• Fund the 6 community centers still without air conditioning and proper water fountains!
On June 17,2015, my son was at the Shelby community center playing basketball when he suffered a heat stroke. He collapsed three times, hitting his head twice and losing control of his muscles and vision. Luckily his dad arrived and began pouring water on his head and ran him home to a cool bath before heading to the emergency room. The temperature in the gym was 105°and the water fountain only had hot water. He was treated at the hospital with iv fluids and underwent multiple tests. His headache is going on day three and he still has little strength and energy but otherwise was able to come home. This could have ended in tragedy and the next child might not be lucky enough to recover so well. When I contacted metro parks I discovered that Shelby center was one of 6 centers that still had not been upgraded with a/c and proper fountains. Since budget and funding are the only things keeping these centers from being upgraded, we need more funding allotted to these centers immediately. No child's life should be in jeopardy in a place created to be a safe environment for them and no amount of money will ever be worth the loss of life that could occur.

  • Charleston: Brokenhearted, we stand with you
Last night, 21-year-old Dylann Roof entered Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina and asked to sit with Pastor Clementa Pinckney. After one hour, Roof stood up and opened fire, fatally shooting 9 Black people. It is hard to make sense of such an unspeakable tragedy, to know what to do in the face of such vile terrorism. Our hearts and minds are with the families and loved ones of those killed, survivors and the AME community at large as they begin the long and difficult journey towards healing. Yesterday's massacre confirms that for Black communities, there is no safe haven from the violence and brutality of racism, not even a house of worship. In the coming days there will be much work to do to address the root causes of this tragedy and to secure justice for those who lost their lives, but today we stand with our community and the families in grief and mourning over this devastating event. Will you sign the card below to support the survivors and family members of those killed? We will deliver your voices in person along with flowers.

  • KENTUCKY CEMETERY LEGISLATION
Kentucky citizens and consumers should be allowed the expectation that their loved ones will be treated with the same dignity and respect in death as they are in life. Kentucky State Law should provide regulated protection in upholding the sanctity of the handling and disposition of human remains and the preservation of final resting places. Ky law should require and ensure that ALL deceased be accorded equal treatment and respect for human dignity without reference to ethnic origins, cultural backgrounds, or religious affiliations. The cemetery industry and operations in Kentucky, should be declared to affect the public health, safety, and well-being of its citizens and to be subject to regulation and control in the public interest. The FTC monitors and regulates funeral homes, but cemetery legislation is nearly "non-existent"

  • Equality California: Endorse Senator Sanders for president
Senator Bernie Sanders has the longest history of supporting all forms of equality of any candidate running for president of the United States. He has opposed discrimination since he entered politics. He opposed DOMA in 1996, cosponsored a Constitutional Amendment for equal rights by gender in 2001. and has a 100% rating from the HRC and 93% from the ACLU. Senator Sanders has the longest history of supporting equality, and I believe all equality advocacy organizations should endorse Senator Sanders for president.

  • It's not about race, It's about integrity!
We are writing to address the recent breaking news stories that has inundated our community involving the current chair of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. Although we cannot make official comments on the validity of allegations, we feel that until the investigation is complete and she resolves her issues that she take a leave of absence as President. We do not feel that she is in a position to properly reflect the values of our diverse community or the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. The questions surrounding her integrity may discredit the work that has been previously done to better the movement of social justice and equality in our community. We would not like to see partnerships that have previously been built to be severed as organizations and their representatives distance themselves from the impact of the allegations against the President specifically. Although, we do not speak on behalf of all the members of the community, we share the feelings of a significant number. As she has become the face of the NAACP locally, we have no doubt that the current climate may cause people to question the overall credibility of the organization and it’s systems used to select officers and its members. We are saddened by the NAACP's statement to support dishonesty and failure to apologize or acknowledge the communities impacted.

  • Proclaim June 21 as ASK Day
In America, one out of three homes with children has a gun, and nearly 1.7 million children live in a home with a loaded, unlocked gun. Every year thousands of kids are killed and injured as a result. The ASK (Asking Saves Kids) Campaign promotes a simple idea with the potential to help keep kids safe. It encourages parents to ask if there are unlocked guns in the homes where their children play. Parents ask all sorts of questions before their children visit other homes. They ask about pets in the house, discuss allergies and Internet access, and ask questions about supervision. ASK encourages parents to add one more question to this conversation: “Is there an unlocked gun in your house?” It’s a simple question, but it has the power to save a child’s life. 9 children and teens are shot each day in gun accidents 1 in 3 homes with children have guns, many left unlocked or loaded 80% of unintentional firearm deaths of kids under 15 occur in a home Every parent cares about the safety of their children. ASK allows parents to play an active role in keeping kids safe. Any parent can make a difference by asking and encouraging others to do the same. For more than a decade, the ASK Campaign has partnered with over 400 grassroots organizations to spread its message in neighborhoods nationwide. The ASK Campaign is a collaboration between the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the American Academy of Pediatrics who promotes the ASK message to its 62,000 members across the country. • MoveOn should support Bernie Sanders
Since discontinuing the Run WARREN Run campaign, we the undersigned would like MoveOn to petition it's member as to whether or not MoveOn should endorse Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination in 2016.
