• Stop Dangerous Permitless Carry in Louisiana!
As a Louisiana native, I support the Second Amendment. But I also support my communities. If you agree with members of law enforcement, local governments, and tourism experts from around the state that allowing dangerous people to carry loaded, hidden guns with no safety training is not the future Louisiana deserves, please sign on! And if you're from out of state, please leave a comment and let us know how armed, dangerous people would affect your travel plans to our state!

  • Legalize responsible adult marijuana use in California
It’s time for a sensible law in California to control, regulate, and tax the adult use of marijuana while protecting children. We envision a California where the broken, costly system of marijuana prohibition no longer exists to endanger the lives and livelihoods of generations of Californians. Our measure will replace it with a legal, responsible, and transparent system of marijuana regulation that will make California stronger a model for the rest of the nation. Sign on now to support the Adult Use of Marijuana Act -- and join the important steps of a national movement!

  • Implement the EPA's Clean Power Plan in Wisconsin!
Our children are depending on us to leave them a world worth living in, not one whose climate has spun dangerously out of control just so a few corporations can line their pockets a little longer. This is not a game and time is running out!

  • Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto: speak out against discriminatory laws in North Carolina and Mississ...
As an openly gay man I am disappointed about the passage of HB 2 in North Carolina, which prevents local municipalities from passing nondiscrimination ordinances that go beyond what is written in state law and also requires that transgender people use the restroom that corresponds with the sex listed on their birth certificate. I am also concerted about Mississippi's governor signing HB 1523 into law, which would make it legal for any public business to cite religious beliefs in refusing service to LGBT people. Discrimination of any kind has no place in our country and so I am asking Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto to join the Mayors Against Discrimination from 9 other major cities across the US, including the mayor of Philadelphia, by refusing to use taxpayer dollars either for travel to North Carolina and Mississippi or in the purchase of any products from these two states.

  • Make NY an open primary
There are many many voters in NY state who would like to vote in the heavily contested Democratic primary, especially independents, but the deadline for changing registration was over 6 months ago - long before the presidential campaign was in full swing, and they are being disenfranchised through no fault of their own. As long as a voter is legitimately registered in NY, he or she should be allowed to vote in the primary of their choice - or at least be given a chance to think about it before settling on a party preference. The primary should either be changed from closed to open, or voters should be allowed same-day registration.

  • Reduce traffic fatalities
Arbitrary or obsolete speed limits encourage unsafe driving practices, such as following too closely or passing in unsafe situations. As County Highway Safety Chairman, I feel this needs to be addressed.

  • Tell Congress: We want protection from toxic chemicals
For decades, our nation's major chemical law, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), has been too weak to protect us from toxic chemicals in our everyday products. Congress is putting the final touches on an update to the law, but before it hits the President's desk, one big problem needs to be addressed. Chemical industry lobbyists and some lawmakers are pushing hard to preempt efforts by states to protect us from toxic chemicals. States across the country have led the way to protect their citizens from toxic chemicals, and we need to ensure they can continue to safeguard us. Tell Congress to preserve state power in the final bill so states can continue to protect us from toxic chemicals.

  • More Radiation in Drinking Water? Tell EPA No.
Right now, if a disaster were to strike — like a fracking truck spilling radioactive wastewater near your water, or even a nuclear disaster like Fukushima — the Safe Drinking Water Act sets clear limits to protect your health and safety from radiation. But the EPA is considering increasing that limit for anywhere from one year to four years after an emergency.

People should get clean, safe drinking water in an emergency and should not be forced to drink water with a vastly higher concentration of radioactivity than considered acceptable under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

We can’t let the EPA cave to the nuclear industry.

Sign the petition to stop the EPA from increasing the amount of radiation allowed in your drinking water. Your message will be sent to President Obama and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy.

  • Repeal anti-squatting law (section 144 LASPOA) in England Wales
Squatters Action for Secure Homes (SQUASH) have produced two reports, “The Case Against Section 144” (March 2013), and “Homes, Not Jails” (April 2015) outlining the failings of s144 LASPOA, and how the new law is disproportionately affecting the homeless and vulnerably-housed. Many young people have been arrested, prosecuted and jailed unnecessarily under the law, while others have died from exposure in the winter months.
