The preservation of American Democracy demands the ‘consent of the governed,’ and voting is the method by which Americans give that consent. Any nation ruled by unaccountable officials who choose their constituents cannot, and likely will not, maintain the freedoms promised by a nation where the people choose their representation.

Over the years, your vote has often elected the candidates of your choice. It has made you feel that said candidates had an obligation to you to live up their campaign promises..... and that you have the right to hold them responsible if they don't. It made you feel powerful and important.... it is the power of" Choice". It lets you know that as long as you have a "Vote" you have a "Voice". Now more than ever that vote allows us to keep good people in office and remove those that we deem unworthy. It is one of the things that separates us from a "Dictatorship". Now what if you lost your power to "vote"? What if you lost your power to choose the candidate of your "choice"? What if you lost the power to choose where you will live, how your children will be educated, what religion you practice..........and even who you can marry? Well, if the "Voting Rights Amendment Act" of 2014(VRA) is not passed then some people may lose their vote, their freedom of "Choice".

A Republican candidate in Florida is invoking the words of Jesus to argue that President Obama should be hanged for treason. Joshua Black, a candidate for state representative, voiced his agreement that "it's time to arrest and hang him high," then went on to state, "This would be exactly what the President has done to others, and, as Jesus said, 'the measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you again.'" Black's rhetoric is unusually outrageous, but it's just the latest example in a pattern of conservative Republicans exploiting Christianity to advance a hateful agenda and vilify President Obama. A few Republicans in Florida have begun to criticize Joshua Black's comments, but if the Republican Party is serious about putting an end to this kind of offensive rhetoric, they need to publicly denounce Black's candidacy and assure voters that he won't receive any support from the party.

everybody needs to vote wtihout restrictions

In the City of Vernon, the business community serves as the majority of the tax base in this industrial town. However, it is this community that has no voting power in this city and has recently been charged with a robust increase in taxes at an alarming rate of 500%. As responsible, reasonable tax payers and creator of jobs, such an unjust increase on taxes in a course of 10 years is harmful to the health of our community. We petition, as business owners of Vernon, to reverse Measure K in the city of Vernon.

Don't understand why the supreme court would weaken the voting rights act

I have been watching the news in the states where the right to vote has been made difficult for certain groups of citizens. In this democracy it is imperative that we protect that right for all citizens! Rep. Miller needs to add her support for the Voting Rights Act

There has to be a turn in this great tide of voter restrictions which manipulate the vote.
