A question on citizenship has been proposed for the 2020 census. This is a terrible idea as it discourages non-citizens (legal or not) from participating in the census. And the census affects resources for your state/county/city etc. and re-districting decisions. Everyone should be counted. If enough of us pledge to refuse to answer this question, regardless of citizenship status, then it will show this question to be the worthless & racist question it is. The online form might require the question to be answered, so we may all have to wait for the paper version. That increased cost alone may influence the decision makers. Feel free to send this far and wide! Each of us who pledges makes a difference. Ideally, if enough of us pledge BEFORE the census forms go out, the citizenship question will be scrapped.

Seven Vermont legislators have signed a letter urging Burlington voters to vote “Yes” on ballot question #6 regarding the F35s. See the letter below: We stand together in favor of Burlington’s ballot question #6 to oppose the basing of the F-35s at the Vermont Air National Guard. The issues are as follows: 1. Noise/Housing: The F-35 is over four times louder than the current F-16, which will put over 6,600 people’s home in a high decibel noise zone that the Federal Government classifies as unsuitable for residential use.1 2. Crash rate: The planes are still new and as such have an eight times higher crash rate than the F-16s. Typically the Air Force chooses a remote base for the new military aircraft. With 1,400 homes in the crash zone, we cannot take this risk. The current runway aims directly at the largest shopping area in Vermont with two dozen big box stores one mile away in Williston. This is not an abstract issue. In 1965, a military jet crashed in Williston. Fortunately, the area was an open field at the time so the casualties were limited to the two people on board.2 3. Jobs/Air Guard base closure: The Air Force has repeatedly stated that there were any number of other military aircraft for the VT Air Guard to fly if the F-35 did not come here. They would simply get another flying mission, as they have in the past. They could fly another fighter aircraft, or a military transport, or drones, or perform cybersecurity missions. And the jobs could increase. For example, the C-130 is a possibility and it needs three to five crew members per flight as opposed to one sole pilot for the F-35.3 4. Timeline: We know that it is not too late to take a stand and change the trajectory of this decision. Basing decisions have been reversed because of public outcry, congressional action, or legal action in Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, and Alaska.4 We urge you to vote yes on ballot question #6 to oppose the local basing of the F-35s. I believe that accusing a company of challenging conservative principles when in actuality they are doing what is best for their business is awful. The New York Times reports that the Kushner family real estate company obtained $500 million in loans from Citigroup and the private equity firm Apollo, both of whose executives met with Kushner at the White House last year. And the Washington Post reports that at least four countries -- United Arab Emirates, China, Israel, and Mexico -- have discussed ways they can manipulate Kushner “by taking advantage of his complex business arrangements, financial difficulties and lack of foreign policy experience.” Kushner cannot be permitted to remain in the White House.

Fear for the justice and integrity of our country, and the potential threat to our Democracy, to allow the POTUS the Power to Pardon when he/she is under legal investigation. Pardoning Power given to a potential criminal, and allowed to be used, interferes with the due process of the law and with the truth surfacing.

I live in a heavily polluted urban area, and I know first hand how important it is to protect the health of our communities. We owe our kids clean air and clean water, and we can't let them push this through.

In the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward Country, Florida., students who survived the attack have bravely stood up to demand action for safe schools and safe communities. But now, right-wing blogs are pushing wild conspiracy theories about the students who survived, claiming they are plants, are actors, or are being manipulated by politicians. I know these students. I have worked with these students. These courageous young people survived a horror beyond what any person should have to face, and now they stand with moral courage and strength to call us all to action. It is outrageous enough that outlets like the Gateway Pundit are spreading these lies and driving attacks on these students. But it is even more outrageous that an outlet that peddles lies and conspiracy theories holds a White House press credential and the authority that carries. By giving the Gateway Pundit press credentials, the White House is validating the site and these attacks. President Trump and this administration must make it clear that these attacks are unacceptable by pulling the Gateway Pundit’s credentials and permanently banning the site and its publishers from the White House. These students deserve our praise and our support. Their advocacy in the face of horror and violence is what makes America great. Instead, the Gateway Pundit is driving vicious personal attacks by peddling conspiracy theories. The White House must show that there are consequences for this kind of behavior. As the dairy industry’s profits plummet, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand plans to send millions of dollars in federal funding to failing dairy farms with her newly introduced Dairy Premium Refund Act. This industry subsidy initiative has arisen after previous industry insurance programs have failed. Dairy, however, is a cruel and unsustainable industry, which is not only abusive to animals, but is also unhealthy for both humans and the planet. The financial decline of the dairy industry is evidence that we should not support or fund it with our tax dollars. Rather, it is indicative that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the unhealthy and abusive practices inherent to dairy products and its production. If Senator Gillibrand respects taxpayers and wishes to help dairy farmers thrive and generate a sustainable economic model, she should encourage them to ditch dairy and produce plant-based products.
