  • Save Amtrak's Long Distance Trains
This Petition is about preserving Amtrak's Network of Long Distance Trains for future generations to enjoy. I am starting this petition for the following two reasons; one, I cannot imagine the United States being the only Major Country in the world that does not have a national Rail Network, and two Amtrak serves a lot of people, some of these people either do not like to fly or cannot fly for a number of reasons. This issue is very important to me because, in 2015 I was in an accident, due to this accident I have Sciatica in my left leg, and lower back pain. Due to this accident I cannot wait in long lines, nor can I fly.

  • Demand Mike Pence cancel his speech to the NRA convention on May 4
Despite some of the most shocking mass shootings in American history, Mike Pence thinks it's a good idea to be a headliner at the NRA's convention in Dallas on May 4. It's scheduled to take place just days after police officers were critically wounded by a suspect at a Home Depot right there in Dallas. It's sad that Pence is so dismissive of the American lives lost in Las Vegas, Sutherland Springs, and Parkland—not to mention the thousands of people killed every month by gun violence. The majority of Americans want politicians to stop gun violence with common sense reforms. But rather than using his platform to advocate for peace and common sense safety, Mike Pence is rewarding extremists in the NRA. Trump, Pence, Ryan, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP seem happy to continue making excuses for gun violence because the NRA throws millions of dollars at their party. Enough! We must hold all politicians to basic standards of decency. Tell Mike Pence to drop out of the NRA's convention and stand with the majority of Americans who want real action to end gun violence.

  • We stand with the people of Gaza
As a Jew, I am appalled by Israel's brutal assault on non-violent protesters. I believe that the best hope for peace and security for all is for Israel to end its illegal siege of Gaza and its occupation of the West Bank.

  • Drug Treatment for Tooele County Residents
I'm starting this petition because I feel that it is very important for anybody that is plagued by drug addiction to have options if they choose to be sober. At this point in time, Tooele County has very few resources when it comes to rehabilitation. I am wanting to see an inpatient facility that helps addicts without having to have a court order. Recovery needs to be a choice and rehabilitation needs to be readily available and within reach of these people. I would also like to see a detox intake option also. It is very important that addicts who struggle to find help have options and hope to recover from their addictions. There are no centers in the surrounding areas that offer any options for Tooele county residents.

  • Tell the PANYNJ: Pass $19 for Airport Workers!
My name is Gertridis Lopez and I work as a cabin cleaner at Newark Airport. I work hard to support my family every day. But making poverty wages for the past 12 years has meant that even when I work full time, it can still be hard to support my family. So my coworkers and I have started organizing with 32BJ and trying to make better jobs and lives for ourselves. Now, for the first time, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has a proposed policy that could raise 40,000 airport workers out of poverty. There is a lot of talk of statistics and research, but the more personal story is that this proposal to raise airport workers' wages to $19 an hour would transform my life, drastically improve the lives of my children and allow me to fully contribute to my community in Newark. They say engaged parents can make the difference between a child doing well in school or not. But, years of poverty wages at the airport and working a second job in order to support my kids has meant my kids have grown up with me at work instead of having time to be engaged in their lives. My schedule is packed with work but I still found myself behind with expensive bills that cost more than even two jobs would pay. Airport workers are the first line of defense at the airport and we deserve to be paid fairly for this important role. Passengers deserve the experienced workers that a higher wage would create as turnover decreases and airport workers become more skilled at our jobs. And more than anything, our children deserve the benefit of their parents in their lives. Please join me in calling on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to support our local communities and airport passengers alike by passing their proposed $19 an hour wage schedule in June! Yours in the struggle, Gertrudis Lopez

  • No Compressor Station
Spectra Energy / Enbridge plans to build a 7,700-horsepower Fracked-Gas Compressor Station adjacent to the brand new Fore River Bridge in North Weymouth. The Weymouth Compressor Station would be built in the most densely populated location ever in the United States. Compressors are usually built in rural areas given their environmental, health, and safety risks. Compressors pose a serious health risk, especially when in such close proximity to a dense residential area. This proposed compressor station will create noise, pollution and odor problems that will affect residents in surrounding areas and all along the South Shore. There is also a history of catastrophic accidents at similar compressors that could paralyze traffic, devastate our waterfront, and put residents at very serious risk. There is no public vote and limited public input in this process, so it is important for everyone to join the ongoing opposition to ensure that our voices are heard. Join us as we ask our Local, State, and Federal governments and regulatory agencies to put a stop to this foolish and dangerous idea.
