• Vote No to the State takeover and resegregation of public schools
The Governor of Georgia is proposing to change the constitution of Georgia to allow the state to control and takeover schools in high minority and improvished areas. If this law passes it will allow resegregation of these schools by putting them into one district and labeling them all as failing

  • SC - Discontinue Use of Unreliable Voting Machines
Voting machines have been proved over and over again to be anything but perfect. Votes can be recorded incorrectly or not all by malfunctioning machines. Confirmation screens and paper receipts let voters know that their votes are being counted and correctly. Confirmation screens and paper receipts can also help catch malfunctioning machines so they can be taken offline before even more votes are incorrectly recorded. At my polling place in Pickens County on February 27th, 2016, there was no accountability from the machines used for the primary election. Through contact with the local election board it was revealed that such machines are being used across the state of SC. Voters deserve to know their vote was cast correctly and should be provided with machines that provide confirmation screens and receipts. In SC, an Independent running presidential candidate must gather 10,000 signatures to be added to the state ballot. We hope to reach at least that many signatures of SC residents to present this petition to the election board.

  • Remove Michael Butera as CEO of National Association of Music Education
The assertion that people from different races do not possess equal music ability is inaccurate, extremely offensive and counter to the values we as music teachers and music teacher educators hold most dear. We would like to see the government create a task force to address diversity in music education that will construct a list of timely, actionable, constructive goals for addressing issues of inclusion in the music education profession.

  • Positive Mind and Positive Body
Creating awareness to the community about how the effects of being happy with yourself can benefit a person physically, emotionally, and mentally. It will stop society's views on the human body. Staying positive in any situation is key! Men and Women should each be happy with the body they have and love every inch of it. In 2015 students from around the world participated in the 'Science of Happiness' experiment created by the Greater Good of Science Club. Throughout the 10 weeks as the students were involved in more activities that made them feel good, their outlook on themselves also changed. They felt more confident to take more risks, try new things, and become leaders in their community spreading awareness of how important happiness is. It is important for young boys and girls to accept themselves in who they are so that they can begin breaking down walls and creating successful paths to the new generation. Be happy with your eyes, nose, tummy, heart, smile, and laugh. You are you and you are great!

  • Keep MARTA Public
MARTA has outsourced its paratransit service before. The result was so horrible that the federal government issued an injunction against MARTA under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), which MARTA is still not in compliance with today! MARTA Mobility, the only means of transportation for many of our city's most challenged citizens, is too important to be experimented with again. Cutting the pension and benefits of low-wage workers, and hiring new workers at even lower wages, will not improve the quality of MARTA Mobility service. Changing the eligibility process and adding new hurdles to disabled people applying for MARTA Mobility will not improve the quality of the service. County Commissions appoint MARTA Board members and approve public funds for MARTA. I am watching this issue, and related MARTA ballot initiatives, closely.

  • Jimmy John's: Suspend Your Racist Commercials
As a person of color, I'm not always startled by racism. The two Jimmy John's commercials that I saw back-to-back did shock me , though. They both play on stereotypes about Hispanics and Asians that are openly racist.

  • Sign - or, Kiss Your Access Goodbye!
Since he was appointed in 2012 by Governor Jerry Brown, Mr. Chet Widom has repeatedly violated the law that says he cannot decrease access standards that were first enacted in California in 1981. These early access standards set a high level of accessibility that greatly shaped the Americans with Disabilities Act. As someone who has represented the disability community for 40 years in California’s development of access standards, I have never witnessed such blatant violations of law. Nor have I ever seen such a shut-out of the disability community from any meaningful participation in the development of state regulations - regulations that impact the daily lives of people with disabilities. Please sign this important petition!

  • Pledge to remind every elected representative, appointed or otherwise, that they are a public ser...
It seems as though our elected representatives in Washington, D.C., USA, have forgotten the true meaning of public service; of being a public servant. Public service or civil service is defined, in part, by Wikipedia in the following manner: "A civil servant or public servant is a person in the public sector employed for a government department or agency. The extent of civil servants of a state as part of the "civil service" varies from country to country." Such are elected or appointed by the People of the United States of America and belong to the People of the United States of America. Period. Because of this fact, stranger than fiction, it is our duty as Americans, as Voters, to remind them of this fact, every day if possible, for as long as they occupy elected or appointed office on behalf of the People of the United States of America. Kindly and respectfully pledge with me to remind them of this fact, stranger than fiction, by adding your name to this petition. Thank you....

