Stop the War on WolvesInterior Secretary Ken Salazar using the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has removed the grey wolves in Wyoming from the endangered species list. The wolves in Idaho were delisted earlier which led to the state of Idaho authorizing the killing of almost all the wolves in Idaho by setting no limit on the number of kills. Three hundred and seventy wolves have been killed in Idaho so far out of 1000 wolves. The state of Wyoming has plans to kill almost all the wolves in Wyoming. Hunters will be able to kill the wolves on sight in 85% of the state.633 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Ron Marshall

Dredging the Susquehanna RiverDuring the past 50 years little has been done to mitigiate the flooding caused by the Susquehanna River. The DEC has set strict guidelines for removing debris from feeder creeks making it difficult to keep new debris from forming islands and clogging the river bed. Countless business have been forced to relocate and hundreds of families have lost their homes because of the shallow depth of the Susquehanna River and numerous gravel deposits that have formed within the river. Instead of spending millions of dollars every few years for FEMA to assist flood victims, the Corp of Engineers should dredge the river from Binghamton, NY to the area where the Corp. of Engineers rerouted the Susquehanna River around Corning, NY. The end result: millions of dollars would be saved, the Susquehanna River would be navigational and clean, and wildlife would flourish. Residents and businesses would have a sense of security. The gravel taken from the Susquehanna would be welcomed by town and city highway departments thus helping to save money. The residents of Vestal, NY get their drinking water from wells under the Susquehanna River. The Johnson City sewer plant, which is located adjacent to the Susquehanna River, flooded numerous time during the past 40 years. During the flooding, the plant released raw sewage into the Susquehanna River. Where fish once flourished, now they glow.70 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Harold J. Barend

Responsible Commercial Use of Heat and ACHow shocking is it in this age of global warming and climate change to walk by a department store with its AC or heat going full blast, while the doors stand wide open? While we all understand the objective of drawing customers into the store and making money, it is time to put a stop to such environmentally irresponsible choices that are so simple to remedy. Using indoor climate control? Close the door!3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Pamela M

Close the SUV fuel economy loopholeFor two decades now, automakers have pushed highly-profitable large SUVs and sharply reduced or eliminated wagon variations of popular small- and midsized cars. Due to a loophole in the decades-old EPA regulations, these SUVs are classified as "commercial" vehicles and are exempt from the "gas guzzler" tax that is imposed upon cars that get poor fuel economy. We are calling on Congress to level the playing field. Hold SUVs to the same standard as passenger cars, because they are used the same way. Consumers who choose to buy low fuel economy SUVs should be subject to the same tax a car buyer pays for choosing a car that uses excess fuel.193 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Gregg Dinino

ElectrosmogThe health of American's is being comprmised by electrosmog. Samart meters and cell towers are forced on us because of the government. I have a choice to use a cell phone or microwave. But I have no choice about Smart meters or cell towers .7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Puccetti

Moratorium on Hydraulic Fracturing Until Proven SafeFracking is a serious threat to clean water, and therefore a threat to public health and environmental health. Frackers are exempt from environmental regulation, thanks to the so-called "Halliburton Loophole," courtesy of the Bush administrations energy policy. In hydraulic fracturing, literally millions of gallons of precious clean water and tens of thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals are blasted into layers of shale deep underground. These chemicals, many of which are carcinogenic and/or extremely toxic to aquatic life, inevitably leak into ground water, which feeds peoples wells, and ultimately larger waterways. Germany does not allow hydraulic fracturing in the country, and neither should we.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Jane Burke

Emissions for Everyone! There are no emission regulations for the trucks and cars on the road of Colorado Springs or anywhere in the state of Colorado! I get sick and instantly affected by the quality of air on the road, and it is an appalling sight to see black clouds covering the entire surface of huge semi-truck. Everyone needs to be required to pass a clean emissions test to drive on the road - keep our lungs, trees, water and environment clean, healthy and safe!!5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gethen Baker

Stop Seismic Surveys in the Arctic!National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is poised to authorize “Incidental Harassment Permits” to ION Geophysical to trawl huge arrays of seismic airguns through the Chukchi and Beaufort Arctic Seas. ION’s survey would result in harassment takes of a large number of marine mammals, in violation of the “small numbers” requirement of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. NMFS proposes to authorize the disruption of the behavior of over 250 bowhead whales, almost 5,000 beluga whales, and over 60,000 seals. NMFS admits that animals will suffer permanent hearing loss (also termed permanent threshold shift “PTS”), but justifies the activities with a series of unsubstantiated assumptions about the duration of exposure, and animals ability to escape injury. ION proposes using two towed arrays consisting of 26 active airguns with a total discharge volume of 4,450 cubic inches. They propose subjecting 80,970 mi2 (209,752 km2) of pristine Arctic habitat to airgun noise in excess of 160dB (re: 1µPa). We know that foraging and migration disruptions occur at much lower levels, and that stress in the extreme Arctic environment compromises the health and reproductive success of all marine life. These surveys are the preamble to a fossil fuel Klondike in the Arctic and must be halted. Please join us in our petition to the National Marine Fisheries Service deny authorization of this reckless proposal.
