Protect the Cheyenne Ancestral HomelandArch Coal wishes to put in a new Tongue River Railroad for a new Otter Creek coal strip mine in the Cheyenne Ancestral Homeland. The proposed development would have numerous impacts to the land, wildlife, water, air, and ultimately destroy sacred sites. No public interest is served by this project, and to destroy a people's sacred land is wrong.4,709 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Winona LaDuke -- Honor the Earth

STOP demolition of Hollywood Park 12/2013Hollywood Park Race Track is set for demolition by developers. Our mission is the preservation of this iconic -- and-- Californian landmark. TAKE ACTION! Horses such as Seabiscuit, Lava Man, Citation & Zenyatta have lived and raced here. Trainers such as Jack Van Berg, Bobby Frankel, Charlie Whittingham, Doug O' Neill and Bobby Baffert train or have trained here. Jockeys like Red Pollard, Pat Day, Chantal Sutherland, Laffit Pincay, Victor Espinoza and Mike Smith have raced here. Bing Crosby, Walt Disney, Samuel Goldwyn are a few of the famous luminaries who contributed to Hollywood Park's history! The Hollywood Park infield lake has a young flock of Flamingos originating from Hialeah Park Race Track, the sole fertile flock in the USA. The original flock (12 birds) imported from Cuba in the 60's has increased to nearly 500 including some of the original breeding stock. If we preserve the habitat in Hollywood Park, San Diego Zoo experts predict that this flock could increase to 4-500 birds by 2070. Your signature and comment could help preserve Hollywood Park by listing it on the National Trust's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in USA for future generations to enjoy.425 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Allison Booth

Tell Michelle Obama to stand up for the bees!First Lady Michelle Obama has done something extraordinary: she’s not only brought an organic garden to the White House, she’s also installed a hive of 70,000 bees. Like many backyard gardeners and beekeepers across the country, the First Lady is doing her part to create a habitat for bees, which are essential pollinators for one out of three bites of food. But as you’ve probably heard, bees are dying off around the world in record numbers. A growing body of science is pointing to the world’s most popular class of pesticides called neonicotinoids (or neonics), made by giant chemical companies Bayer and Syngenta, as the key factor in the global bee die-off crisis. Please ask Michelle to set an example for the nation by removing bee-killing pesticides from the White House gardens, urging the EPA to protect bees and calling on Congress to support the Save America’s Pollinators Act, recently introduced by Rep. John Conyers (D, Mich.) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D, Ore.).151 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Peter Stocker

CNBC: Don’t become the next Fox News – stop denying climate changeWhen President Obama gave his landmark speech in June calling on America to address the causes and impacts of climate change, business station CNBC was the only cable news network that refused to run even one second of the speech. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the network’s egregious climate reporting. A recent Media Matters report found that over half of CNBC’s climate science coverage since 2013 has cast doubt on the scientific consensus that CO2 emissions from fossil fuels is causing climate change. When viewers called CNBC out over Twitter for presenting false information, Squawk Box co-host Joe Kernen responded with offensive statements, calling the tweets a “global warming jihad launched against me by the Eco Taliban”. What’s more, he responded on air, saying: “You haven’t read my Twitter feed, I’ll tell you that much […] there’s a lot of things happening the enviro-socialists are–man, it is a cult. It is a bona fide cult." Calling groups that acknowledge climate change part of a cult isn't just absurd, it’s really bad business advice. This is the kind of climate coverage we expect from Fox News, not a subsidiary of NBC. As a major business network under the banner of NBC Universal, CNBC has a responsibility to report on how climate change will impact its viewers, particularly from a financial perspective, not give voice to disproven conspiracy theories. When the recession hit, CNBC came under fire for making excuses for Wall Street. Now they’re denying climate change. We can’t afford to have CNBC go down the same path as Fox News, compromising their integrity to appeal to right wing viewers. Right now, because CNBC’s ratings are declining, CNBC management will be looking to make changes to get their ratings and advertisers back. We know they are listening. If we make a strong push for responsible journalism and accurate climate reporting, our efforts could help turn things around at CNBC. Please add your voice.1,559 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Jesse Bacon

Cruse/Club Corridor Neighborhoods in PerilA controversial rezoning issue threatens to deprive our neighborhoods of a sorely needed open space park in the most recreationally under-served region of Gwinnett County, Georgia. The 130 acres of undeveloped land, locally known as "The Range", is owned by Cisco Systems and is currently under a sales contract between Cisco and a developer. Making use of a contingency clause in the contract, Rocklyn Homes is trying to rezone The Range to permit construction of 399 homes, which promises to adversely impact the quality of life for all neighbors. If they succeed in rezoning, we can forget any and all chances of preserving the land for an open space park in one of Gwinnett's most populous census tracts. Please help us persuade our county commissioners to flat out deny Rocklyn Homes' application for rezoning. Not "approve"...and not "approve with conditions"...but to flat out "DENY"!729 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Marlin Knapp

Protect Our Lakes and Rivers from Sulfide Mining PollutionNo sulfide mine has ever been successfully operated and closed without polluting nearby waters with sulfuric acid and toxic metals. But sulfide mines are being proposed for the first time in Minnesota, near the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior where they put our water and economy at risk. The cost for taxpayers to clean up sulfide mines in other states is estimated at $20 billion. Governor Dayton can protect our state's waters by demanding proof that mining companies can answer "yes" to these 4 simple questions. Tell Congress: Close loophole for fracking wasteIn the past few years, the drilling industry has created tens of billions of gallons of fracking waste, which is often laced with cancer-causing and even radioactive material. Shockingly, fracking and drilling pollution is exempt from our cornerstone national hazardous waste laws. The result is simple and jaw-dropping: Fracking waste can be sprayed on our roads as a deicer, stored in open waste pits that overflow into our waterways -- and some Western communities are using it as water for livestock. We can fix this, thanks to Pennsylvania’s very own Rep. Matthew Cartwright’s CLEANER Act, which will finally regulate dangerous fracking and drilling waste. This toxic waste has already made its way into our streams, rivers and drinking water sources, putting our health and environment at risk. Consider: * Fracking waste discharged at a sewage treatment plant in Pittsburgh led to a drinking water advisory for nearby communities. * 44,000 barrels of drilling wastewater was discharged into Bucks County’s Neshaminy Creek through a local sewage plant. * And, just a few months ago, a wastewater hauler illegally dumped 250,000 gallons of fracking wastewater into the Mahoning River in Ohio. The CLEANER Act would help curb the toxic waste threat our communities face every day, such as these, by requiring the tracking of every gallon of fracking waste from the day it’s created at the drilling site and help ensure safer disposal.115 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Adam Garber
