Sharing the painIf the lawmakers had to feel the full effects of their actions, they might not be so inclined to do things that negatively affect their constituents. Since we can't easily hold new elections to oust them, let's ask them to share our pain.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tracy Neal

Hold Elected Officials AccountableOur country is facing many challenges that, if not addressed with good will, courage and intelligence, threaten to greatly impact our quality of life. It is with increasing frustration and disgust that I watch our elected officials play partisan politics, line their own pockets and spend inordinate amounts of time raising money for their reelection campaigns while ignoring these challenges. Now as we embark on our second partial government shut down in my adult life, I say ENOUGH ! We, the people, deserve better representation.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Paula Bojarsky

No pay for Congress during government shutdownAs Americans, we should all be concerned about the health and well-being of the children and elderly in this country. Holding up funding for the food stamp program for women and children is a disgrace. Some radicals in Congress seem to think women and children can go without food. Well, then those Congressmen and Congresswomen, and their families, should go without a paycheck. In addition, there are children in this country who have serious illnesses and are being denied the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that might save their lives. How can we credibly criticize Syria for gassing innocent citizens, including children, when we are taking political and economic actions in this country that may have dire, perhaps even life or death consequences for some of our most vulnerable citizens? Some of our legislators are completely out of touch with the majority of American people. Let them feel the pinch of their irresponsible actions, too. The Affordable Care Act is a legitimate law--passed according to rules laid out in the Constitution of the United States--and supported by the Supreme Court. This lawful act is not a legitimate topic for budget negotiations. I am tired of a very small group of radical, ideological Tea Party members ruining our country. I confidently predict they will be voted out of office in the next election. Until then, they ought to forfeit their income as long as they act to keep the government shut down. Please do your part to help--sign this petition!749 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Carol and John Stolte

Calling all Clergy and Lay LeadersI, and others, are extremely outraged at Congressional Republicans across the country who are responsible for shutting down the government. Their reckless and irresponsible scheme has put Social Security checks for American senior citizens at risk, threatens veterans' benefits for our men and women in uniform, delays many government programs vital to the middle class, and impacts student loans--all in the name of a Tea Party crusade to shut down the government and derail the Affordable Care Act. How many marginalized Americans will be hurt before Republicans finally denounce this radical right-wing crusade to re-fight the health care battles of the past and devastate our national and global economy? Under a government shutdown, nearly 1.4 million active duty military personnel--two of which are our family members--would not be paid for their work until after the shutdown ends. Additionally, according to the Department of Defense, nearly half of the civilian workforce would not be paid during a government shutdown. This is immoral and disrespectful to American voters. For the Bible says pay unto ever man and woman what is due.345 of 400 SignaturesCreated by TJ WIlliams Hauger
