Say NO to a county park off Salem Church/Ballentine CoveThe Salem Church neighborhood is a quiet residential area comprised of large single family home sites and is zoned low-density residential. The "Project LM" park is planned for an existing homesite lot on a side street called Bonuck Rd. The street is very narrow, windy, and dead ends at neighboring driveways. Richland County Council, spearheaded by Councilman Malinowski, conducted a feasibility study using paid consultants and purchased and planned a waterfront park without any neighbor or community knowledge/input. The county plans to change the current residential zoning to allow for the park, which includes a boat launch, site parking, a fishing pier, kayak & paddle boat rentals, and playground/event area. This park is literally planned to be adjacent to and in the backyards of current residents. There is great concern that the effects of the park will be decreased property values, loitering, water and traffic congestion, and unsupervised activities resulting in safety and security concerns. Additionally, the millions of dollars spent to manage traffic at the intersections of Farming Creek and Salem Church Roads with Highway 6 will have to be reassessed for managing the additional increased volume of traffic. The goal of this petition is to stop the planned park, preserve the current residential zoning, sell the property for residential use only and assist the county in locating a better-suited piece of property for a more suitable community planned county recreation area.194 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Salem Community

Tell Governor Pat McCrory: Stop Allowing Duke Energy To Poison The People Of North CarolinaThe water crisis in Flint, Michigan has actually done one good thing; it's brought light to the fact that knowingly contaminated water is being pumped into homes across the U.S. For more than a year now, families in regions of North Carolina have fallen victim to the contamination caused by Duke Energy and other large corporations. These people have had to resort to living solely on bottled water for their drinking, cooking and cleaning, and have no alternative for their bathing water. Governor Pat McCrory, a former employee of Duke Energy for 30 years, has ignored these people and has refused to publicly address this issue for far too long! Not only has he allowed these heinous wrongdoings to persist, he has actually lowered the fine over leaking coal ash pits throughout North Carolina from $25 million for just one site, to $7 million for all 14 sites across the state. The health of our citizens needs to start coming before big business! Join me in telling Governor McCrory and the rest of the NC State Legislature, "WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH! WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED ANY LONGER!" Say NO to the methanol plant that would put additional stress on an already imperiled Green/Duwam...**Pause in EIS process does not signal the end of the methanol refinery. Continue to comment!** The Green River Coalition and Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition collectively oppose the methanol plant proposed by Northwest Innovation Works. Our major concern relates to the projected 10.4 million gallons of water per day the plant would use from the Tacoma water supply, which is taken from the Green/Duwamish River. The river is already facing critical problems related to low flows. Also, many parts of the river and its tributaries fail to meet water quality standards for dissolved oxygen and temperature. Further withdrawals from the river at the projected magnitude threaten the habitat of existing uses of the river and imperil our efforts to continue restoring the river and bringing it back into compliance with water quality standards. For this reason, among other concerns related to the impact on the environment, our groups are opposed to the proposed methanol plant and demand this proposal be withdrawn.256 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Green River Coalition

Save PA state species from climate change!A warming climate is bad news for Pennsylvania's state bird, fish, and tree -- which could all disappear from the Commonwealth's landscape thanks to global warming. Stop Elcon's hazardous waste plant in Bucks County, PAAn international company known as Elcon is trying to build a hazardous waste plant in Bucks County, PA, where nearly 600 different hazardous materials, like pharmaceutical waste, petrochemicals, and heavy metals, would be boiled down into toxic sludge and salts. Trucks and possibly trains carrying this waste could travel alongside the Delaware River and through Pennsylvania communities on a daily basis -- posing risks to families' air, water, and health. Tell Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection: don't let this hazardous proposal move forward.4,422 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Adam Garber

100% Real Clean Energy for L.A.The Porter Ranch gas leak exposed just how dangerous fracked gas and infrastructure can be, as the gas blowout forced 15,000 residents out of their homes for four months due to health concerns. We have the ability to transition to real clean energy and ensure a future of climate resiliency, good green jobs and healthy communities, but we need L.A. Mayor Garcetti and the L.A. City Council to get on board.50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Alexander

Establish a National Ban on FrackingFracking is a type of drilling that injects millions of gallons of hydraulic fluids — a mixture of chemicals, water and sand — into a well to create pressure that cracks open rock underground, releasing natural gas or oil. This process can deplete and contaminate local water, damage the environment and threaten public health. The fugitive methane pollution from the hydrofracturing process is accelerating global warming. On a national scale, a growing body of scientific evidence is building that the climate benefits of switching from coal to natural gas were a total mirage, with the catastrophic Porter Ranch methane blowout the most visible and extreme example of a nationwide surge in methane leakage as a result of the domestic fracking boom promoted by the Bush and Obama administrations. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide on a twenty-year timespan. Fracking threatens our air and water. The toxic results of using hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas have led to the contamination of drinking water, and disposal of wastewater from fracking causes earthquakes. Oklahoma became the number one place for earthquakes on Earth this year because gas companies inject fracking fluid back into the ground. Toxic and carcinogenic fracking chemicals—as well as hazardous working conditions—are poisoning and killing workers in the fracking industry. Fracking is a large-scale industrial process that doesn’t belong in anyone’s backyard or deserve exemption from laws that protect the health of our children and of our workers. That’s why communities all over the country from New York to California and Texas to Colorado have stood up to the oil and gas industry and said they don’t want fracking in their backyards. We have clean energy solutions to climate change, and fracking is not one of them.63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Brad Johnson

Tell Congress: We Deserve To Know. Label GMO Food!UPDATE: We've won round one! In a first vote, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the DARK Act. But the lobbyists for Big Ag aren't going away. Let's keep up the pressure -- consumers deserve to know what's in our food. -- Jeff The U.S. Senate is expected to vote soon on what is known as the Big Ag-supported DARK Act, which would prohibit states from requiring labeling of genetically modified foods. But the Senate has another choice, one that would put in place a national standard that requires labeling of foods containing GMOs. It's called the Biotechnology Food Labeling and Uniformity Act and it needs your support. This is our chance to stand up to Big Ag and bring GMO labeling to all 50 states, but time is running out. Add your name right away!35,789 of 40,000 SignaturesCreated by Senator Jeff Merkley
