The New York Times: Don't Publish Climate DenialClimate change deniers, from Fox News to Donald Trump, are using the polar vortex to say that cold weather disproves global warming. Unfortunately, the same could happen in the opinion pages of The New York Times. In October 2013, The Los Angeles Times announced that it would refuse to publish climate-denying letters, just as it would any other "factual inaccuracies"--but the New York Times hasn't yet followed suit. Our national conversation is polluted by conspiracy theories, slowing progress for much-needed climate action. That's why it's more important than ever that our most respected newspapers--chief among them, The New York Times--set a precedent and refuse to legitimize climate denial in its letters pages.1,824 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Emily Southard

Mercury dangers from CFL'sNow that the law signed by President Bush has gone into effect mandating that no more standard light bulbs may be sold once store stock is depleted, we need to have mandatory recycling for the mercury containing CFL's that will replace the old style ones. Mercury is a deadly neurotoxin that we need to keep out of landfills and out of our water. This is a health hazard to all of us. Any store that sells these bulbs should be required to take back burnt out ones to be responsibly recycled.35 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Edward Temple

Ban Duck Hunting in Upper Narragansett Bay, RIGunshots starting in early morning and lasting all daylight hours are bothering thousands of residents for the sport of a few duck hunters. The gunshots are loud and start very early in the morning even on weekends and last all day long. Dogs and children are frightened by the gunshots and adults are bothered by the frequent loud noise and the thought that there could be a hunting accident right in someone's back yard. Duck hunters create a noticeable amount of plastic trash from spent cartridges which fall into the water. This plastic washes ashore onto our beaches in large quantities. I remember one walk I took last year where about every 10 feet i picked up a cartridge. I had a bag full in 15 minutes. The hunters are hunting primarily Scaup ducks who's numbers are in decline since the 1980's. However, the noise alone is reason enough to ban the practice since it has no benefits for the surrounding local communities. Please sign and spread the word!823 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Robin Pfahning

Protect Our ParksOur County Parks are owned by the public, not corporations. In order to preserve the clean air and water in and surrounding our parks, we must be steadfast in not allowing fracking, or any other form of industrialization, to take place in these areas.555 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Protect Our Parks

A Constitutional Crisis Continues in Colorado(1) Because the unconstitutional COGCC is a "captured agency" of the Colorado Oil & Gas Fracking Industry. (2) Because WE THE PEOPLE OF COLORADO are injured and continue to receive injury to our persons, posterity and property, because the Oil & Gas Fracking Industry in Colorado operates under the impunity of "moral hazard". Therefore, WE THE PEOPLE OF COLORADO hereby exercise our First Amendment rights and demand of you nine Members of Congress an expeditious "Congressional Inquiry" into the constitutionality and legality of the COLORADO OIL & GAS CONSERVATION COMMISSION ACT.157 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Carl L. Eminent Domain For Mount ManresaMount Manresa is at risk of being destroyed for housing. The destruction of the environment and trees which have been here for hundreds of years are vital to the community. The community infrastructure cannot handle the overdevelopment planned for the Mount Manresa site. Eminent Domain can be used for establishing parks and setting aside open space for future generations, preserving places of historic interest and remarkable natural beauty, and protecting environmentally sensitive areas. This petition is to save Mount Manresa using eminent domain.1,854 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Save Mount Manresa Committee

Ask President Obama to enforce use of Eagle deterrent devices. My daughter, Belle, is an animal lover and has been since a baby. She wants to be a Veterinarian but also wants to teach Humans to communicate with animals. Right now the only communication We can do with animals is for them. We discuss current events in my house and when my daughter learned Eagles were dying and our Government allows it, she cried. I had the same reaction when I heard about extinct Pandas, Tigers and Monk Seal. For them I ask President Barack Obama to require Windmill companies to use bird deterrent devices.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kamaile Harris

Forbid the killing of cougars where a self sustaining population is not yet present!I am a conservationist and educator who deeply cares about biodiversity. As the disappearance of cougars has led to a trophic cascade of disappearing native birds, invertebrates and plants (see http://www.cof.orst.edu/leopold/cougars/OpenHouseposter.pdf), I was aghast when I learned that cougars attempting to recolonize the East are being killed -- without punishment from many states' local authorities! In order to re-establish a more balanced ecosystem, keystone predators must be allowed to recolonize the eastern US.98 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Morresi

Radio Disney: Stop Promoting Oil and Gas Extraction to KidsThe nation’s largest children’s radio network, Radio Disney, has joined forces with the Ohio Oil and Gas Association to deliver a musical roadshow to kids that promotes fossil fuel extraction and fracking under the guise of teaching them “science.” (1) The show has already been delivered dozens of times at schools and county fairs across the state. Worse yet, it is being considered for expansion in 2014. As the mom of two young boys who love Disney movies and music, and also as the Director of Climate Parents, I believe that a family-focused brand like Disney has no business peddling dirty energy to our kids. At Radio Disney’s “Rocking in Ohio” roadshow, popular DJ’s lead kids in games—such as a pipeline building contest—that promote oil and gas drilling in a festive atmosphere where pop music blares and kids receive Disney-themed prizes. There is no mention of the fact that burning fossil fuels is polluting our air and water, giving our kids asthma, and creating dangerous climate impacts like superstorms and droughts that endanger our communities. It's no surprise that the fossil fuel industry would want to partner with Radio Disney, which broadcasts in more than 35 markets around the country and online and calls itself the "unrivaled broadcast radio network for kids and families." (2) Rhonda Reda, who works for the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, said of the roadshow, "It allows science to be fun. Who better to help than Radio Disney?" (3) But if Radio Disney were really interested in teaching kids about the relationship between science and energy, it would champion energy that is "kid safe and climate safe"--not carbon polluting fossil fuels that put children at risk. Parents and families are Disney's most important customers. If enough of us speak out, we can compel them to end this misguided roadshow immediately. Please sign our petition. SOURCES: 1.
