Confront Facebook on RussiaI'm angry and feeling complicit myself as we all see the choices Facebook has made, yet continue using and supporting them day after day. I think at the very least we should consider a three-day moratorium.23 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rita J Townsend

Repeal the century-old "Jones Act" for Puerto RicoWith hurricane Maria's devastation of Puerto Rico, the Jones Act does hurt recovery and the rebuild effort. Written 100 years ago, it does not apply to todays circumstances. The infrastructure of the Electric grid and the Puerto Rican debt is caused by this act. Its time to behave like its 2017 and not 1917. Make the change now and do what is right by the elimination of the Jones Act and our U.S. Territory for our Puerto Rican Families.381 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Matthew Naylor

Congress: Cancel Puerto Rico's debt now!Last week, Puerto Rico survived the worst hurricane it's experienced in almost a century. This climate catastrophe has taken a toll on the island -- entire towns are flooded, potable water and other essential resources are running out, and it's predicted the island will be without electricity for months. Mainland Puerto Ricans haven't been able to communicate with their loved ones, and many are still being rescued. This is a humanitarian crisis that's being made worse by a deepening economic crisis. Hedge fund billionaires own much of Puerto Rico's debt -- they've been pushing for painful austerity measures while pressuring Puerto Rico to continue borrowing from Wall Street. These hedge funders have contributed nothing to the Puerto Rican people and are only interested in using the island as an ideal tax haven. Puerto Ricans are hurting. Those on the island are being made to suffer through no fault of their own while hedge funders profit from our pain. This is a crisis and Congress cannot wait to take action. While our representatives decide on passing an aid bill, they must take action to forgive Puerto Rico's debt once and for all. Join me today in demanding that Congress cancel Puerto Ricans and stop the continued abuse by hedge fund vultures by forgiving Puerto Rico's debt.4,515 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Genny Roman

Close this loophole: online political ad transparencyEvery American has the right know who is trying to influence our elections and public policy. That means new revelations that Russian agents covertly bought Facebook ads to influence the election should spark the passage of comprehensive and long overdue legislation requiring full disclosure of the people, businesses, and groups using online ads to influence our votes. Our laws already require disclosure of the people and groups behind some of the political ads we receive in the mail or over the internet, as well as those we see on television, hear on the radio, and read in our newspapers and magazines. Candidates must personally vouch on the air for TV and radio ads placed by their campaign committees. Unfortunately, however, there are plenty of gaps in the disclosure requirements. Conservative groups like Americans for Prosperity and liberal organizations like the House Majority PAC must put their names on the ads they sponsor, but the money that pays for the ads may be funneled to them through other nonprofit groups that are allowed to hide their donors. Facebook’s announcement that it’s changing the way it handles political advertising is good news, but no cause for celebration. Stung by stories about how the site sold political advertising to Russian interests last year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a self-regulation regimen that may quiet the social network’s critics and placate lawmakers alarmed about hidden foreign meddling in U.S. elections. But while Zuckerberg’s maneuver may be good for Facebook’s bottom line, it falls far short of what Americans need to protect our elections. Rather than placating Congress and the public, it should spark the passage of comprehensive and long overdue legislation requiring full disclosure of the people, businesses, and groups using online ads to influence our votes. Our elected leaders have an obligation to put country over party and strengthen the resiliency of our democracy. Please add your name today.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause

Boycott Trump Golf CoursesPres. Trump understands boycotts. Let his attack on privately owned US businesses and their employees be redressed with a boycott of his "athletic" properties.27 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rose

Trump does not own the NFLLast year, Donald Trump said he would "love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired.'" And recently, he doubled down and is calling for them to be deported!? Trump continues to attack professional athletes who choose to express their beliefs when they are different than his own. The rights of every American are threatened by our president's unconstitutional acts.259 of 300 SignaturesCreated by David Vinch

Proposed law re: Presidential expenses exempted from payment by US taxpayersI'm so tired of Trump & the GOP members of Congress giving lip-service to their "concerns" about the "high cost of Obamacare," which they are trying to "improve" by cutting the funds that have allowed millions of poor and elderly to (finally) have had access to affordable care! How about the high costs of Trump's frequent golf vacations at OUR EXPENSE?!!30 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bette Kisner

Oppose $700 Billion in Defense SpendingThis is a fiscally reckless bill voted in favor by 89% of the Senate. We need this money for other programs and to help reduce the federal deficit. It is not in line with our priorities to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for our nation. U.S. Defense spending is already humongous and accounts for more than a third of all military spending in the entire world and is more than three times what China spends. Additionally, we already possess a huge nuclear arsenal as a deterrent. To put the amount in perspective, $80 billion annually could eliminate undergraduate tuition costs at all 4-year public colleges and universities. Our politicians must break free of the dominating influence and power of the weapons industry and choose to use our taxpayer money for the benefit of our people. This can only happen if the voices of the people push back now on this misguided direction. Our future depends upon it.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony Marcelli

Gov. Malloy: Don't hand Connecticut's democracy to wealthy special interests!Politicians in Hartford are trying to hand our democracy over to big money interests. Together, we can stop them -- take action now. The legislature has passed a budget that would eliminate our state's landmark Citizens' Election Program (CEP). We can't let that happen -- the CEP helps regular people run for office without relying on special interest money, and sets an example for the rest of the nation. Since its establishment in 2005, the Citizens' Election Program has helped ensure more competitive elections, and a more diverse and representative legislature in Hartford. Rolling back this vital program now would hand over our democracy to wealthy special interests -- and we'll all pay the price. This is an all hands on deck moment -- and I know we can stop this attack on our democracy if we all speak out.43 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause
