Shell has the GREEN light and is ready to do some hefty drilling in the Arctic. Top officials from the Obama Administration say that there is a 75 percent chance of a major Arctic Oil Spill. I need your help in urging top officials with the Seattle Port, State of Oregon and United States Department of Interior. Their dangerous drilling machine is ready to leave the Seattle Port and head to the Arctic. Are you ready to make sure it doesn't go anywhere near our ocean and polar bears?

New York City Police Department claims an investigation is in the works regarding this police brutality incident in Staten Island's 122nd precinct . But as yet, NYPD will not say if any disciplinary measures have been taken. The video of the assault is self-evident that these four officers lack the appropriate judgment to safely serve our city's citizens and have no business patrolling the streets of New York City armed with guns and badges. There is nothing that indicates the level of force was appropriate, or that four officers could not have detained the subject without hospitalizing him.

An oil company is proposing to drill in Broward County, only a few miles from the city of Miramar. This oil well would be located in the Florida Everglades and would endanger critical water resources that millions of South Florida residents rely on. This permit is one of several recent proposals to drill in the Florida Everglades. And loopholes in state law allow drilling companies to use fracking techniques to produce more oil and gas, with almost no oversight over the chemicals being injected underground. All forms of drilling and fracking (including hydraulic fracturing, acid fracturing and acid matrix stimulation) are inherently unsafe, especially in Florida where our aquifer is so vital to our livelihoods. In states across the country, the extraction of oil and gas has led to serious health and environmental issues, and communities are taking action by passing ordinances to prevent fracking. Florida state agencies are currently reviewing this drilling proposal, but the Broward County Commissioners can weigh in by passing a binding ordinance prohibiting this well and any future drilling and fracking in the county.

I, and I'm sure many other consumers, would prefer not to do business with this company. I would like choice in delivery service when I order online.

If Big Oil can build pipelines across the country to transport their oil, why can't we build pipelines and canals to transport water from areas of flooding (having too much water) to that of areas of drought (like California right now)? Think of all of the people who could find work building these pipelines and canals. And if there were a spill from a pipeline carrying water, it wouldn't endanger our wildlife or pollute our environment. Please sign this petition! Hollywood has a long history of white-washing and crafting White Savior narratives, but this is one step too far. A historically accurate film about the Stonewall Riots would center the stories of queer and gender-nonconforming people of color like Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. Not relegate them to background characters in the service of a white cis-male fictional protagonist.

I am tired of self serving individuals using their role in our state's government to further their own political careers and lining their own pockets.

Americans have relied on their elected officials to preserve the integrity of professional sports. In the past, we have seen our leaders work tirelessly to protect our beloved games from harmful influences such as illegal gambling, criminal involvement, and steroid use. As fans, we are grateful for the steps Congress has taken to ensure that the best qualities in sports will always prevail. At this point and time, we are requesting that the Committee take urgent and immediate action to investigate the conduct of our nation’s largest sports conglomerate, the National Football League (NFL).

We met with bank officials in April and stood with community groups in asking US Bank to stop foreclosures on families during the school year, renew their promise to facilitate cash remittances to East Africa, and discuss creating an alternative harmful pay day loans. Israel and I also addressed issues affecting our co-workers. We are the backbone of the financial industry, the front line workers that generate billions in dollars of year for US Bank and many of us struggle with low pay and unstable employment. We are subject to unreasonable sales goals and performance metrics. We want to be able to provide our customer s with the services they need, not worry about being written up if we don’t sell enough products. Israel was fired by US bank because he is a leader in the Committee for Better Banks, a coalition of bank workers and community members who are trying to improve the banking industry to create good jobs for folks like me. Israel’s whistleblowing actions should be encouraged not punished. Israel believes, “At a time when banks are reaping record profits, US Bank executives should spend less time trying to silence its employees and more time listening to them and the needs of the community.” Join the Committee for Better Banks and demand that US Bank rehire Israel and address the important issues raised by our community! Why is this important? Bank workers, who have worked years in the same bank are finding themselves earning less than when they started. Employees experience constant changes to sales goals, bonus incentives, and benefits, resulting in job insecurity and a loss of wealth. Rather than rewarding employees for collecting money due to the bank, US Bank punishes them for not prolonging the debt payments. This incentive system is bad for workers, bad for customers and ultimately harmful to the company's future. Investing in US employees is not only good business but also huge cost savings technique over the long haul. Rather than feeling disposable and leaving the job, employees feel more ownership over the success of the bank leading to less turnover and subsequent costs associated with training an ever-changing workforce.
