected officials have a duty to protect the public, not harm us. In Flint, they failed miserably. Every American, especially the children who were poisoned, deserves the truth of exactly how this happened. And because Michigan is one of just two states with a blanket exemption for the governor’s office to the Freedom of Information Act, we’ll only learn what really happened in Flint if we stand together and demand it. Bipartisan legislation has been introduced in Congress to repeal provisions of the recently passed visa waiver program reform bill that categorically barred European citizens from the program who happen to be dual nationals of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Sudan. Different countries have different laws about nationality, which means, for example, that some European citizens are "nationals" of Iran if their father happened to be Iranian, even if they never set foot in Iran in their entire lives. [1] Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI), John Conyers (D-MI), Thomas Massie (R-KY), and Debbie Dingell (D-MI) have introduced H.R. 4380, Equal Protection in Travel Act of 2016. [2] Similar legislation is also being introduced by Senators Jeff Flake (D-AZ) and Dick Durbin (D-IL). [3] The Obama Administration supports the legislation. [4] Because the visa waiver program is reciprocal with Europe, passage of this legislation will protect US citizens who are dual nationals from discrimination when they travel to Europe. The current chair of the Democratic Party is not only ignoring the people who have been long-time members of the party, but she is also failing to even discuss her intentions with her own co-chairs. The rank and file of the Democratic Party may well fail to show up to vote which could result in the next presidential election going to the GOP. Don't wait and see if that happens. A lot of the residents from the District of Columbia are tired of being treated as second-class citizens. Congress has the power to redefine the district's borders and shrink its size as they did before in 1846. This action will give the 646,000 residents of the State of New Columbia the full rights of citizenship that they have been denied for over two centuries.

Ted Cruz has clearly violated the FEC's disclosure rules, and he should be investigated, fined, and held accountable. The New York Times reports that Ted Cruz failed to disclose to the Federal Election Commission that Goldman Sachs loaned him hundreds of thousands of dollars to finance his 2012 campaign for the U.S. Senate. The Times wrote: “such a disclosure might have conveyed the wrong impression for his candidacy,” given that he was “campaigning as a populist firebrand who criticized Wall Street bailouts.” But regardless of why he did it, Cruz needs to be held accountable. And with millions of dollars in special interest money lined up on both sides of the upcoming election, the FEC needs to send a message NOW to potential rulebreakers. That's why it's so important that they conduct a full investigation into Ted Cruz's failed disclosure and hold him accountable for violating campaign finance rules.
