Right now, President Trump has frozen $2.3 billion in federal funding to Harvard University and is attempting to end their tax-exempt status.   Why? Because Harvard had the courage to stand up to Trump’s attacks on the free speech of their faculty and students.  It’s not just Harvard – Trump has put billions of federal dollars under threat unless universities comply with his outrageous, politicized demands. That’s right – he’s trying to force universities to remove academic departments from faculty control, “audit” the viewpoints of students and faculty, and help federal authorities as they target international students for detention and deportation. Now, America’s universities are standing up for their rights, and ours. Over 150 university presidents across the U.S. have come together to speak out against Trump’s attacks. Retailer giants like Amazon have the reach, the influence, and the infrastructure to set a new standard in giving consumers the clarity we deserve. But instead, Amazon is giving in to Trump's demands. Amazon should lead the industry in pricing transparency by clearly displaying tariff-related fees alongside product prices. The threat of ICE in schools creates unnecessary trauma, leads to damaged trust in educators, and causes students from undocumented and mixed-status families to miss school, leaving a lasting impact on their education. And surveillance and intimidation in our schools creates an unwelcoming and harmful environment for all children. U.S. gun laws are weak. Mexican drug cartels exploit those weaknesses. What's that equal? A flood of firearms. Trump has ratcheted up his fight with the judiciary when his FBI arrested a Wisconsin judge. And then, Trump’s press secretary wouldn’t rule out arresting Supreme Court justices. The Trump admin is accusing the judge of obstructing immigration officials — following through on Trump's threat against all local, state, and federal officials who try to stop his vile mass deportation plans. All while his administration defies federal court orders. This public show of force against the checks on Trump’s power is the latest move to take down our democracy and the rule of law. Republicans in the Senate are also pushing the No Rogue Rulings Act, a bill already passed in the House to take power away from federal judges and hand it to Trump. Our leaders must stand against this extreme power grab. The arrest of the county judge in Wisconsin, celebrated by FBI Director Kash Patel, is an extreme act meant to strike fear into any judge or other government official who goes against Trump’s agenda. And the No Rogue Rulings Act is an extreme right-wing reaction to federal judges placing injunctions on Trump’s policies. Trump’s showdown with the judiciary is a constitutional crisis. As Republicans plot HUGE budget plus ups at the Pentagon, they’d balance things with $880 BILLION in cuts elsewhere — and that includes life-saving programs like Medicaid. House Republicans just unveiled a Trump-backed bill that would pour $150 BILLION more into weapons and war. If you add that to the previously approved $886 BILLION Pentagon topline? We’re not just spending more on bombs and bullets than any other country in the world, we’re well past the $1 TRILLION threshold. The final negotiations on these bad budget plans are likely to come down to just the next few weeks — and the votes were always going to be close. But now, with a dozen Republicans signaling they won’t back a bill that includes massive cuts to Medicaid, this fight is becoming one we have a crucial shot at winning. This moment marks the start of a legislative sprint to press Congress to REJECT the misguided notion that BILLIONS more for weapons and war are the way to keep our communities safe. The first step?
