Six months ago Pastor Max Villatoro, a beloved father, husband, pastor, and Iowa City community member was deported to Honduras despite over 40,000 petitions asking immigration officials to stop his deportation. For six months, the Villatoro family has been forced to live thousands of miles apart, separated by our nation’s immoral and unjust immigration system. We cannot allow this tragic situation to go on. We must continue to tell Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson that six months is too long -- it’s time to bring Pastor Max home! Because of our shameful immigration system, Max’s children have been left without a father. Gloria, his wife, has been left to support her family and raise her children by herself. And the community as a whole has been left to deal with the loss of a true leader. Max should never have been deported away from his family and community. He wasn’t given a chance to say goodbye to his wife and four U.S. citizen kids – Anthony, Edna, Angela, and Aileen. Max is the pastor of the Iglesia Menonita Torre Fuerte (First Mennonite Church) in Iowa City. He has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years. Max was originally targeted for deportation because of an immigration identification related charge from 1999. His detention and deportation is absolutely devastating to his family, his church and the community where he has been a leader for years. Pastor Max is a model of what it means to be a servant leader in his community. He has worked for years to strengthen Iowa City and to care for his neighbors. Each day he demonstrates incredible compassion, faith and character. In February, President Obama said that ICE officials would be held accountable for deporting individuals who qualify for relief. As a pastor, community leader and father of U.S. citizen children, Max clearly presents no public safety or security threat and therefore should qualify for relief through the President’s recent immigration executive order. And, even though a federal judge has temporarily delayed some of the President’s immigration actions, ICE guidelines state that immigrants like Max should not be a deportation priority. Max should not have been deported before he had a chance to qualify for relief.

Donald Trump is a racist who has made countless inhumane and racial remarks about minorities, treating them as if they are subhuman and as though he has no compassion for anyone who isn't of his own demographic. If Donald Trump is in office, he will make many enemies for us in the United States, ruining our safety and possibly our freedom as a nation. This man is narcissistic and senile and unless he plans to seek help and get medicated, he shouldn't be making it this far in the race to be president and he CANNOT BE IN THIS COUNTRY. KICK HIM OUT.

As a long-time customer of TD Ameritrade, I was dismayed to learn that TD Bank and TD Securities has financed Smith & Wesson, gun manufacturers, whose firearms were used in the San Bernardino massacre. I join Public Advocate of the City of New York Letitia James, who cites $280 million in loans TD Bank has facilitated for Smith & Wesson in calling for the dismantling of this support. Gun violence is a horrifying and all-too-frequent reality; in a country that now has more guns than people, as a Congressional Research Report has found, banking customers, clients, and shareholders must stand against the financial support gun manufacturers receive. TD Bank and TD Securities: we call on you to back the corporate responsibility you promote with action, and relinquish support for firearms manufacturers.

Last Wednesday, ExxonMobile received a subpoena demanding financial records, emails and other internal documents. The New York Times reports that the attorney general launched the investigation alleging that as far back as 1977, the corporation was conducting research on the catastrophic effects of carbon emissions on global temperatures yet chose to repeatedly lie to investors. Through a network of outside organizations, ExxonMobile has worked for decades to create uncertainty about climate change, while knowing full well the consequences we would all have to face. This is a pivotal moment in our struggle- a chance to end the lies once and for all, and start working together for a sustainable future.

Fathers' rights are integral in today's society, and a vital part of any child's development. Recently in a dependency hearing for contempt my attorney charged the state with fraud. I am going on 2 years without being able to see my daughter. This has gone on completely ignored by the local 18th judicial circuit here in Brevard County, Florida. I am hoping to proceed with all of my documented procedural history and file a civil claim that perhaps will lead to criminal charges which will pave the way for a possible bill sponsorship by senator or congressman (Hera's Law ). I don't get into the particulars of my case because a minor is involved, but i hope that one day soon my daughter's mother, realizing the bias that has been placed in her favor, will join me in this civil claim, providing her testimony as a deposition of facts that will cement this claim against the state and DCF for their criminal act at the expense of my daughter's relationship with me as her father.
