My state of Hawai'i has been a leader in promoting photovoltaic solar technology for residences and businesses. However, there is a lobbying effort to discontinue state tax rebates and credits. The City is proposing to annex adjacent farmlands for the purpose of development under the pretense of protection. The land is already protected by the County. There is no need to annex the lands. No environmental or conservation group supports the annexation. If allowed, hundreds of productive farmland acres will be lost along with open space, and habitat. This must stop now.

After researching the many ingredients in every-day grocery store foods, I have found an over abundance of preservatives in most. The alternatives are hard to distinguish, unless you know the preservatives by name, in addition, the healthier versions are more costly! Please sign to urge the NC General Assembly to repeal Senate Bill 820 - the Clean Energy and Economic Security Act. If ever there was a bill with a categorically fallacious name, this is it. It will provide neither clean energy nor economic security. First, water contamination WILL occur because the shale field actually pierces the aquifer. Drinking water will be laced with carcinogens. Second, because the shale deposits in Chatham, Lee and Moore counties contain natural gas reserves of less than five years, as estimated by the NC State geologist, the alleged economic boom will usher in a bust within five years. Moreover, fewer than 400 jobs per year will be provided, and most of these will be filled with wildcatters from other fracking states. Fracking is a 24-7 nightmare. There is non-stop noise; entire roads are destroyed; entire communities are disrupted. Please repeal Senate Bill 820. Keep NC frack-free.

If we don't take huge steps to stop CLIMATE CHANGE, it will be too late to build energy solutions. There are many reasons to call for a moratorium. This petition will have the most impact if we all speak from the heart, but if you're pressed for time or feeling lazy, why not copy and paste "Chill, baby, chill - no more dirty drilling" into the comment field? Or what I wrote, "I demand a moratorium on further gas permits until a proper harms/benefits analysis with public review and comment, evaluating the cumulative impacts of the entire 10,000+ square mile Marcellus play in Pennsylvania, is completed; and enforceable regulations to ensure the gas is extracted safely, responsibly and fairly have been implemented."
