• Pass the New York Women’s Equality Agenda
In January 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his 10-point Women’s Equality Agenda, which addresses a wide array of barriers facing women. If passed, this desperately needed legislation will: 1. Ensure equal pay for equal work. 2. Stop sexual harassment in all workplaces. 3. Allow for the recovery of attorneys’ fees in employment and credit and lending cases. 4. Strengthen human trafficking laws. 5. End family status discrimination. 6. Prevent landlords from denying housing based on the source of funds. 7. Stop housing discrimination for victims of domestic violence. 8. End pregnancy discrimination once and for all. 9. Protect domestic violence victims seeking orders of protection. 10. Protect reproductive health care decisions. New York State has a very proud history when it comes to women’s rights. But even today, women are paid on average $11,000 less per year than men for the same job. Women with children are less likely to be recommended for hire and promoted. And women are twice as likely to become a single parent living in poverty or to live out old age in poverty. Beyond that, New York is a major destination for sex and labor trafficking victims, and penalties for trafficking do not match the severity of the crime. The Women’s Equality Agenda will help to finally end these injustices and close the wage gap. It will give women access to better jobs and opportunities for advancement, safety at home and at work, and the right to make private, personal health care decisions. There are only a few weeks left in the legislative session. The women of New York have waited long enough. Pass the Women’s Equality Agenda today. • Free Shaker Aamer
It is an old effort, but some of us have not yet forgotten Shaker Aamer, the innocent UK resident still in Guantanamo years after he has been cleared for release. He his on hunger-strike and we should respond by being ever vigilant in demanding his release. He is not attached with Yemen in any way, so President Obama could do it today, but he has yet to tell us one good reason why he is still there.

  • TELL ANGIE'S KIDS: Cleaning Your Room Is Not Optional
Tell Gigi and Axel not to participate in the patriarchal oppression of moms by waiting until she is standing in their doorway supervising the actual cleaning. Life is better for everyone when Angie gets to be the super-cool, awesome, fun parental unit she is instead of playing the archetype of "nagging mom."

  • Local Political Cronyism hurting communities
Funding for my county's library system has been repeatedly cut over the last several years, thanks in great part to a county commission that is self serving, corrupt, and beholden to corporate interests, while leaving those most at risk in this community twisting in the wind. There are county commissioners who would have the library privatized, thereby making even more difficult access to programs for the poorest of our citizens.

  • Jeff Duncan: Turn Off Your AM Radio & Listen To Your Constituents
Over the past few weeks, Jeff Duncan has been chasing right-wing conspiracy theories rather than pushing for legislation that his constituents care about. He's attacking U.S. officials over Benghazi. He's trying to prevent the census department from being able to collect the information they need to let us know how our economy is doing. He's criticizing the Pentagon for meeting with someone who has a hostile opinion of Christianity.

  • Tell AFLAC to cover same-sex MARRIED couples
AFLAC came to my work place to try to sell their product. The same-sex couples who are married were denied the ability to purchase an AFLAC product that would cover themselves and their family (Spouse and children). They could purchase a product that would cover themselves and the children however because AFLAC had not yet changed its policy the non-covered spouse would have to buy an individual product to receive the benefits. The state where I live passed the Marriage Equity Act in the summer of 2011.
