Abdul El-Sayed is a Michigan born and raised physician and public health officer who is running to win the Democratic Party nomination for governor. A long anticipated explicit, xenophobic, Islamophobic, racist attack against Dr. El-Sayed was launched earlier this month. The hate speech did not come from a fringe organization but from Republican candidate for governor Patrick Colbeck. Mr. Colbeck made an unfounded outlandish accusation that Abdul was part of an extremist conspiracy to take over the country. According to Buzzfeed, he made those remarks at an event held by United West. The group has been classified as an “active anti-Muslim group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks the activity of hate organizations. “While it came as no surprise, we didn’t feel any less disgusted,” said Ayman Khafagi, the Vice Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) Progressive Caucus. “We believe that the comments are disqualifying and should not be tolerated.” Kelly Collison, the Chair of the MDP Progressive Caucus added: “We believe that we should stand in solidarity and boycott every entity that continues to associate with Mr. Colbeck. Mr. Colbeck and his like should have no place in politics.” The MDP Progressive Caucus condemns the Republican candidate’s remarks and calls upon all political entities to join us in standing up to bigotry.

Despite some of the most shocking mass shootings in American history, Mike Pence thinks it's a good idea to be a headliner at the NRA's convention in Dallas on May 4. It's scheduled to take place just days after police officers were critically wounded by a suspect at a Home Depot right there in Dallas. It's sad that Pence is so dismissive of the American lives lost in Las Vegas, Sutherland Springs, and Parkland—not to mention the thousands of people killed every month by gun violence. The majority of Americans want politicians to stop gun violence with common sense reforms. But rather than using his platform to advocate for peace and common sense safety, Mike Pence is rewarding extremists in the NRA. Trump, Pence, Ryan, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP seem happy to continue making excuses for gun violence because the NRA throws millions of dollars at their party. Enough! We must hold all politicians to basic standards of decency. Tell Mike Pence to drop out of the NRA's convention and stand with the majority of Americans who want real action to end gun violence.

It also takes away the ability to make income from their investment properties in Mound, MN. Short Term Rentals is a thriving industry that is bringing new and exciting ways into how you travel!

On April 26th the Truckee Planning Commission will decide whether or not Grocery Outlet can build a new store across Donner Pass Road from Safeway. Our community has demonstrated repeatedly in the last year that sustainability is a primary concern. This project is a step backward for town sustainability. It is redundant given our current options of Safeway, Savemart, and New Moon, not to mention the approved Raley’s and Railyard grocery stores. How many grocery stores does Truckee need? The project does not increase access to an under-served part of town and congests an already crowded thoroughfare. Nearby residents are legitimately concerned that their once sleepy residential streets will be used as an alternate access route. New projects should make the Town of Truckee more livable, not less.

Trump has destroyed the political norms of our country and it is up to us to be the beacon of what good governance can be. The first step a candidate can do to prove that they are not like Trump is to do what he didn't, release their taxes. Demonstrate to those they want to represent that they have no other interest but to better the lives of those they would represent.

A great American with great potential lived his short life as an amazing human being, a great wrestler bringing the USA seven Olympic and World medals, and a great family man. Everybody that knew Dave loved him and all who didn't know him wished they did! Let's commemorate him!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is trying to kill the bipartisan legislation to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump and his administration. We must speak out to stop him. The only way to force McConnell’s hand here is if his fellow Republicans call him out. At such a perilous moment for our democracy, every single senator must put country before party, and demand a fair up-or-down vote for the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act. Huge majorities of Americans think Mueller should conduct his investigation without presidential interference. That fact isn’t lost on the many GOP senators, who’ve said they agree with the American people that Trump would be crossing a red line by disrupting the investigation now. Now, it’s time for every single one of them to back up their words by putting country over party -- and demanding, in a public statement, that Mitch McConnell give this critically important legislation to protect Mueller the fair consideration it deserves. We have the votes to pass this bill -- if it gets a vote on the Senate floor. That’s where you come in: please join me in demanding that McConnell stop standing in the way. More recently though,he has lied under oath & committed treasonous acts in an effort to save Trump from being charged with multiple counts of treason & other crimes! Mitch McConnell's most recent act of obstruction is his trying to stop Robert Mueller's investigations of Trump's countless wrong doings! Mitch McConnell MUST be charged for his obstructions & MUST be locked up! We can't let him be above the law!

A Kansas firefighter reportedly got his job back ahead of his trial for an incident where he allegedly spit on a 3-year-old and used a racial slur. Terrence Jeremy Skeen, 42, is back at work at the Kansas City Fire Department after his lawyers claim he was “suspended incorrectly,” according to the Kansas City Star. Skeen, however, still faces charges of battery, assault, and disorderly conduct in connection with a Feb. 26 altercation at a local Hooters. The firefighter is accused of threatening to shoot a black customer, hurling the N-word at him and spitting on his 3-year-old grandson at the restaurant. The tot’s grandfather, Raymond L. Harris, said that the boy briefly wandered away when another patron told him that Skeen spit on the child. “You need to get that f—ing girl and take her back to the other side where you came from,” Skeen allegedly shouted at Harris from across the restaurant. After correcting him on his grandson’s gender, Harris said that he asked him if he spit on the boy, according to the Kansas City Star. “F— you, you n—-r,” Skeen reportedly said to him. “I will spit on you. F— you! I will shoot you!” Skeen’s lawyers denied the accusations to the newspaper and said that his story “will all come out at the trial.”

We deserve a fair, accurate Census in 2020 -- but the Trump administration is trying to rig it for political gain. By law, the Census must count everyone who lives within the borders of our country, regardless of their citizenship status. But Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s decision to include a question on citizenship threatens that constitutional requirement and politicizes this process. Plus, it'll make the 2020 Census undercount communities of color and others who feel intimidated by Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric -- by discouraging them from participating at all. And since we use Census data to draw legislative districts, it’ll amplify the harm of gerrymandering -- keeping fair representation in government out of reach for too many of us. An accurate Census is essential in the redrawing of our congressional and legislative districts and budgeting decisions that impact our schools, hospitals, roads, and veterans. The Trump administration’s decision threatens the accuracy of data we use as nation to make essential decisions about our children’s future. There’s a clear political motive here -- Donald Trump was fundraising off the prospect of a citizenship question just last week. Systematically undercounting our nation’s Latino population and other communities of color would tilt the balance of power towards Republicans for the next decade. This is just the latest attempt by the Trump administration to intimidate, threaten, and silence people of color -- and it shouldn’t happen in 21st century America. We must speak out now to ensure an accurate 2020 Census, without a politically motivated question on citizenship that will suppress legitimate responses. Send your message now.
