Hijacking the Census? Not on our watch. The Trump Administration is launching an extraordinary attempt to hijack the 2020 census for political purposes. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross recently announced that he will add a question asking citizenship status to the 2020 U.S. census. Experts — from former census directors representing both Republican and Democratic administrations, 60 members of Congress, 161 Republican and Democratic mayors, 19 state attorneys general, more than 170 civil rights organizations, and prominent business leaders —agree this is a terrible idea. The inclusion of a citizenship question is likely to scare people of color and undocumented immigrants away from responding. This would result in a severe undercount of newer Americans — even Americans who have lived in the U.S. for decades, whose children and spouses are American citizens — and lead to unfair redistricting that would unduly benefit Republicans making the changes. This hijacking of the 2020 census must stop. Secretary Ross should uphold the government’s constitutional duty to count ALL people in EVERY part of the country — without adding unnecessary and overtly political questions that will scare people away.122 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Matt Hildreth

Fix the Electoral CollegeWhatever we may think about our current President, our Electoral College clearly failed to perform the function Madison and Hamilton had envisioned for it. Rather than override the will of the people when they chose a demagogue unqualified for high office, the Electoral College did precisely the opposite. It is time to admit that the Electoral College must enter the post-Civil War era.85 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Terry Allen

Require That Trump Cabinet Pay Taxpayers BackWe have watched Trump cabinet members steal taxpayer funds to finance exorbitant travel, furnishings, doors, and a sound booth for Mr. Pruitt. We must require that we receive proof that these cabinet members (Tom Price, Shulkin, Stephen Mnuchin, Ryan Zinke, Scott Prutt, Ben Carson and any others) have reimbursed the treasury fully for this rampant misuse of taxpayer dollars. Mr. Trump will not ever require this but someone in the White House or some other agency should be sending a collections agency after them for their kleptocracy.86 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Patricia Tescher

Investigate Steve Bannon and Cambridge Analytica's misconductCambridge Analytica, the GOP data firm in the news for stealing massive amounts of user data from Facebook, might be in even deeper legal trouble for violating campaign finance law -- and so could Steve Bannon, who ran Cambridge at the time. Common Cause just filed official federal complaints with the Department of Justice and Federal Election Commission, based on publicly available data that shows Cambridge and its employees repeatedly violated federal election law -- by letting foreign nationals participate in political expenditure-related decision-making of U.S. political committees in the 2014 and 2016 elections, including the Trump campaign, the John Bolton Super PAC and others. From our complaint: Cambridge "violated the federal law prohibition on foreign nationals 'directly or indirectly participat[ing] in the decision-making process of any . . . political committee . . . such as decisions concerning the making of . . . expenditures'" in connection with U.S. elections. That means Steve Bannon and his benefactor Rebekah Mercer -- who were running Cambridge at the time -- could be exposed to criminal prosecution for conspiracy or aiding and abetting these violations of our laws. We are a nation of laws, and our campaign finance laws must be enforced by the FEC and the Justice Department in order to safeguard the integrity of our elections from foreign interference. These companies and individuals ignored the law, enriched themselves performing millions of dollars of prohibited work for candidates and committees, and then boasted about the effectiveness of their activities in swaying U.S. elections. The laws Cambridge violated are meant to ensure a fair democracy where everyone plays by the rules -- and we must speak up for the rule of law. That's why it's of the utmost importance that the Federal Election Commission and Department of Justice fully investigate Cambridge Analytica's misconduct, and hold any and all wrongdoers accountable to deter future violations. End Oregon's Loan Shark BusinessThe interest rates charged on delinquent property taxes are excessive and a significant cause of homelessness. If circumstances prevent a person from the timely payment of property taxes, the 16% interest rate can put them in a hole from which they can never climb out.40 of 100 SignaturesCreated by MARC SHAPRIO

CNN: Never Interview Rick Santorum on TV AgainThe students organized the March for Our Lives to call on government to enact common sense gun restrictions. They were exercising their First Amendment rights to petition the governement for legislation so students and others are safe. Rick Santorum said they should instead take personal, individual responsibility including enrolling in CPR classes and learning ways to respond to mass shootings and not look to government or others to solve problems. Santorum should be dismissed forever as a CNN commentator and roundly condemned.6,949 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Kathleen Bird

Lets Make Sure Michael Williams & Michael Ramos never get to own another animal in the State of RIWe need to hold someone accountable. The system failed these dogs. This man was on probation and although he had a plea agreement, nobody ever checked up on him. There is a 3-dog maximum in Smithfield, so why was it allowed for him to get all 25-30 dogs back last year without provisions? Accountability Needs To Start Here & Now Regardless Of The "Laws."471 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Suzanne M Tassoni

Petition for Resignation of Donald Trump as POTUSAll Americans are at risk of nuclear war with North Korea. President Trump has been careless and negligent in his negotiations with the government of North Korea and has made threats to destroy the country. Corruption under President Trump has grown such that many Americans are wary about the effectiveness of heretofore effective measures ensuring fairness under the rule of law.141 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Richard G. Sign the pledge saying farm workers deserve overtimeThe farm worker movement is determined to address Jim Crow era discrimination against farm workers like the UFW’s huge 2016 victory in California that ensures the implementation of more inclusive regulations for farm workers starting in 2019. In California, overtime law for farm workers ensures farm workers will have an equal right to overtime pay and continues the process of reducing discrimination in employment laws against agricultural workers. The change started in California it is time to set this standard for the entire nation. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) was signed excluding farm workers from its overtime protections and this can no longer be justified or tolerated. It was wrong in 1938 and it is wrong now. A new proposal should be introduced in Congress shortly that would right this wrong and should be passed immediately. The UFW’s proposal would remedy the discriminatory denial of overtime pay and the minimum wage to all farm workers under current law. Farm workers deserve basic minimum wage and overtime protections like any other US worker. Workers in agriculture would be entitled to time-and-a-half pay for working more than 40 hours in a week. It would phase in overtime pay over a period of 4 years beginning in 2019; for employers with 25 or fewer employees, the phase-in will be delayed by three additional years. Itthat will be introduced in congress in the near future mirrors California’s phase-in requirement to ensure equity. This legislation eliminates most of the exemptions to the minimum wage for agricultural employers; although the family farm exemption would continue. We all want to feel good about the food we purchase and consume, and the continuing discrimination in employment laws against farm workers – the people who produce our food – contribute to a stain on our food system that must be stopped. Will you support farm workers? By signing the pledge you are committing to hold your representatives accountable to address this unjust exclusion of agricultural workers from the minimum wage and overtime pay.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jocelyn Sherman, UFW Digital Director
