• Eliminate Student Loan Debt
People who owe more than 20,000 on Student Loans, have not been able to pay them for over 10 years, and have been unable to pay them because they just don't make enough money, should have their loans forgiven. Currently, their is a limit on how many deferences due to economic hardship a graduate can get and forbearance just makes the loan worse because they capitalize the interest thus increasing the loan!

  • Fracking Moratorium
Sign it to protect both the cleanness of our water and the very solidity of the earth beneath our feet. No more fracking until we get a handle on all its affects. Once we do, we can discuss either lifting the moratorium or putting in a permanent ban, depending on what the data shows us. There are other things we can do besides frack for necessary energy, but there is NO substitute for either clean water to drink, wash with and irrigate nor for the very planet on which we stand.

  • No flights on Sept. 11
In commemoration of the people who died in the terrorist flight attacks on September 11, a solemn tribute could not be more appropriate than a day without flights to mark the occasion. The utter silence of the skies would be a stark reminder to all of the devastation of that dark and disastrous day in our history.

  • Remove "Chernobyl" from Wild Wings' Menu
Wild Wings Cafe still uses "Chernobyl" to describe a sauce type and how hot it is. The Chernobyl disaster should not be remembered in this way. I am asking that the name be removed from the Wild Wings menu.

  • Save Old Torrence-Lytle High: The Only Former Black School In Northern Meck. County
Torrence-Lytle High School in Huntersville, NC was build tin 1937, had only one principal, Isaac T. Graham and one librarian, Esther S. Johnson. In 1966, the only school for blacks in the northern end of Mecklenburg County was closed. Today it has the designation of a historic landmark but some buildings may be slated for demolition because refurbishing them will cost millions. Several companies have created plans to buy the site but none were successful. We're seeking individuals who believe that this site should be saved and brought back to its original character where individuals of all nationalities can walk the sacred halls of my Alma mater.

  • Bring Passenger Rail Service via the MBTA to the MA Southcoast (Fall River, New Bedford & Taunton)
The Massachusetts Southcoast cities of Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton are the only eastern Massachusetts cities not served by the MBTA. Consistently, the Massachusetts Southcoast has higher unemployment than the rest of Massachusetts and remains in a recession long after the rest of Massachusetts recovers. Economic recovery in the communities of the Southcoast require passenger rail service. Recently, the MBTA heralded a passenger rail link through Providence to South Kingston in Rhode Island. The Massachusetts Southcoast should be linked to Boston via the MBTA.

  • Stop BSL in Hall County GA!!
The City of Gainesville, GA, Hall County, and the entire State of Georgia are considering passing breed-specific legislation concerning pitbulls in our area. For many residents, this may mean having a ban put on a beloved member of the family and possibly having to choose between killing their loved one or becoming an outlaw. Please let the members of the Gainesville City council and the Hall County Commissioners know that this isn't fair by signing this petition.

  • The Elephant and the Donkey in the Living Room
Karl Menninger said an accurate diagnosis can greatly enhance a cure. We need a cure, but few are suggesting the diagnosis. We all are greedy beyond bounds. The crime of hoarding is not a crime until you are caught. The crime of huge bonuses, unseemly pensions, fraudulent practices leading to personal ruin are rampant. A beginning would be a combination of Bill Daley and Warren Buffett's amendments---a four-year term limit for representatives, period, and then to receive social security and medicare as a benefit, no consulting or working for corporations with which you wrote legislation. The income tax code would be rewritten to reflect a concern for the human infrastructure and the communal infrastructure.

  • Oregon State Legislators: Serve Oregonians not ALEC Corporations!
Oregonians deserve true representation of their needs by all the legislators they elect to the Oregon Legislature. Eighteen Oregon Republican Representatives and Senators are associates of the powerful and secretive American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) which claims to be a nonpartisan charity yet lobbies for the interests of large corporations rather than the public interests of Oregon citizens who elected them to office. The subterfuge under which ALEC operates has been challenged by Common Cause, which filed a complaint in April with the IRS, charging that ALEC is a lobbyist organization rather than a charity and misuses charity laws, extensively under-reports lobbying, and improperly obtains tax breaks for political donations by ALEC’s corporate funders to state candidates, ballot measures, leadership, and other political committees, funneling millions of dollars into Oregon in order to skew the Oregon political process. The ALEC agenda seeks to remove federal and state environmental regulations, repeal the federal health care reform law, dump state minimum wage laws, and bust unions. What the ALEC agenda does espouse is taxpayer support of public subsidies for private schools, privatization of prisons/detention centers coupled with support for Draconian immigration laws to provide profits for the private corrections industry, and restrictions on voting rights which discriminately disenfranchise people of color, senior citizens, students, and the poor. Oregonians have the right to expect that their interests will be served by their elected officials without the interference of undue monetary and philosophical influence of out-of-state mega-corporations. The following Oregon elected officials who hold current ALEC affiliations have been identified using three resources: Oregon’s campaign finance database ORESTAR, The Oregonian, and analysis by the Center for Media and Democracy at ALEC Exposed (http://alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed). (Those legislators who contact this petition framer to report that they are not current associates of ALEC will be removed from this list. Updated as of November 17, 2012.): Oregon Senator Larry George, R-Sherwood Oregon Senator Fred Girod, R-Stayton Oregon Senator Ted Ferrioli, R-John Day Oregon Representative Sal Esquivel, R-Medford Oregon Representative Tim Freeman, R-Roseburg Oregon Representative Kim Thatcher, R-Keizer Oregon Representative Gene Whisnant, R-Sunriver Oregon Representative Bruce Hanna, R-Roseburg Oregon Representative Jason Conger, R-Bend Oregon Representative Mark Johnson, R-Hood River Oregon Representative Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point Oregon Representative Sherrie Sprenger, R-Scio Oregon Representative Jim Thompson, R-Dallas Oregon Representative Kevin Cameron, R-Salem Oregon Representative Wally Hicks, R-Grants Pass Oregon Representative John Huffman, R-The Dalles Oregon Representative Bill Kennemer, R-Oregon City Oregon Representative Mike McLane, R-Powell Butte
