• Our state needs a public option
We can't force private insurers to put people over profit, but we can make them compete with a public option that does. A public option would provide better care for less money, because policyholders wouldn't have to subsidize shareholder profits, big CEO bonuses, or expensive marketing campaigns.

  • Our state needs a public option
Private insurers will always put profit and executive compensation above the well being of their their customers. With Wall Street downgrading any insurance company that does otherwise, we'll never be able to overcome that attitude, but we can make insurance companies compete with a public option that takes a very different, much more customer-centered approach. Such a true public option would provide better care for less money, because policyholders wouldn't have to subsidize shareholder profits, big CEO bonuses, or expensive marketing campaigns. Let's create that public option, the sooner the better!

  • Convict Michael Dunn
To many young black men are being murdered and their perpetrators are walking away. This is Trayvon Martin all over again! Only afterward did the world see that Zimmerman should have been convicted. Don't let another child murderer walk away. Michael Dunn provoked the incident by getting out of his car and approaching the teens. His court testimony has been inconsistent, he never called 911 instead he drove 2 hours away. While the teenager Jordan Davis lay dying from 3 bullet wounds including one in his back. While sitting in his Dodge Durango.

  • Removal of Superintendent and President of the Central Islip School District
This is my second child that has been hit by a teacher in Central Islip School, the teachers are not made accountable for their verbal abuse or physical abuse and it has to stop. Our Children's Education and Safety should be our top priority. We need to hire and Elect officials that want to do their jobs. Give our children a quality education and safe environment.

  • No Fracking in the George Washington National Forest!
The toxic results of using hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas have led to the widespread contamination of drinking water, cattle being quarantined in Pennsylvania, earthquakes in Arkansas, and dangerous explosions in states across the country, among other issues. In order to protect our essential water resources, we need a national ban on fracking.

  • Protect North Carolina from toxic coal ash spills
On Sunday February 16, a Duke Energy-owned pipe underneath an unlined coal ash dump in Eden, North Carolina shattered, releasing 82,000 tons of highly toxic coal ash into the Dan River, a source of drinking water, fishing and recreation. And what's worse? This disaster wasn't reported by Duke until Monday night, more than 26 hours after they learned that the pipe had burst. Duke Energy has repeatedly claimed its coal ash dump sites are safe, but they were wrong. Let’s prevent this disaster from ever happening again. Send a message to Duke CEO Lynn Good urging her to store toxic coal ash in safer dry, lined landfills away from our water sources.

  • Joe Heck: No Mount Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan was a disaster for Nevada. In 1980, 19,000 were without work. Just three years later, 59,000 were unemployed. In the same period, median household income dropped by $1,200 nationally. This bill does nothing to bring good jobs back or repair the aging infrastructure. It's time to stop pandering to special interests and start working on solutions. Working people in Nevada are still dealing with the consequences of deregulation and trickle down economics. Instead of pandering, he should be working to undo the damage. Only 14 presidents have had mountains named after them. This is about carving a political ideology into the landscape. It's just not appropriate. Joe Heck needs to stop taking his orders from Grover Norquist and start listening to his constituents.

  • Demand an explanation from the Washington State Senate
In 2006, I was shot in the abdomen in my workplace by a deeply troubled young man. And I was lucky to have survived -- one of my coworkers did not. Since that fateful day, I have fought through twenty surgeries, a coma, and months and months of PTSD therapy. I don't know if you had the chance to follow the hearing about gun safety in Olympia -- but I went to testify in favor of I-594. Brian Judy, a gun lobbyist, noted that I-594 wouldn't have stopped Newtown's Adam Lanza from taking his mother's gun and then turning it on her. He even joked, "I think that [one] was the 'murder your mom' loophole." Both he and state Senator Steve O'Ban chuckled. Would you joke about someone murdering their mother and then killing twenty children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary? Then there was Senator Roach, who has been told to seek counseling for threatening her employees and even brandishing a handgun at one. She did everything possible to degrade the testimony of myself and other survivors, and to question our motives. Why shouldn't I want legislation that would prevent the kind of everyday gun violence that threatens our communities, even if I-594 would not have stopped the gunman who shot me? I know at a personal and profound level the damage that gun violence does -- and Republicans in the state Senate, as well as lobbyist Brian Judy, would prefer I stay silent. I've already delivered one round of signatures to the State Senate to demand an explanation for this outrageous and offensive behavior. And I'd like to deliver more. • Cut military spending and re-invest in America's Infrastructure
Our elected officials have neglected our infrastructure far to long. Continuing to do nothing will lead to a catastrophic economic failure in the near future. We spend more on our military than the next five biggest military nations combined. We can maintain our military superiority and still cut spending, all we need is leaders to recognize that this "corporate welfare" needs to end.

No one deserves the fatal and tragic consequences of random gun violence.
