• IRS: Stop hiding dark money!
Secretive megadonors are ready to unleash a tidal wave of spending on the 2016 election -- and the IRS is helping them hide their identities. Groups on the right, like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, and left, like Patriot Majority USA, buy millions of dollars in political ads to influence elections after claiming a special nonprofit status that lets them keep their donors secret. And the IRS takes their word for it! We need to close this loophole BEFORE next November. Demand that the IRS enforce the rules and stop millionaires from abusing our tax laws to pump secret money into our elections!

  • Stop Taking California's Water
California is in a severe drought and every drop of water is needed to sustain the residents, wildlife, fisheries and farms in our state. As a California resident, I am outraged that a for-profit company plans to extract and sell this precious resource. It is corporate irresponsibility at it's worst extreme.

  • Stop Texas from censoring textbooks
Texas has decided to change the textbooks for schools by deleting the Civil War, slavery, and other significant events of U.S. history. This should not happen. As a country, we must remember history--good or bad. You cannot delete history. Our children will not know the real facts of history.

  • Leave the Fireworks Law in MI alone!
Leave the Fireworks Safety Act 256 of 2011 alone. There is no need to repeal this Act as it does not stop the fireworks from being in the hands of those that incorrectly use them. This will only help keep bringing extra money into Michigan instead of sending it to other states.

  • Stop the pipeline through the Pinelands!
This pipeline will carry gas produced in the Marcellus Shale through fracking, contributing to major pollution and climate change impacts. The Pinelands is a truly unique and ecologically important region and protecting it is critical not only for our water supply, but for biodiversity as well. This pipeline is going to promote water pollution from fracking and cooling towers, as well as air pollution from power plants, while creating irreversible harm to wetlands, streams, and damaging important open spaces. I know firsthand how pollution can impact our health, because one of my family members contracted a rare blood cancer from chemical exposure.

  • USTA Norcal Adult League Tennis: Let players play for more than one team in playoffs.
The USTA LLAR4B Adult League rule only allows players to play for one team going into playoffs. Therefore, players must choose one team only, and cannot play for all their teams if they are on multiple teams and if their teams made it to playoffs. Are you a USTA captain who's had to withdraw its team at playoffs because you lost players to other teams? Or are you a player on a team who's been in a dilemma figuring out which team to commit to at playoffs? Have you been frustrated when you chose the wrong team for playoffs and sadly saw your other team move to districts without you? If you are a USTA member and answered "YES" to any of the above questions, join our cause to change the USTA rule by signing this petition, and show USTA that you agree that all players should be able to play on multiple teams at playoffs, and should only choose one team when and if they get to districts. Please include your USTA number in the comments box when signing the petition. Thank you! • NYC Officials: CreateTruly Affordable Housing
There is little to no truly affordable housing in NYC, and landlords use credit checks as a form of discrimination against potential tenants in order to keep charging exorbitant amounts of money for rent. As someone who has been directly affected by this issue for many years; it has become even more difficult to find an apartment for my growing family. Your credit history should not limit your ability to find a home.

  • Stop the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from Pushing Cigarettes Globally
We know that smoking is addictive and damaging to the health of both smoker and second-hand smokers. Having lost their stronghold in the U.S., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is working against developing countries' health measures, irresponsibly pushing U.S. money and clout against that of poorer nations, to maintain profits for American tobacco. This is wrong and must stop! http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/01/business/international/us-chamber-works-globally-to-fight-antismoking-measures.html

  • Tell Congress: Let President Obama unmask the dark money!
President Obama is taking strong steps to require corporations to tell us what they spend on politics. It’s a reasonable step in the right direction. Everyone is for transparency, right? Wrong. In fact, Republicans in Congress are doing whatever they can behind closed doors to keep corporate political spending in the dark. They recently slipped a provision into a financial services bill that would actually prohibit the IRS from developing rules to unmask the dark money. It was approved by the House Appropriations Committee and could make it to the floor for a final vote any day. They thought they could get away with it. They thought nobody would notice -- but we’re calling them out. Sign the Petition: tell Congress to let President Obama unmask the dark money!

  • AETNA: PROFIT OVER PATIENT CARE!
I now use a wheelchair due to pain. Aetna has denied a pre-certification from my orthopedic surgeon for a Sacroiliac Joint Fusion. Aetna determined that this potential pain-reducing procedure is not medically necessary. The National Institute of Health has published articles demonstrating the high success of pain reduction of both open and minimally invasive SI Joint Fusion, although minimally invasive has a higher success of pain reduction. Also, implanted instrumentation used in these types of procedures has been approved by the FDA. Aetna uses MCG guidelines to determine this surgical procedure. MCG criteria is motivated to reduce expenses and increase insurance companies’ profits through their products which is why 8 of 10 largest US health plans utilize their services (if they didn’t produce results, MCG would not have clients). Aetna has further denied my surgeon's request for the procedure after the peer to peer review and is slow to respond to my written appeal keeping me in debilitating pain and reducing my pay while I am out on disability.

  • Tell Metra: Ensure Workers Who Build Rail Cars Are Safe on the Job
Metra, the commuter rail system in northeast Illinois, needs to take a stand for workers who build the rail cars they use every day—and there’s one simple thing it can do right now. Nippon Sharyo, Metra’s rail car manufacturer, recently fired Chicago worker Jenn Svenkerud after she complained about fall hazards on the job. Jenn’s complaints should not have been ignored by Nippon Sharyo, especially since Occupational Health and Safety Administration has conducted six different investigations and slapped Nippon Sharyo with more than $34,000 in fines for 11 different safety violations, including, you guessed it, employees exposed to fall hazards. We need Metra to hold contractors accountable when they don’t put workers’ safety first. Sign the petition now to tell members of the Metra Board of Directors to demand Nippon Sharyo reinstate Jenn Svenkerud and make the safety of workers who build Metra rail cars a priority.
