Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act H.R. 3717When my daughter Sophie, who struggles with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder turned 18, I lost the right to talk with her doctors and help her make treatment decisions. I chronicle my story in "Surrounded By Madness: A Memoir of Mental Illness and Family Secrets." Sophie spiraled out of control, is addicted to meth, and lives on the streets, when she's not in jail. Our mental health system is in shambles. H.R. 3717 would enable parents to help when their adult child is in crisis, treat patients in the least restrictive environment, and make assisted outpatient treatment programs an alternative to jails and prisons.272 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Rachel Pruchno

Attorney General Holder, conduct a federal investigation of the Michael Brown murder case. This petition is being started because Chief Jackson of the Ferguson Police department has shown that he will do anything to protect police officer Darren Wilson. We do not trust District Attorney Robert McCullough or the local authorities of Ferguson, Missouri and St. Louis County, to give a fair, unbiased investigation. We are gravely concerned that history will repeat itself, with the same unfortunate results of the George Zimmerman murder trial of Trayvon Martin. Attorney General Holder, DO NOT LET US DOWN!65 of 100 SignaturesCreated by J. Swift

Don't Shoot Rec ActIn Oakland, California, the NAACP reported that out of 45 officer-involved shootings in the city between 2004 and 2008, 37 of those shot were black. None were white. One-third of the shootings resulted in fatalities. Although weapons were not found in 40 percent of cases, the NAACP found, no officers were charged. In 2007, ColorLines and the Chicago Reporter investigated fatal police shootings in 10 major cities, and found that there were a disproportionately high number of African Americans among police shooting victims in every one, particularly in New York, San Diego, and Las Vegas. The New York City Police Department has reported similar trends in its firearms discharge report, which shows that more black people have been shot by NYPD officers between 2000 and 2011 than have Hispanics or whites. There's been dozens of shootings since then , where's the Justice from the Police who are paid to protect and serve? It's time to put an end to the murdering of unarmed citizens. If a Cop has the right to use deadly force; we the public deserve to know why. Why not get the story direct from the officer. "Before you Shoot Rec." Sign this petion if you support this Act. It keeps the police and the public safe. It's time to put an end to unjustifiable homocide ! This petition for the "Don't Shoot Act" goes as followed: "Don't Shoot Rec Act" Body cams for police to wear in every state; To record every lawful arrest and interaction with the community /Create a website open to the public /every arrest made by an officer will be logged in the database to be used as a silent witness for the people and the police. "Don't Shoot Rec Act" The Law that gives mandatory up to 25yrs in prison/ lost of gun/shield and fined $50,000 Applies to any police officer/law enforcement/Charged and found guilty of the murder of an unarmed citizen. We are asking the President directly to make this a law! Thank you for your signature and, keep spreading the word!292 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Jamaine Farmer

Members for a Koch-free Costco!Billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch have used their wealth to fund numerous far-right wing advocacy and policy groups, conservative and Tea Party think tanks, and Republican and libertarian political action foundations. These organizations are highly offensive to many in the Costco membership. We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Costco Corp. discontinue carrying and distributing all Georgia-Pacific products.88 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jane Buder Shapiro

Mary-Ann's Law: Mandatory Testing1 year ago, almost to the day, we lost someone very dear to us, because a driver ran a red light and plowed his truck into the car she and her sister were riding in. Mary-Ann died at the scene, but the officers did not do alcohol/drug testing. A six pack of beer, and marijuana were later found in his car, but by then it was the next day, and too late for testing. Please help to get these types of drivers off of our roads and make testing mandatory for Vehicular Homicide.229 of 300 SignaturesCreated by LEONARD U HOPKINS

Let Juan Carlos StayWe are desperate - trying any and all means available to keep this young man with his family and friends. Juan Carlos is my friend - I know him personally. I am asking that all of you sign this petition, forward i to all of your friends and also to continue to push for real reform in immigration. Carlos is a good man - or you know he wouldn't be in my life. As a young teenager when he realized he was undocumented and the ramifications of that he got a little rebellious and did some stupid things - no gangs, no drugs, just typical teenage rebellion. However he did get pulled over for driving w/o a license and when the officer asked if he had been drinking, Carlos, being the honest person he is, said he had one beer. That is sufficient to disqualify him from the Dream Act. Please support my friend.140 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Juan Quintero

Save Our TreesCaltrans has begun removing the trees along the 101 right of way, down Kansas St., and it has increased the noise significantly. The trees are the only protection this side of Potrero Hill has from the freeway sites/sounds/dirt/grime/etc. Caltrans should stop removing trees and replace the ones we've lost with some sort of sound/sight barrier.254 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Emily Holmes

How can we protect the Arctic region?"The Arctic is an amazing place, home to whales, polar bears, and other amazing creatures. Climate change is affecting all of us, but the Arctic region will feel the effects first, and is the canary of our planet. We need to act now to protect it for future generations."52 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jerry Trust

MYELOFIBROSIS & MEDICAREI was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis one year ago and have been receiving treatment at MDAnderson, where I am participating in a research study . This is a rare blood disorder and the only cure is a stem cell transplant. When I was denied insurance coverage by Medicare, I realized that they factor in your age, and "old people" are going to die anyway, so why allow treatment when this individual already lived their life. Sorry but I'm 66 years old, and I have a lot of life left in me. If I need the transplant, I want the transplant. I am doing my part participating in this research study and I should at least be given the option of a life saving treatment.1,273 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Amy Gullia-DeGregorio

Our loved ones deserve better careMost seniors living in nursing homes are usually in a fragile condition. Families are relying on those facilities to provide the best care for their loved ones as possible. In most of those facilities, there is not a RN on duty all of the time. Some only have a RN on duty during the day. These residents need specialized care but are left to rely on a Certified Nursing Assistant, who have limited training. If a CNA is going to be left to care for these patients, they need to have more critical care training, and be required to take a test to determine if that type of work is a good fit for them. There needs to be at least 1 RN, preferably 2, on duty in nursing homes and critical care facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.31 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hazel
