• Cats and Wildlife Need Protection, Too
Cats deserve protection too. That's why all mainstream animal welfare organizations, like the U.S. Humane Society and ASPCA and the American Veterinary Medical Association, recommend that cats not be allowed to roam loose. Excluding cat owners from most of our animal codes is not good for cats. Our animal codes also ignore one of the main threats to our city's wildlife. The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and Fish and Wildlife Services estimate that domestic cats kill 2.4 billion birds and at least 12.3 billion mammals annually, almost all native species. This is not acceptable to many residents of Anacortes. Also forgotten was the protection of the property rights of people who want to safely feed birds in cat-free backyards and residents who don't want cat feces in their gardens and children's sand-boxes. Please include cat owners in our animal codes and license cats so their owners also help pay for animal control services.

  • Stop the most dangerous methane leak in history
California Governor Brown has declared a State of Emergency, after an uncontrolled gas leak at SoCalGas's Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility in a Los Angeles neighborhood. This has been spewing out over 50 tons of potent methane gas per hour. The Obama Administration has failed to provide any resources to the State of California, or even make a statement. Methane is the most potent greenhouse gas, and once it enters into the atmosphere it takes about 12 years to break down. This is the LARGEST gas leak in history, and the gas company is estimating another two months until they can stop the leak. Join me in urging the Obama Administration to release a statement and send urgent and needed resources to California. This leak must be stopped as soon as possible. Photo Credit: Resilience

  • Arizona Legislature: Don't endanger our College students
Through personal experience, I know how good and decent individuals can be pushed to extremes by personal and academic pressures, experienced during their college experience. The saddest are those who commit suicide because they cannot fit into the social activities. Or, because they cannot accept the possibility of not measuring up to family expectations academically. The scariest are those who decide someone else is responsible for their social or academic problems and choose violence to resolve the issue. Trust me, staring down the barrel of a gun, at point blank range, in the hand of someone you thought was your friend, is a life changing moment. Even if I had a gun, I would have been unable to "take out the bad guy with a gun" before he redecorated my surroundings with the contents of my brain pan. Some individuals can handle the pressure of college life, as well as the responsibility of gun ownership. Many cannot. Please. Let us err on the side of caution, and allow our students the opportunity to enjoy their college years, as much as possible. The world is not as scary, as some would have us believe.

  • Erie County Legislature: Keep the Closing Time at 4am!
The closing time of bars in Erie County has been 4am since prohibition ended. We are a community that is growing with a city that has thousands of folks at work in the hospitality industry. Why would we want to cut the hours where people can make a living when there are more and more people working different hours who are moving into our region? Keep the closing times where they are and let individual business owners decide if they want to close earlier!

  • Decriminalize recreational cannabis!
Thousands of young people in our state are affected by these outdated laws. We need to move on to the 21st century and demand our local legislators and governor Martinez to take action. We need to follow the lead of Colorado and Washington that have been benefiting immensely from the sales of cannabis. They are putting all of this new generated income, that would otherwise go to a Mexican cartel, and putting it into education and rebuilding their infrastructure. This is exactly what out state needs, being one of the poorest states in this country for decades now, we can take this opportunity and make New Mexico a thriving state for all. Not only can we improve the local economy, but we can stop destroying the lives of thousands of young people that get thrown in prison for having a cannabis "offence". Alcohol has proven to be one of the most dangerous drugs in our country, taking the lives of thousands in our state, yet it is legally sold and regulated. We ask for the same treatment for a much more mild substance that hasn't ever killed anyone. We need common sense laws that aren't based on an outdated and ignorant mentally. Tell your local legislators and governor Martinez to act now because this is exactly what we need in our state!

Detained for the "crime" of having outspoken American ideals, Otto Warmbier has been subject to unjustified imprisonment and disgraceful violation of his civil liberties by the Repressed People's Dictatorship of North Korea. • McDonalds - Stop Asking If I Want A Boy or Girl Toy
My son Khristian wanted me to help him start this petition : My son Khristian likes McDonalds. He also happens to like toys that you label as being for girls. We always get asked if his Happy Meal is for a boy or a girl. It's obviously for a boy, but maybe he wants the toy that comes in the girls meal. Tonight, when asked this question, we asked instead, what toys were available. He picked Shopkins. When he got his meal he looked inside and it was a fairy toy, presumably, the one that was a replacement for a girl. This led us to a conversation about why they always ask if it's for a boy or a girl. He likes what he likes and isn't afraid to ask for a toy labeled for a girl, but he thought, that if they just gave a choice between the toys available, that other little boys and girls, might also feel comfortable asking for the toy that they want, rather than the toy society says is the right one for them. Please sign his petition to request McDonald's starts asking for a toy choice based on the toy options rather than on the child's gender.