  • Protect our Delegates 1st and 15th Amendment Rights
This is what is happening in a few states to the Bernie delegates. Please sign this petition that will be sent to Debbie Wasserman Shultz and the Democratic National Committee in order to make this stop. While some states can support Bernie all the way others are discouraged and threatened to lose their delegate status. Some states require a pledge 'as a good democrat' to vote for whomever the nominee will be in the General Election. Let us make it clear, as Democrats, that we support Bernie Sanders and we will not be bullied or lose our 1st or 15th Amendment rights in order to 'please' the Democratic party. The below references are from two different States. Delegate suppression prior to being voted in... "I am a member of the (this state) Democratic Party State Committee and a leader of the (this county) County Democratic Party and received an email with the list of potential delegates that will be voted on in (your convention). I noticed that your name was on there. As a voting member of the #th district, I would first like to commend your passion for Bernie Sanders. I honestly do. Passion is needed in this country and you have shown it. However, we members of the (this)County Democratic Party and leaders within the (#)th district are discussing the votes in (this convention) and we do have a concern. We have looked over the potential candidates vying for both Hillary and Bernie delegates. As you know, you will have to sign a document in (convention) stating that you are a "good Democrat". With that said, we have discussed your posts indicating that you would vote for (another candidate) over Hillary Clinton if she became the nominee. As you know, you would be representing us in the district as a "Democrat", not just a Bernie supporter. So, we plan on being there in (local convention) and I wanted to reach out to you to see if your posts were serious about voting for (another candidate) over Hillary. If so, then we will certainly look at that in a unflattering way. We are wanting to reach out to you to see if you would reconsider that approach so we can have the confidence in your support for our party's nominee. Thank you." How the delegates respond after receiving this information and in fear of losing their delegate status... "Like I've said before, I won't be a part of the Bernie or Bust thing openly because it still is a risk of being targeted. I think it is careless that you would as well but that's your choice." These are fear tactics. Used to shut our Bernie delegates down and make them afraid to support their candidate at the National Convention too openly on social media. What if they are asked these questions at the Convention? This type of rhetoric needs to he prohibited from the National Convention and delegate process. Currently only 3 states (that we know of) are required to sign a pledge to vote for the Democratic Nominee in General Election if their candidate does not win. This is a national campaign and should be fair to candidates and delegates all the way around. Let the Democratic Party know that when we sign to vote for a candidate in the National Convention, we should not have to sign our vote away for the General Election. If the candidate the delegates have pledged to vote for does not make it, they then have a constitutional right to vote for whomever they choose in the General Election. All names and locations have been removed for delegate safety.

  • Ban Lead Ammunition!
It is time that we start to ban lead bullets in this country! Many people may not think that lead bullets are a problem, but there's quite a bit of lead deposited into our ecosystems every year, and it's extremely detrimental to our future. My name is Brenden Whitelaw, and I've lived on my family farm for most of my life. There are a lot of things people don't like to recognize, one of which is how lead is destroying the ecosystems of many farming valleys. The main problem that I've recognized while growing up here is a rampant rodent population due to the extermination of natural predators like coyotes, and foxes, for the benefit of local cattle farmers. That's just the start of the chain of problems. The coyote's main food source are cottontails and hares, so when we kill off the coyotes, farmers have to fill their niche as predator. "What's the problem with that?" many people will ask. The problem is that we are not the best replacement. We use lead bullets to squelch the overpopulation of rabbits and hares and most farmers don't dispose of the carcasses left behind. What happens to these lead filled carcasses? For the most part they get scavenged by birds of prey. Many farmers in this valley think that they are doing the birds a service, by helping them get a meal, but they aren't. The lead is building up in their systems, and they are no longer creating viable offspring at a sustainable rate; egg shells are weaker, so the egg gets crushed, lead interferes with bodily functions leading to organ failure in birds of prey. Many of the same symptoms that occur in human lead poisoning are occurring in many avian species. It is our responsibility to help them. The chain of Destruction doesn't end there. With the birds of prey population dwindling, there has been a spike in a few completely different species that are even more destructive than the cottontails and hares to local farmers. The animals are the ground squirrel, known as the chisler where I'm from, Voles, and Gophers, they are the main food source for birds of prey. It is nearly impossible to keep them under control without the help of our flying friends. Most farmers I know shoot these rodents, trying to keep them under control, "with what?" you ask, more lead bullets! The the cycle repeats itself, only to leave more and more lead deposited across the valley, eventually leaching into the soil and causing more problems with soil fertility and plant viability. What can we do about the problem? Farmers aren't going to want the government to stop killing natural predators, so the least we can do is ban lead ammunition, and make non-lead ammunition more affordable and accessible. Please sign this petition and help save our flying friends, that includes the symbol of our great nation, the bald eagle!

  • Turn The Beast on Bryant Into a Beauty on Bryant
I agree with the community coalition, which spent months of meetings discussing the 2000-2070 Bryant Project. This plan creates a "Beauty on Bryant" that includes: - 50% Land Dedication to the City to build affordable housing and community-serving spaces, with those affordable units designated for residents earning up to a maximum of 55% of the Average Median Income, with funding pre-dedicated by the CIty to build these affordable units, with shovels in the ground simultaneously to build the affordable units at the same time as the market rate units next door. - 100% Union Built, with maximized local hires and community apprenticeships - Both buildings would equally share the responsibility of accommodating a 1:1 replacement of 50,000 sq. ft. of affordable PDR space containing at least: · 15,000 sq. ft. nonprofit arts space · 15,000 sq. ft. maker and gathering space · 15,000 sq. ft. fabrication, manufacturing, repair The Beast on Bryant is opposed by the SF Building and Construction Trades Council, the SF Labor Council, the project’s direct neighbors and thousands of community members. The developer has fudged the numbers, providing only 18,000 sq. ft of develop-able affordable housing, although the minimum by law should be at least 22,750 sq. ft. He has replaced the 50,000 sq. ft. of PDR space with only 3,983 sq. ft. Should the project proceed, it will cause significant economic and social changes in the immediate area that will result in physical changes, including impacts on air quality, traffic and transportation, as well as negative impacts on the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District. (See CEQA guidelines, 15604 (e)). We ask that you postpone any decision on this project until our community concerns are addressed and studied with community input, and the project becomes a true Beauty on Bryant. • Reduce Racial Tension in Utah Schools
We should ban the Confederate flag from being displayed on school grounds outside of the context of the teaching curriculum because it is a symbol of hate. There has been escalating problem of racial tension at my school, AMES high school. Students and teachers on both sides of this issue are getting increasingly upset, and I am concerned for the well-being of my peers.
