• **HELP PREVENT THE NEXT POSSIBLE DISASTER**
A nuclear meltdown took place in 1959 in our neighborhood at theSanta Susana Field Lab, SSFL (GOOGLE IT!) owned by Boeing, NASA, AND DOE. In 2010 these companies signed an agreement with the State of California and DTSC to fully cleanup their TOXIC WASTE SITE. Four years later they have a plan to use Woolsey Canyon Road, WHERE WE LIVE , as the route to transport trucks loaded with toxic waste, covered only by a plastic tarp, EVERY 6-10 MINUTES, SIX DAYS A WEEK FOR FOR 3-5 YEARS thru WHERE YOU LIVE IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY AND LOS ANGELES areas via the major freeways. WE WANT TO URGE YOU TO HELP US REQUEST THAT OTHER POTENTIAL ROADS BE EXAMINED FOR INSTANCE FIRE ROADS LEADING TO RAIL SPURS, THUS AVOIDING PASSING THRU MAJOR POPULATION AREAS. Please help us and our families by SIGNING THIS PETITION and adding this petition to your facebook and twitter and ask your friends to post this to their facebook and twitter accounts.

  • Save Hofmann Forest from being destroyed
Hofmann Forest has been owned for the benefit of NC State University for 80 years, ever since "Doc" Hofmann purchased the tract for his newly founded School of Forestry. Now, however, the leaders of NCSU are trying to sell this huge coastal forest for $150 million, so they can invest the proceeds in Wall Street instead. And the buyer they've chosen prepared detailed plans to bulldoze 45,000 acres of the forest into cropfields (to grow corn which would feed corporate hogs) and another 9000 acres into golf courses and strip malls. This would be disastrous for wildlife, water quality (3 rivers flow out of Hofmann Forest), and the reputation of NC State University.

  • Another 'Zombie Development?' Vote NO on the Santolina Master Plan!
The Santolina Master Plan is a massive 13,700 acre development that is being proposed to be built on the West Mesa. At build-out, it will have over 37,000 housing units with a population of over 95,000. There are many factors that should concern us regarding the Santolina Master Plan: • The hefty price tag that taxpayers will have to cover (schools and roads alone are already estimated at over $1 billion!) • It proposes an exorbitant level of water use - over 19 million gallons of water per day - these amounts of water required to support the Santolina Master Plan are concerning and are simply not viable in our times of drought • It would increase aquifer depletion in the Rio Grande Basin • It poses a subsequent de-watering of wells in both the North and South Valleys • The “retirement” or transfer of acequia Pre-1907 water rights from irrigated lands in the Middle Rio Grande Administrative Area (MRGA) to satisfy the conditions of approval for the ABCWUA ground water permit RG-960, thus if the Santolina Master Plan is approved, it is likely that Acequias who have ‘vested’ pre-1907 water rights would be threatened. • It would be built on a highly erodible area of large sand dunes • Bottom line, the Santolina Master Plan poses a threat to the cultural, historic and natural tapestry of our Acequias and our precious green belt along the Rio Grande. The Santolina Master Plan WILL negatively impact the well being and livelihood of our city and our communities.

  • University of Miami is no Environmental Steward
The University is no longer a steward to the environment after knowingly selling imperiled rockland to a developer who plans a bigbox/strip mall complex. The signers of this petition ask that the University of Miami remove from its website and marketing any self-identification as a steward of the environment.

  • Cove Point Pledge of Resistance
On Sunday, July 13, an estimated 1,500 concerned and affected people marched to the offices of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in Washington, DC. Their purpose was to protest the pending approval of Dominion Resources’ Cove Point LNG Export Facility. The following day, more than forty people disrupted the operation of the FERC for several hours as an act of civil disobedience, resulting in the arrest of twenty-five protesters. We directly affected residents and supporters remain committed to stopping further shale gas infrastructure in order to protect the health of our communities and all people, as well as to halt further driving of climate change. If constructed, the Cove Point LNG Export Facility would release over 2 million tons per year of greenhouse gas emissions, making it the fourth largest emitter in Maryland and would provide an international market for hydraulically-fractured natural gas, locking communities throughout the Marcellus Shale region into a future with more wells, fracking, and pipelines. The Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline, a Williams Company project, is currently before FERC. If constructed, it will deliver gas directly from Pennsylvania to Cove Point. The environmental review of Cove Point should include an impact analysis of Atlantic Sunrise. We, the undersigned, make the following pledge to ensure that FERC deny projects that will exacerbate environmental and health problems at the points of extraction, transportation, refining, and disposal of natural gas products. "We pledge, if necessary, to join others in our communities, and engage in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience that could result in our arrest in order to send the message to FERC Commissioners that they must take the voices of impacted residents seriously and reject the Cove Point Export Facility, the Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline, and subsequent gas infrastructure projects that unduly impact the health and well-being of our communities." Join us! In Solidarity, - The FERC 25

  • The Anacostia is a river, not a platform for political statements
As a boater on the Anacostia I want our community to move beyond negative stereotypes that it is polluted and dangerous. When the river is viewed only in negative terms, it is under valued. A sunken gas station is the wrong message and will set back efforts to improve the river's image. The part of the river slated for this installation is a popular section for boaters. It will be a safety hazard to high school teams during the busy fall rowing season. There are also environmental sampling tests slated for the fall that will be disrupted by the installation. It maybe a noble statement about global warming, but don't make it at the cost of our river - already struggling for respect.

  • Ban Neonicotinoid in the USA and save the Bees, the Pollinators, and the People…
Neonicotinoid is a systemic, persistent pesticide that is used on plants. It is Killing the Honey Bees and other pollinators. It is also Neurotoxic to humans. It is also environmental risk polluting the soil, water and Air. Remember… Without the pollinators in time there will be No People! Initially neonicotinoids were praised for their low-toxicity to many beneficial insects, including bees; however recently this claim has come into question. New research points to this pesticide being toxic to bees and other beneficial insects through low level contamination of nectar and pollen with neonicotinoid insecticides used in agriculture.

  • Stop dangerous oil by rail
There have been 70 oil train incidents just this year including the tragic explosion in Quebec that killed 47 people and destroyed a town. The Department of Transportation can prevent the next imminent oil train disaster by removing unsafe tank cars carrying crude oil and other dangerous materials from the rails.

  • CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY: Stop Big Oil from GUTTING CA’s landmark climate change legislation
Big Oil front groups have launched a statewide misinformation campaign to rattle the Legislature and delay the implementation of CA's landmark cap-and-trade program, Assembly Bill 32. And it’s working! But this month, around a dozen CA Democrats, led by Assembly Member Henry Perea (D), introduced a bill that could KILL California’s groundbreaking solution to reducing carbon emissions and help protect Big Oil’s bottom-line before the bill goes into full effect in January. California’s landmark cap-and-trade law is a significant solution to the imminent threat of climate change and takes serious measures to reduce greenhouse gases, while creating jobs and generating millions of dollars in revenue. If California can succeed, it will act as model legislation for the rest of the country, even the world. Big Oil’s misinformation campaign claims that delaying the roll-out of AB 32 will protect the poor and middle class, but the truth is that climate change will impact lower-income communities even more harshly than wealthier communities.
