• Assm Cunningham: Justice Scalia was right about the need for disclosure
The Supreme Court was horribly wrong in their Citizens United decision that there can't be any limits on corporate spending in political campaigns. But Justice Scalia did get one thing absolutely right when he said we need disclosure or else “democracy is doomed”. AB 249, the California DISCLOSE Act, will strike the biggest blow yet against the secret money unleashed by Citizens United, by requiring initiative ads to clearly show their real top 3 funders so everyone knows who’s trying to buy their vote. AB 249 faces its final votes next week. Republican Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham is a crucial vote. Please sign and share to ask him to vote “Yes”!

  • Make Seattle a Trump-Free Zone!
Seeing that Chicago recently banned Donald Trump from the city (see http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/chicago-mayor-trump-free-zone-rahm-emanuel-daca-dreamers-programme-us-president-sanctuary-city-a7931646.html for details), we are inspired to similarly declare Seattle a Trump-Free Zone until he can prove that he can honor the human rights of all who live here. His rescinding of the DACA program is one example of his many harmful policies, and such backwards acts will not be tolerated in Seattle!

  • Rep. Will Hurd: Stand With Dreamers, Co-sponsor Dream Act
Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX23) is a key vote on the Dream Act, as his district includes a border town in Texas with thousands of Dreamers. But, despite the looming deadline for DACA-recipients, he has yet to co-sponsor and support it publicly! As local Texas Dreamers, immigrant youth, and allies ramp up visits to his offices, make phone calls, and turn up the heat, we need to show him that we have their back and want a clean Dream Act -- and his co-sponsorship, now. Not only is the Dream Act the morally right thing to do, new studies by the Center for American Progress show that it could boost the US economy by up to *$1 trillion* in just 10 years. $1 trillion. The Dream Act has been bipartisan for over a decade, but the ugly politics of extremism are now standing in the way. When Trump rescinded DACA, 800,000 young people were left in the cross-hairs of a brutal deportation system that could rip them away from their friends, families, schools, communities, and employers, all of whom are counting on them. The backlash has been loud, but now it is up to make sure that outrage turns into real action for immigrant youth and all Americans, who stand to benefit from this critical bill. Will you add your name to ask Rep Hurd to co-sponsor and pass a clean Dream Act, immediately?

  • Tell Congress to protect DACA and pass real immigration reform
Congress needs to demonstrate real leadership and protect our families from being torn apart. Our president’s decision to end DACA is unconscionable. No one is served by policies that tear families apart.

  • Fire Salt Lake Detective Jeff Payne
We all by now have seen the video of Det. Jeff Payne placing Nurse Wubbels in handcuffs for doing her job. He was not doing his. He was in fact violating the oath he took after graduating the police academy. He violated her civil rights. He was attempting to violate the civil rights of an unconscious patient. For these egregious offenses WOW he was put on paid administrative leave. *Vox reports that he's only been suspended from the phlebotomy unit, he's still working cases. Not Acceptable! Not good enough any longer. Not good enough for Salt Lake City, New York City, or the city of Baltimore, not good enough for the United States. It is time that police officers are forced to do their duties not just to protect the citizens but to serve them too. The National Fraternal Order of Police won't stop it. It's up to MoveOn members to do it.

  • Don't let Congress gut Mueller's Russia investigation!
One Member of Congress is trying to use the government funding process to attack Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether or not the President and his campaign team were involved in Russia’s attempts to interfere in our elections. We can't let the rest of Congress go along with him. Last week, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) introduced an amendment to a major spending bill that would end funding for Mueller's investigation after 180 days -- and prevent the probe from looking into anything that happened before Trump made a formal announcement for his campaign in July 2015. The proposal cuts against our commitment to the rule of law -- 80% of Americans believe Mueller should be allowed to finish his investigation. And there are multiple bills before Congress with bipartisan support that would protect Mueller from presidential interference. But Congress has a bad habit of rolling unrelated ideological proposals like this into must-pass legislation in order to push through their pet proposals. Now, Rep. DeSantis is trying to use the threat of a funding crisis to deny Americans the answers we deserve about Russian election meddling. Our representatives in Congress have a duty to hold the executive branch accountable -- not abuse the legislative process to cover for him. Congress must pass a clean spending bill without ideological riders and does not obstruct or limit the scope of Special Counsel Mueller's probe.

  • Colorado: Tell Senator Gardner to reject Sam Clovis as the USDA's top scientist
Sam Clovis is blatantly unqualified for the top scientist job at the USDA. He’s a political operative and former talk radio host, not a scientist. Clovis has said climate science is “junk science.” He also has a history of racist rants, including calling progressives “race traders and race traitors." And he’s vocally against fair wages for working people. It has also been revealed that Clovis is vehemently against civil rights protections for the LGBT community. This is someone who shouldn’t be in any sort of leadership position -- let alone running key federal programs to protect our food system. Tell Senator Gardner to reject Clovis to lead the USDA's science program!
