There's been a huge discrepancy between what the government has publicly said about who has been killed by U.S. drone strikes - in particular, how many civilians have been killed - and the record of independent reporting. Because of the secrecy of the program, there's been little accountability for this discrepancy. Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Walter Jones (R-NC) have now introduced legislation (1) – the Targeted Lethal Force Transparency Act – to require an annual report on the number of combatants and civilians killed or injured annually by U.S. drone strikes. The requirement is retroactive for five years. It also requires that the report include the definitions of combatants and civilian noncombatants used. This bill would increase the transparency and accountability of drone strikes, a goal that has been endorsed by President Obama, CIA Director Brennan, and others in the intelligence community. Millions of landmines are left behind as reminders of conflict in war-torn places like Colombia. We need to conclude the policy review to ban antipersonnel land mines. I was born and raised in Colombia, a beautiful country that has the dishonorable 2nd place for land mine incidents.

Three years ago, on March 17th, 2011, a U.S. drone strike hit the small town of Datta Khel in Pakistan killing a large number of tribal elders devastating the people of Datta Khel, as well as the surrounding communities. Since this strike, one of the largest in history, the American government has yet to even acknowledge that the strike even occurred, or provide any other details on the incident. When civilian deaths have been alleged, as they have been in Datta Khel, the public has a right to understand the merit of these allegations, and the government has a responsibility to tell us the truth.

The Venezuelan people have suffered for 15 years the imposition of a totalitarian regimen that progressively has limited freedom and peace. Gross violations of humans rights seen for the past two months have been well documented by the Venezuelan people through the social media due to the lack of independent media outlets. It is urgent for the US to stand with the Venezuelan people and to promote the universal values of freedom and human rights.

The TPP will have ruinous consequences for free speech on the Internet by expanding already ridiculous copyright protections and laying the groundwork for internet censorship. Russia's invasion of The Crimea and intent to invade the Ukraine has "Third Reich" written all over it. Millions were brutally murdered, in addition to those killed in the world war which quickly followed Hitler's invasion. The world waited too late before intervening then and this should not happen again. I think citizens in addition to governments can put pressure on Putin and his henchmen to stand down and to let them know the world is against them.
