  • Put a stop to closing down historical sites in North Carolina
Recently the Governer and State Legislature have been attempting to close down famous historical sites around the State to "save money". One of the main reasons my wife and I moved to the state seven years ago was because North Carolina placed an emphasis on it's very interesting history. We moved from California, where we had both resided all of our lives. One of the reasons we moved from the state was because California had lost it's soul as a result of getting rid of similar programs in that state. Several years ago Downtown Asheville, NC was a "ghost town". Instead of tearing down the old boarded up buildings the city fathers decided to renovate these buildings and make the downtown area into a tourist Mecca. It was a brilliant idea. Most of the old Multi story buildings opened shops and restaurants on the first floor. The upper floors were converted into condos or apartments to encourage a growing population in the downtown area. Subsequently, Downtown Asheville has grown into a thriving city unto itself and became a successful tourist area. Part of the charm of the area has been it's emphasis on the history of the area and the friendliness of it's occupants. Los Angeles, California took a different direction. They tore down the old and replaced it with cheaper, less interesting buildings. Nobody goes to downtown L..A. because it has no "charm". It's inhabited mostly by "projects", is unfriendly, even hostile, and dirty.

  • Deadbeat Dad or Deadbeat System?
At first glance you may be telling yourself that “This issue doesn’t apply to me.” However it affects ALL tax paying citizens! There are billions of dollars of uncollected child support owed in this country and those costs are passed on to you, the tax payer. For example, if a parent who is not receiving child support is forced to get State assistance YOU are paying for that. You as a tax payer are in essence paying that person’s child support! This is a very important issue that has yet to gain national focus. We routinely hear about making sure our children get a good education, good health care and safe schools (which all SHOULD be at the very top of the list) however somewhere on that list we need to also have a conversation about making sure these children receive the financial support that they need and are entitled to which gives them the much needed stability at home before they even get to school. So this is not an issue for parents, grandparents or guardians that are providing for these children, it’s an issue for all Americans! “National alarm bells should be ringing over the shocking fact that ONLY 41 percent of custodial parents receive their full allotment of child support”. (According to America’s Child Support Scandal at http://blogs.lawyers.com) YOU/WE are paying for the rest! This petition is to demand that State and Federal Child Support Enforcement Agencies be required to uphold and enforce their own policies and procedures. Even if you still feel that you are not directly affected by this issue I am sure that you have a friend or family member who is. Lets close the loop-holes for the evaders of child support AND close our pockets! If you or someone you know is not receiving the proper support from your Child Support Enforcement Agency or you would just like to voice your opinion to support hard working families and their children and to support good use of your tax dollars, please sign this petition today! Let’s request a national overhaul of the child support system. Sign this petition so that the voices of the many children of parents who are “making-do” can be heard! Let them know that we are not satisfied with “making- do” and we want you to “Make it Happen NOW!” Please read on AND SIGN THIS VERY IMPORTANT PETITION!

  • Amend the Washington Discover Pass for Rafters
Rafters entering the river system in Idaho or Oregon coming out at Heller Bar after being on the water several days should not have to be subjected to the expensive parking fee at Heller Bar. There should be fee, I agree, but the absence of pay phones, no cell service or wifi, no security and the lack of clean, stocked restrooms there, make the high fee ridiculous. The annual fee is 35.00, and river rafting can be a dangerous sport. Please reexamine this fee for out of state folks that DO NOT WANT the annual pass but need to have their cars delivered earlier JUST IN CASE they need to come out early.

  • Protect Low Income and Middle Income Americans
Nevadans need to support all U.S. Senators; U.S. House of Representatives; President Barach Obama; all Nevada State legislature members that support a balanced budget in Nevada and in the U.S. Congress that protects low and middle income families; senior citizens; disabled people; and children! They need to protect Medicare; Medicaid; Food Stamps; WIC; Headstart; Student Loans; Veterans benefits; HUD low income housing; job training; infrastructure investment in our highways, bridges, roads, schools, teachers, policeman, and fireman. This sounds like a tall order but there are billions of dollars that can be saved and used to pay for the above benefits by closing tax loopholes on the wealthiest Americans and Corporations. All businesses sending jobs out of America should have their profits taxed higher than businesses that keep jobs in America! My husband and I live in HUD low income Senior housing in Henderson, Nevada. We live on my Clark County, Nevada PERS pension and our Social Security benefits. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran. I am on Medicare and Medicaid and Food Stamps. We need to take care of our most vulnerable Americans; not the wealthiest Americans and Corporations! Ed and Lois Denaut, Henderson, Nevada
