• Stop renewing Monsanto Patents as they come due for renewal
Monsanto's patents have not been properly tested. They use their own scientists and information is not accurate. "We The People" are the guinea pigs for Monsanto.

  • Residential Honey Beekeeping
Honeybees are vital to our food supply, representing 70% of pollination activity. Honeybees are in serious decline. Changing residential honey beekeeping to state jurisdiction will remove existing discrimination at the city level, which is prohibiting and limiting beekeeping. It will enable standardized rules to be implemented and will contribute to better management oversight. This is a necessary step in the fight to save our bees.

  • Protect America’s Rainforest From Old-Growth Logging
We have an opportunity to save the Tongass rainforest—but we need your help now to tell agency officials to end destructive industrial-scale old-growth logging on the Tongass much more quickly than the Forest Service’s proposed 10-15 year timeline. The Tongass is one of the few old-growth temperate rainforests in the world and America’s largest national forest. Its towering stands of 700 year old trees provide vital habitat for bears, salmon, Sitka black-tailed deer, goshawks, and—importantly—the rare and dwindling Alexander Archipelago wolf. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently found that, because of excessive old-growth logging, this unique subspecies of wolf may warrant listing under the Endangered Species Act. At times, the Obama Administration has offered encouraging words about ending the large-scale destruction of this rainforest from old-growth logging. And in May 2014, the Administration announced it would be starting a process to amend the Tongass Forest Plan to phase out these devastating logging practices. Unfortunately, the U.S. Forest Service proposes taking far too long to complete that goal—another 10-15 years of industrial old-growth logging. Worse, the agency is set to increase old-growth timber sales on the Tongass in the meantime, with several big new sales in the worksgrowth timber sales on the Tongass in the meantime with several big new sales in the works—some of the largest the Tongass has seen in over two decades. The wolves and other species of the Tongass just can’t afford more habitat destruction. Take action now to protect the Tongass National Forest from destructive industrial-scale old-growth logging.

  • Nat'l Assoc of Counties: Do NOT oppose EPA standards on particulates
To summarize, there is no safe level of PM10 and PM2.5. That is, the less of these pollutants, the less death and disease. The more of these, the more death and disease. Thus, EPA sets the standard based on a policy judgement of how much death and disease it is willing to accept. If the National Association of Counties wants more death and disease, they should say so. The Clean Air Act requires EPA to include an adequate margin of safety in the standards. It is unseemly for the National Association of Counties to urge EPA to advocate for no safety margin and a standard that will produce more deaths.

  • Support investments in Energy Efficiency for Nevada!
Your petition will be sent to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Legislative Committee on Energy, which is made up of six state legislators who are working on energy issues before the next legislative session. Your voice shows that there is community support for making energy efficiency a priority. Energy efficiency plays an important role in growing our clean energy economy by bringing our energy infrastructure into the 21st century. Energy efficiency measures such as installing lower wattage light bulbs, adding insulation, and sealing air ducts in buildings will decrease Nevada’s overall energy demand, while reducing our bills and creating jobs here in Nevada. Additionally, new energy efficiency programs using smart technologies empower consumers to take control of their energy on a daily basis - not just a monthly basis. Not only does energy efficiency help decrease our rates, it also decreases our need for new future power plants, saving consumers more money in the future.

  • Stop the Spectra NYC Pipeline!
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has already been proven to create dangerously high chemical and gas levels in ground and reservoir waters near fracking sites. NYC has historically had clean and safe drinking water; now it is threatened with both water supply, environmental and earthquake risks thanks to this project. We must tell our State Legislature and our Governor to say "no" to Spectra NYC.

  • Arizona Public Service: Stop Attacking Solar
Solar energy is the most practical renewable energy source available in Arizona. In the past, the Arizona renewable energy standards led utilities to provide incentives to customers to install solar energy for their homes and businesses, and to build solar power plants such as Solana in Gila Bend. However, the renewable energy standards set by state regulators are so low that not only is Arizona last among the eight most populous Western states in its commitment to renewable energy, but Arizona can meet the standard for 2016 without adding one new additional array. The standard for solar on businesses has been met through 2020. Because the standard has been met, APS no longer offers customer rebates for the installation of solar energy systems. APS further discourages business customers from installing solar energy systems by an outdated rate plan that fails to take into consideration the value of solar energy produced by the business. Other states have rate plans that encourage businesses to use solar power, and there is no reason why APS cannot do the same. APS complains it would be too complicated to figure out how to incorporate additional solar capacity into their system, but neighboring states such as California have managed to do so, and some utilities are getting almost 25% of their electricity from renewable energy sources.

  • Save the Culver Blvd Median Park
The Culver City Public Works Dept is proposing a drastic and unnecessary bulldozing of the Culver Median Park from a planted and pleasant 60 feet to 44 feet while pushing it into and narrowing the north side service road, bringing the traffic - and its noise - 32 feet closer to the North side residents of Culver Blvd.

  • Ban Plastic Bags in Eastchester, NY
We are all responsible for helping the environment. Every year Americans alone use 100 billion plastic grocery bags and only 15% are recycled. Many of these bags end up killing aquatic animals and filling up landfills where toxins then seep into ground water or water streams. Eastchester should join towns like Larchmont, Rye and Mamaroneck and ban the retail use of plastic bags.

  • Declare your independence from bee-killing pesticides!
Friends of the Earth tested “bee-friendly” garden plants from Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart in 18 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The tests found more than half of the plant samples tested contained neonicotinoid (neonic) pesticides at levels that could harm or kill bees--with no warning to consumers. So, instead of helping bees in our gardens, we may be unknowingly poisoning them. Thousands of people across the country have signed petitions, sent letters and taken to the streets. They've asked retailers, including Home Depot and Lowe’s, to stop selling neonic pesticides. While we are making some progress and are in dialogue, these and other garden retail giants have yet to publicly commit to getting neonics off their shelves. Pledge to only purchase neonic-free, organic garden plants and seeds. We’ll deliver these pledges to Lowe’s, Home Depot and other top retailers and demand that they listen to sound science and their customers and give bees a chance!

  • Ban plastic shopping bags
I work in a healthfood store and I still see a tremendous amount of plastic bags used and wasted. The chemicals these bags leach into our water supply and into the water supply of our marine life is toxic. Our land fills are overcome by so many non-biodegradable plastics that this is a first step in a long line of things we must do to start making a difference.
