My son and daughter have been startled in their sleep because of gunshots in our neighborhood. Countless other children have been shot and killed. All our children deserve a safe place to learn, play and call home. The city of Chicago is in need of help, bring in the National Guard to secure our war-zone streets.

Girls get a dance and boys get to go to a baseball game. A girl-only group gets home-ec, while a boys-only group goes to the science museum. That could become the reality soon for students in Rhode Island. A bill that would allow schools to separate girls and boys from the extracurricular activities of their choice just passed in the Rhode Island legislature. It’s sitting on the Governor’s desk where he has just a few days to veto or it will become law, but there’s still time to stop it if we act now. S-12 would undermine the strong anti-discrimination laws that have protected Rhode Island children for decades by allowing public schools to limit extracurricular activity to students of one sex only. These discriminatory policies reinforce harmful sex stereotypes and fail to provide girls and boys with equal access to fair education, a principle protected by Title IX. Governor Chafee could put an end to this unfair law with a stroke of his pen. And he’s more likely to act if he knows we’re watching. It’s his duty as Governor to protect the right of all children—regardless of sex—to have equal opportunities in education by vetoing S-12 today.

Rolling Stone thought it was cute to put Boston Marathon Bomber Dzokhar Tsarnaev on the cover of their magazine like he's some sort of rock star. The real rock stars are the survivors, the first responders, the officers who helped in Watertown and those who were murdered by these cowards. Let's show Rolling Stone that this kind of insensitive sensationalist journalism will not be tolerated by banning their magazine from news stands...not just for a month, but indefinitely!

The verdict in the George Zimmerman trial for killing Trayvon Martin an innocent Black teenager, is an outrage! These stand your ground laws allow for the George Zimmerman's of the world to profile and Kill our children and get away with it. IT MUST STOP! We must demand a change in these laws in all the states that have them, starting with Florida. Boycott Florida until these changes are made!

Florida's "stand your ground" law set the stage for the miscarriage of justice we just witnessed in the George Zimmerman case, undermining justice in the wake of Trayvon Martin's death. Unfortunately, unless we eradicate "stand your ground" and other "shoot first" laws, which exist in more than 30 states, we will have more Trayvon's and more senseless killings. Please join us in calling on our elected officials to take leadership in dismantling these laws.

The LA Times, NYTimes, NPR and other media report that 158 women have undergone sterilization in California prisons without the required approval of the state medical committee between 2005 and 2010. The sterilizations were not medically necessary and the victims report that they were coerced into the procedure. We demand answers -- the idea of forced sterilizations bring up the worst of eugenics and of 1939 Germany, not 2013 California. Who was responsible for these sterilizations? Why were they performed when not medically necessary? Why was one of the women's ovaries removed when she specifically told her doctor she intended to have children in the future? Involuntarily removing a woman’s ovaries or pressuring her into a sterilization while incarcerated is absolutely unacceptable. Demand Gov. Brown immediately launch an investigation to determine who is responsible and to ensure this never happens again.

I am a huge proponent of our Freedom of Speech rights - but I am so not down with Rolling Stone magazine putting the picture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover - what do you think?

BAD LAWS MAKE FOR BAD VERDICTS. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT ZIMMERMAN TRIAL, WHERE THE JUDGE USED SYG IN HER INSTRUCTIONS TO THE JURORS, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS LAW MUST BE REPEALED.

We as Nevadans don't agree with any law that give anybody the right to kill based off of unjustified paranoia and we would like to be a progressive state that moves forward in the spirit of humanity. Please join the fight!
