America cannot afford to be run by the Romney-Ryan ticket, who will do the bidding of the wealthiest 1%, and the polluters at BIG oil and "clean" coal. Having HILLARY CLINTON on the Democratic ticket as VP will GUARANTEE a victory for the Obama-Clinton ticket and the Democratic House and Senate candidates down-ticket.

My petition is about how everyday common people who have committed misdemeanors, even those committed as long as ten years ago and was dismissed. They are being denied the right to work and getting an apartment, because employers and apartment managers run a criminal background check and will not hire them or allow them to move into decent housing, even though the past offense or charge was a misdemeanor and dismissed by the courts. Young productive adults, are being denied their right of a chance to obtain employment and decent housing, because of past mistakes of many years gone by. Employers will not hire them and they desperately want and need jobs to support themselves and their families!

Magazines insert several pieces of paper in every issue, not only newstand issues but subscribed issues. At the least these multiple inserts are annoying and wasteful. At the most tons upon tons of paper are tossed--and trees destroyed--for these redundant and unwanted inserts. We are asking all magazines (especially those who claim to be scientifically, health, and environmentally oriented) to stop using these inserts.

China dominates the rare earth element market. Rare Earth Elements are critical to high tech items (smart phones/tablets, ect)The US needs to re-start its rare earth element mines but a solution must be provided for the Thorium by-product. The best solution to this problem is to use Thorium in the next generation of nuclear reactors. The US explored this area but stopped in the early 1970 because Thorium reactors make no bomb material. In addition Thorium reactors use passive safety not active safety as is used in Uranium reactors. We need to have an adult disscussion of future energy policy, because the sun does not always shine and the wind does not always blow, we need a third option which does not include carbon.

It is important that the VVC community demonstrates that we fully support Victor Valley College's vision, values, mission, and goals and pledge our commitment to meet and/or exceed he recommendations set forth by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

Tell NYU's administration to abandon their multi-billion-dollar expansion plan to build more high-cost dorms, parking lots, and retail space, and tell them to focus on academic excellence. Thirty-seven of NYU's own departments have voted against the plan, yet President Sexton has not responded to his own faculty members. He has not provided any evidence that NYU can afford this plan. Make your voice heard, no matter who you are: you may be a New York City or Greenwich Village resident, NYU staff or alum, or you care about overdevelopment and the future of higher education. Don't allow university executives to build unnecessary high-rises by raising tuition and transforming the Village! This petition is organized by NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan. We Americans have all been held hostage by Congressmen who have sworn loyalty to a "pledge" to NEVER raise a tax. They swore this in deference to a Congressional pledge to work for the best interests of the American people. They didn't quite, but may still drive our country over the cliff if the necessary revenue isn't restored to support our country in defense, education and citizens' health needs.

My family and I live in Rockridge. We and others have systematically surveyed members of the community, and the members of other communities, who hang out with friends, walk and shop along College Avenue. 92% have answered that they oppose Safeway's plan for a three-fold expansion of its store. After hearing of our opposition at five community meetings, Safeway stopped meeting with us and set about imposing their idea about what is best for us. The Berkeley City Council opposes the expansion for the same reason we do: the threatened expansion (1) overrides zoning restriction that limit store size, vehicular congestion and pollution; (2) endangers foot and bicycle traffic on the already heavily-traveled, two lane College Avenue; (3) sabotages twenty five years of neighborhood self-determination; and (4) imperils the small independent businesses that spend their profits in the community. Safeway’s quest for unlimited profits by attracting more vehicular traffic from greater distances, and its refusal to locate in West and East Oakland to serve the needs of residents living in “food deserts,” does not equal the public good. The issue is currently before the Oakland City Council and we need your help.
