Call for Workers' Cooperatives legislationA study by Rutgers University found that worker-owned co-ops are 4% more productive and 14% more profitable on average than equivalent traditional corporations. They have fewer layoffs in downturns and address workers' rights better as well as being more responsive to the community. Such bills have been passed recently in 5 states with the latest being H6155 in Rhode Island, and supportive legislation was submitted in 2017 to the U.S. House and Senate. It's time to advance democracy at work.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Audette

Children's lives are at risk! Safe sidewalks now!The Speedway Gas Station (833 fourth avenue between 30th and 31st) is right next to PS 172. The sidewalk is not marked. There is no border/boundary between the sidewalk and the station. As a result, cars are constantly driving and reversing on the sidewalks. Although this issue has been going on for years, the danger has heightened because the other gas station in the neighborhood (Mobil) closed. We have emailed Carlos Menchaca, DOT, the precinct, the community board 7, and other local officials. There is no plan and worse—and worse: there is no immediate stop gap, especially at the start of school and the end of school. We asked for barricades, police officers, cones, or other temporary measures while we explore bollards, side walk paint and other permanent solutions. But we can’t even get a meeting with the DOT and local officials. We just get excuses. This is urgent, and the lack of action is appalling. We ask that a temporary stop-gap be put in place immediately. In addition, we want a meeting with the DOT and other decision makers (with a definitive plan with deadlines/benchmarks) to happen. We are frustrated because there have been several calls and emails but no action. We need less talk and more action. Kids lives are at risk!432 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Arsenia Reilly

Marijuana WORKSEveryone has some sort of issue or problem. No matter what it may be, marijuana has NEVER hurt a soul. This is a way better alternative to go to rather than alcohol and major drugs that affect you severely. There are rapists who have less of a sentence in prison than people who were charged with possession of marijuana. This world is ridiculous and every bit of this should stop! Many beneficial things come from this amazing plant. Why are cigarettes legal? Why can you get painkillers? Why is alcohol legal? You ask these questions to yourself. But the only beneficial"drug" that's ILLEGAL is kept away. For what reason?11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chasity Stafford

STOP events at the USA Gymnastics NTTC- "Ranch" ImmediatelyWith the sexual molestation crisis that has occurred in our sport, it is reprehensible that we are requiring our female athletes to continue to train in a facility that was used by a child predator to commit horrible crimes for 20 years. USA Gymnastics SHOULD NOT REQUIRE GYMNASTS TO RETURN TO THE SITE WHERE THEY WERE ABUSED. Let's move our USA Gymnastics National Team Training center to a place that is in good standing with the SafeSport guidelines of our governing body. This action should take place immediately.2,617 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Erica Meitz

A Call to End Health Workers' Participation in the Practice of Solitary ConfinementOn any given day, 80,000-100,000 people are held in Solitary Confinement units in jails and prisons throughout the United States, usually as punishment for some type of infraction – often for infractions as minor as possession of too many postage stamps. People of color are disproportionately subjected to isolation, as are those with mental health needs. The length of time in solitary ranges from a few days to decades. People who’ve been held in solitary have likened it to being buried alive. In 2011, the United Nations declared that Solitary Confinement beyond 15 days constitutes torture. We, the undersigned Helping & Health professionals, question the ethics of health worker participation in the practice of Solitary Confinement. In particular, mental health professionals play a vital role in this practice, as they are routinely called upon to assess the mental status of those held in solitary, to provide psychiatric medication, and to advise correctional personnel as to those at high risk for suicide. Ironically, solitary confinement itself creates and exacerbates mental disorders, yet we are forced to become enablers to this grueling punishment. We call upon the governing bodies of our professions to set mandatory standards for those assigned to these units and to denounce Solitary Confinement in its current form, as it is in direct violation of our Codes of Ethics, which call upon us to uphold the dignity and humanity of all people. Board of Ed: Reject Mayor Boughton's AppointmentWe all have an interest in what happens in our schools and with our children. We want them to experience role models who can and do conduct themselves in a fair, respectful manner. We want them to see that whether or not adults like each other, and whether or not we agree on how things should be done, we all agree to operate by certain non-partisan standards. Cultivating an environment of respect where the spirit of fairness is honored is critical if we expect our children to do the same. As parents, as teachers, as community leaders and members, and especially as people who care about the messages that we impart to our children through our own behavior, I urge you to join me in asking them to stand against the mayor's decision. We need to make it clear to the Board of Education members that they can and should reject this appointment. As residents of CT, we should all be concerned about a gubernatorial candidate who feels it is okay to overstep his vested authority and rewrite policy about how positions are appointed. HISTORY: When the city of Danbury went through the vote just two months ago, voters decisively elected 4 Democrats to the Board of Education. While the remainder of the ballot went largely Republican as it has for some time, the voters made it clear they wanted change on the Board of Education. It was unfortunate that one of the Democrats elected ultimately declined the seat due to a personal conflict, leaving a vacancy. Vacancies are appointed by the members of the Board, on the recommendation by the party which holds the seat. The Board held several votes and could not reach a decision, ending in a stalemate every time. It was never addressed as to why the Democrat-nominated candidate was rejected - he was a young, energetic individual with children in the school system. The Republican-nominated candidate during these BOE votes was someone who ran in the election and garnered the next-to-last number of votes. After several of these votes, the mayor quietly inserted himself into the situation without legal precedent and opted to appoint an individual from the opposing party, not only seating someone who didn't win during the election, but also shifting the balance of the board back to a Republican majority. With this appointment, the spirit of fairness is being challenged. Just two months after the voters of Danbury went to the polls and elected a Democrat, they have been told that their voice does not count. The arguments being made to justify this appointment are not legally viable, but the financial burden of taking it to court is too much, and it will likely go unchallenged. It is time to use the most powerful weapon at our disposal: our voices! Please join us in signing on to this petition so that we may spread awareness of this abuse of power by Mayor Mark Boughton.138 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Kate Conetta
