• Change Veterans' Service Dog Certification process.
I am in the process of having my dog Molly, trained by a Certified Professional Trainer to become my Service Animal. In September the Department of Veterans Affairs set a policy that will affect me and thousands of Veterans who will be obtaining Service Animals to help them with their disabilities. The VA has chosen just two non profits, one of which is based in the UK, and is primary for Seeing Eye Animals, as the benchmark/certifiers of these animal to become eligible for insurance coverage benefits. By this standard you MUST qualify your animal with a less-than-100-member organization to be eligible for this benefit. These "qualified" organizations are proprietary to their animals and most will not "test" animals from non member trainers.

  • Make Veterans Day a Federal Holiday for all Veterans
Many of us have first-hand knowledge of the sacrifices that our veterans have experienced. For countless veterans, the sacrifices continue. Veterans Day is the day that we as a nation honor our veterans. Yet, veterans employed in the private sector compete for this day off with their non-veteran counterparts. Those veterans are required to use their accrued time off. All veterans should have this day off without reservation.

  • Don't let Chris Christie stop automatic voter registration!
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie just vetoed his state's Democracy Act, a bill which would have automatically registered eligible voters at the DMV, adding up to 1.6 million voters to the rolls, among other crucial voting rights reforms. The Governor’s veto is a step in the wrong direction. But right now, the Senate is considering the REGISTER Act, a federal bill sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) that would make automatic voter registration the law of the land. Its companion bill – the Automatic Voter Registration Act (introduced by Rep. Cicilline (D-RI)) – is before House members. In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to gut the Voting Rights Act, and an ensuing wave of anti-voter restrictions across the states, we need reforms like this one to engage every eligible American in our democracy. Oregon and California are leading the way, bringing millions of eligible voters onto the rolls. Now, call on your senators to follow their lead and co-sponsor the REGISTER and/or Automatic Voter Registration Acts to bring automatic voter registration nationwide.

  • Help Defend Democracy
With a democratic form of government, the people have the say in who is elected into government office. Then, these elected officials make decisions based on what the people want, and in the best interest of majority of people. Also, people who have a voice in the government are more likely to be up to date on issues that are happening nationally and globally.

  • Pass a PA budget that funds schools NOW!
I work hard everyday. Six days a week, I get up and go to work, and right now I feel like a fool. My whole life, I have been able to trust that generally, when you work, you get paid. The PA budget impasse for the last 4+ months means that I don't know when I'm going to get paid for my work since last July 1. I'm not sure what to do. There seems to be no end in sight. Maybe I need to barter: speech therapy for a chicken? Speech therapy for fuel? Speech therapy for my insulin?

  • Tell Congress: CEOs got a raise. Seniors & veterans deserve one too.
Two-thirds of retirees depend on Social Security to pay for the basics, to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads – but seniors who usually get a small boost on January 1st won’t see an extra dime next year. The Seniors and Veterans Emergency Benefits Act (SAVE Benefits Act), cosponsored by Elizabeth Warren, Barbara Mikulski, Patty Murray, Chuck Schumer, Bill Nelson, Debbie Stabenow, Maria Cantwell, Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jeff Merkley, Kirsten Gillibrand, Al Franken, Dick Blumenthal, Chris Murphy, Mazie Hirono, Tammy Baldwin, and Ed Markey, would: - Provide seniors & veterans an emergency one-time 3.9% payment in 2016 (approx. $581/person). 3.9% is the average raise that America's top CEOs received last year. - Fully cover the cost of increased payments by closing the tax loophole that allows corporations to write off obscene executive bonuses as a business expense for “performance pay.” - Extend the life of Social Security by bolstering the Social Security and Disability trust funds. So let’s do it. Let’s close the loophole and let’s use the money to give seniors and vets the support they need on January 1st. Tell Congress that America supports the SAVE Benefits Act.

  • Legalize Research of Psychedelics
I am currently a sophomore psychology major in college, and my goal is to study psychedelic substances and their potential in treating mental illnesses such as PTSD, OCD, and depression. As of now, there are only two colleges I know of that have been granted permission to research these substances, and so far they have shown great success. The use of psychedelics under controlled circumstances needs to be unstigmatized, and it's research legalized, so that we can understand the full potential of these substances and their many benefits, and so students like me who may have the same goals have the opportunity to do their research.

  • Churches Should Pay Taxes
Churches get the benefit of taxpayer money in the form of military and police and fire protection. I am a free thinker – as such am part of a growing number of Americans who are not affiliated with any church. I feel that it is only fair that they pay real estate taxes to the state in which they are incorporated, as well as federal and state income taxes like everyone else. I hope the millions of Americans who feel as I do will support this petition.
