  • Tell the Presidential Candidates - "End Mass Incarceration in the United States"
This petition will be delivered to all declared candidates for President. Here are some basic facts about the rate of incarceration in the United States: +The incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. +While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners. +The U.S. incarcerates more people than any other nation - 2,217,000 people. +African Americans constitute nearly 1 million of the total incarcerated population, and have nearly six times the incarceration rate of whites. +A black male born in 1991 has a 29% chance of spending time in prison at some point in his life. +One out of nine African American men will be incarcerated between the ages of 20 and 34. +These numbers would be even higher if we included military facilities, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, facilities contracted by the U.S. Marshals Service, jails in Indian country, or juvenile facilities.

  • Remove The Confederate Flag From the SC Statehouse Grounds
Alexander Stephens, the Vice President of the Confederate States of America explained in his inaugural speech the founding values of the Confederacy. He said, "our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition". The Confederate States of America's most popular symbol should not be flown on the state house grounds. The Confederate flag's display at the central law making institution in South Carolina is unethical, especially amidst concerns of racial injustice nationwide.

  • Stop Jade Helm 15
I think the military can train on their bases. We don't need surprise training in our neighborhoods. What is the reasoning behind this? Is this one of the reasons we as a nation started a revolution against the British? Stop this now, America.

  • Let's MOVE ON to REAL Progressive politics!
I have been a US Senate candidate as a Democrat and know that trying to unseat a fake progressive is an almost impossible task because of Party politics. This country needs a viable, pleasantly aggressive progressive to run for U.S. President. We have potential choices. Senator Sanders is an Independent but caucuses with Democrats and is about as left as they get for the most part. Governor O'Malley is a reasonably left, progressive choice as well. This petition is about changing the conversation from the media and Party picking our candidates and telling us to pick the 'shoe-in', vs we the people picking who runs the White House in the next 4 years. Lets see if MoveOn will help or hinder here. I hope you sign this in droves. I encourage you to help make this petition successful. Change the conversation.

  • Full and Pure Democracy in the U.S.
My reasons for doing so should be self-evident. We common people need to wrest control of the Federal government from the hands of the one per cent wealthy on Wall Street and in the Pentagon who are hell-bent on turning the U.S. into a plutocratic oligarchy--something akin to Western Europe during the age of feudalism. We common people need and demand nothing less than full and pure democracy as classical Athens, Greece invented it.

  • Recall Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake
Because of the lack of leadership and planning, the city of Baltimore is in a state of emergency. We have police hurt, businesses burned down, and youth put into the criminal system over this. Good leadership was not in place and could have saved the city and state millions of dollars.

  • Stand with Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown: Urge President Obama to release the full text of t...
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown have been at the forefront of the fight against the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal—so much so that they were attacked repeatedly by the Obama Administration last week, being called "dishonest" and accused of spreading "misinformation" by President Obama himself. The TPP—which has been called "NAFTA on steroids"—is a trade agreement that could potentially affect 40% of the world economy. Progressives in the U.S. and around the world have been fighting it for years. And, years into the fight, the content of the deal is still being kept secret from the public. Now, TPP advocates are closer than ever to rushing this deal through Congress. Both houses of Congress could vote on what are called "fast track" bills in early May. If these pass, it would give lawmakers only 90 days for an up-or-down, yes-or-no vote to ratify the entire treaty—and take away any power to change its provisions. If President Obama wants the support of the American public and the progressive allies who helped elect him, he should make the text of the TPP available for public review before Congress votes to approve Fast Track authority. His predecessor George W. Bush made his trade agreement texts public—it's the least President Obama can do.

  • Impeach Governor Paul LePage
The Governor of Maine is using his executive powers to circumvent the will of the people of Maine by withholding bond monies to extort the ability to harvest wood from our state forests. He has indicated a desire to change the constitution in an effort to prevent future administrations from ever changing legislation he implements.      Many of these changes are unsupported by the attorney general because they are not legal. As a result, he wishes to change the system so that the attorney general is no longer part of the legislative process as it now stands.  Now, it's come to light that Governor Paul LePage blackmailed a private, nonprofit school for at-risk youth into firing one of his political opponents. By his own admission, he threatened to cut state funding for the Good Will-Hinckley school because it hired Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves to be its president. The school in turn fired Speaker Eves. Four Maine lawmakers, including a Republican, two independents, and one Democrat, have formally requested that the Legislature's oversight committee launch a formal investigation. Attorney General Janet Mills said she is “very troubled” by the governor's actions. The Portland Press Herald, our state's largest newspaper, has called on the Legislature to consider impeachment. Unless new facts emerge that somehow absolve the governor despite his own admissions, he should be impeached and tried in the state Senate. It's time to hold Gov. LePage accountable.

  • Lockdown the Washington State Legislature to Fund K-12 Education
The Washington State Legislature has ignored both an order from the state Supreme Court and Initiative 1351 passed by the voters to fully fund K-12 education as mandated by the State Constitution. It is in their power to create a tax system that can fully fund all education and other state services that are needed in Washington state.
