Abolish the Death PenaltyCalifornia spends about $137 million every year on death penalty trials, but there has not been an execution for 3.5 years. Florida spends about $51 million every year on death penalty trials. This money could be going towards children's education. The death penalty may be another form of the Jim Crow laws. People who are discriminated against are determined guilty until proven innocent. - Innocent men like Duane Buck, Todd Mitchell, and Anthony Porter have been convicted of murder. According to MotherJones magazine, "Texas inmate Duane Buck was sentenced to death after racist testimony from a psychologist who said Buck's race made him inherently more dangerous. Illinois' Anthony Porter who, after 16 years on death row, walked out of prison 48 hours before his scheduled execution thanks to Northwestern journalism students who proved his innocence. Texas' Cameron Todd Mitchell wasn't as fortunate. A forensic group proved he was innocent of setting a house [on] fire that killed his children five years after his execution." - Amnesty stated, "Of the 500 prisoners executed between 1977 and the end of 1998, more than 81 percent were convicted of the murder of a white, even though blacks and whites are the victims of homicide in almost equal numbers nationwide." - With Franklin's new bill, HB 1, in Georgia, women who have miscarriages will be convicted of murder.149,405 of 200,000 SignaturesCreated by Emilyn Cahn

Support the ACA in KansasIt appears that Governor Sam Brownback would rather waste the state's time and resources trying to defeat the Affordable Care Act than do his job and implement the requirements in a timely manner. Please support holding Sam accountable by signing this petition. He is the governor of Kansas, not Brownbackistan.5,466 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Kirk Harris

Student Loan RatesWhile interest rates are at an all time low, student loan rates for college and graduate students are running from 6.8-7.90%, are non-dischargeable in bankruptcy, and due to recent changes by Congress, require interest to be paid by the students while in school. This heavy burden will force some students to leave school and cause others decades to repay, as tuition rates spiral while colleges and universities make millions. The interest rates need to be reduced and the debts made dischargeable3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mary LeVine

Grand Rapids: Save democracy, end corporate ruleWho should govern, corporations or people? Who does govern? Citizens United, a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, extended the doctrine that corporations are persons and are entitled to make unlimited and anonymous contributions to political campaigns. In its effect, this ruling is corrupting elections, dis-empowering voters, and destroying our democracy. Move To Amend Grand Rapids is urging the City to take steps toward amending the U.S. Constitution to firmly establish that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights and that money is not speech under the First Amendment. Let's amend!164 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Kenneth Schilling

Tell Governor Nixon to Implement the Affordable Care Act in MissouriCitizens of Missouri know that access to quality health care is a human right, not a privilege. We know that many Missouri residents will not have access to quality and affordable health care without the Affordable Care Act. Following the Supreme Court decision to uphold the law, some governors have stated that they will not implement the portion of the Affordable Care Act that expands Medicaid to serve the neediest of our citizens. We are calling on Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster to stand for all of our citizens by committing to fully implementing the Affordable Care Act in a timely manner.7,066 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Sharon Nelson
