Parties shouldn't take lobbyist & PAC money! Our political parties should run their conventions on donations from "we, the people," not lobbyists and PACs. Democrats did that in 2012, but the Democratic National Committee just announced it will take money from PACs and lobbyists to fund its 2016 convention. Common Cause is calling on every candidate for president to demand a ban on PAC and lobbyist convention funding as a necessary step to change Washington's pay-to-play culture. With money taking more and more control of our system, any candidate who wants to be president needs a plan to put We The People back in charge — standing by in silence while PACs and lobbyists buy the national conventions would show a lack of commitment to this needed goal. But a candidate who took a bold stance against the party insiders, would distinguish himself or herself as a champion for reform. Democratic candidates should pressure on the DNC to reverse this capitulation to special interests. Republican candidates should demand that their party join in rejecting PAC and lobbyist money at their convention.134 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause

North Carolinans for Safe AccessNorth Carolina could benefit so much from legalization of cannabis... we have the 8th, 3rd, and 1st poorest cities in all of America according to the last few years of census data. Unemployment is ridiculously high in the state. Legalizing cannabis would create thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in revenue, and most importantly, save or greatly improve lives. Even if you're against complete legalization so that anybody could use it (like alcohol which has been proven in countless studies to be significantly more damaging than marijuana) at least allow people who have genuine medical conditions who could benefit from it to have access to it. At least give North Carolina hope for a better tomorrow.55 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jon

Tell Ted Cruz: no elected Supreme Court!Ted Cruz just chaired a hearing in the Senate about his idea to subject Supreme Court justices to retention elections, saying it'd curtail "judicial activism." But one look at the states that elect their Supreme Court justices shows the dangers of Cruz's proposal. Forcing judges to run for re-election puts them at the mercy of outside groups and special interest donors. It invites corporate front groups to flood the elections with money to stack the benches with judges who'll see cases their way -- regardless of what's right. Our founders intended for courts to be truly independent, able to make politically unpopular decisions -- like those that desegregated our schools, guaranteed a woman's right to choose and provided marriage equality -- and to operate outside of traditional electoral politics. Ted Cruz should abandon his extreme proposal and focus on proven reforms, like judicial codes of ethics and merit selection, to build a fair, impartial judiciary.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause

Prevent massacre of feral cats in AustraliaOn July 16, 2015, the Australian government unveiled its plan to kill two million feral cats by 2020. While the problem they are targeting is real and serious (scientists say that they are a primary factor behind the extinction of at least 29 indigenous mammal species in Australia), the solution of poisioning the cats is barbaric to say the least. Efforts should be made to find a more humane solution, working with animal rights advocates, agencies, shelters, and rescues to spay/neuter and adopt out those that are healthy and spare as many as possible from a horrible death. This holocaust should be stopped.2,140 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Karen Hutchins

"Under god" and "In god we trust" is unconstitutional. Let's remove it.I am starting this petition because it's time that religions learn they don't own marriage, education, morality or our country. WE ALL DO. We don't all trust in a God. Don't force us to live that way. Also we should be able to hold public office, and be married without a religious official. WE ARE AMERICANS TOO.337 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Laura Besh

National Parks & Monuments Please Sell Goods Made in the United States of AmericaMy family spent all of Summer 2014 touring our amazing country, logging close to 15,000 miles by minivan. We stopped at numerous National Parks and Monuments, and a few Presidential Libraries that my mother wanted to see for the first time. At each spot, we wanted to purchase a souvenir. To our disappointment and dismay, it was challenging to find anything produced domestically. We love our global neighbors, but it is saddening to think of slapping a Grand Canyon magnet manufactured in China on my fridge to represent an American Treasure.12 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mary Gelstin

Investigate Scott Walker and Wisconsin Supreme Court JusticesIn a recent decision, the Wisconsin Supreme Court stopped the John Doe investigation into Gov. Scott Walker for Campaign Finance Law violations. However, it has been reported that the majority opinion was written by and supported by Supreme Court Justices Michael Gableman, David Prosser, Patience Roggensack and Annette Ziegler--each of whom have received donations from the very campaign organizations that Scott Walker is accused of colluding with in the John Doe investigation. It is thus clear that these four justices failed to disqualify themselves due to conflict of interest under Federal Law 28 U.S.C. § 455. There is reasonable cause to believe their ability to remain impartial is substantially hindered by their vested financial interest in those being investigated.8,358 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Kristoffer Jay Martin

Demand strong recusal standards for all judges! The Wisconsin Supreme Court recently ended the investigation of possible illegal activity between Scott Walker's 2011-2012 recall campaign and outside special interest groups. Four of the justices of the court were the beneficiaries of dark money spent in their behalf and which was the heart of this case. They should have recused themselves and did not. This type of behavior can happen all across the country: in Wisconsin, many states and the U.S. Supreme Court, it is up to the court itself to adopt recusal rules. Demand that judges adopt strong rules and abide by them to ensure our courts are fair and impartial.233 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause

Demand strong recusal standards for the Wisconsin Supreme CourtThe Wisconsin Supreme Court recently ended the investigation of possible illegal activity between Scott Walker's 2011-2012 recall campaign and outside special interest groups. Now Wisconsinites and the rest of the American people will never know if Scott Walker and his campaign engaged in illegal activity during 2011-2012! Four of the justices of the court (Michael Gableman, David Prosser, Patience Roggensack and Annette Ziegler) were the beneficiaries of dark money spent in their behalf — and dark money was at the heart of this case. These judges should have recused themselves and did not. In Wisconsin, it is up to the court itself to adopt recusal rules, which they voted against doing not long ago. Demand that they adopt strong rules and abide by them to ensure our courts are fair and impartial.307 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause
