Stop the giant pipeline next to a nuclear plant!I am scared to death of the Spectra corporate Algonquin Pipeline extension which will come within 105 feet of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, creating a potential Fukushima on the Hudson. This is a fact attested to by independent experts including Paul Blanch, a 50-year nuclear power and energy engineer and Richard Kuprewicz, a pipeline expert of 40 years' experience. There is no other pipeline that comes close to a nuclear plant.861 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Ellen Cantarow

Help Children With Mental InstabilityMental Instability in children is a large problem in the United States today. Due to disconnected families, kids suffering from mental instability are unable to gather the treatment they need to help live a stable life. Without the necessary treatment, kids suffering from mental instability can inflict pain upon themselves and even others, which sometimes can be fatal. Help get these kids the help they need and help the community as a whole while you're at it.92 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Matt Skolnick

Sign the petition to Hillary Clinton: Oppose fast track for the TPPThe Trans-Pacific Partnership is a corporate trade deal that would ship U.S. jobs overseas, endanger our environment and even undercut regulations like Wall Street reform. It is being negotiated in secret, and even those who divulge its details could go to jail. Congress is dangerously close to giving the President (and any President for the next six years) “fast-track” approval for the TPP and other trade agreements. Most House Democrats have come out against it, but the rest are under intense pressure from the White House and big business to go along. As the Democratic front-runner for President in 2016, Hillary Clinton can show true leadership on fast track. She has already come out against some parts of the trade agreement, but has to date only said she has been for some agreements—and against others. Hillary Clinton opposing fast-track would be a game changer in helping us defeat it. Sign the petition to Hillary Clinton: Please oppose fast-track for the TPP.4,722 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Paul Hogarth

NYT: Investigate Daley’s Pro-TPP ClaimsOn May 19, former Commerce Secretary William Daley had an op-ed in the New York Times in support of the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. [1] About this op-ed, New York Times columnist and Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman has written, [2] “William Daley’s pro-TPP op-ed in today’s Times is just awful, on multiple levels…But what really annoyed me, even if it’s not necessarily the worst bit, was this: ‘But today, of the 40 largest economies, the United States ranks 39th in the share of our gross domestic product that comes from exports. This is because our products face very high barriers to entry overseas in the form of tariffs, quotas and outright discrimination.’ Actually, no. We have a low export share because we’re a big country… claiming that the relatively low US export share says anything at all about trade barriers makes me want to bang my head against a wall.” The New York Times fact-checks the op-eds that it publishes. Should the New York Times have published such a grossly misleading claim? Can NYT editors dispute that the claim was grossly misleading, if Paul Krugman attests that it was? Should the NYT publish a correction, clarification, or editor’s note to accompany the op-ed? Urge NYT editors to investigate by signing and sharing our petition. Defend Local ProgressHouse Bill 4052 would take power away from communities in order to boost corporate profits. Michigan’s 1 percent shouldn’t be allowed to overturn decisions they don’t like made by local governments, but now they’re trying to repeal local laws that reflect our values, like raising minimum wages and ensuring small business owners don’t get left behind by taxpayer-funded development projects. Protect local progress today.1,440 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Lonnie Scott

Tell Christie: Put Every Exxon Dollar to RestorationChris Christie’s horrible settlement with ExxonMobil just keeps getting worse. No matter how much Exxon ends up paying to restore the wetlands it polluted, people in Bayonne and Linden could see zero dollars put back into restoring their communities. How could this have happened? Gov. Christie has bungled our state’s finances, so he rigged the budget last year to raid funds from corporate polluters to pay for basic expenses. Now, no matter how much money our state wins in damages from corporate polluters like Exxon, there’s a cap on the amount that goes to restore wetlands and rivers. People in Bayonne and Linden have suffered enough. Sign the petition calling on Gov. Christie to send every dollar from Exxon to restore New Jersey communities.930 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by New Jersey League of Conservation Voters

Start times for Massachusetts high schools after 8:00 am.I am a high school student and I believe that school starts far too early. After so many studies have been published about this topic, it is strange that changes have not been made.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tommy Lucey

Tell Gov. McCrory to Stand WITH women, not against themSometimes, you have to decide which side you’re on, and now is the time to make your choice: do you stand with women, or stand in the way? Enough is enough. It’s time to make fairness, opportunity and reproductive freedom for women a reality in our country. Through our Stand with Women or Stand in the Way campaign, we are demanding that our elected representatives guarantee equal rights when it comes to fair treatment on the job, health care and having families. It’s a simple choice: Stand with women by taking action to advance fairness, opportunity and freedom… or stand in the way. Which side do you stand on? Take a stand for women in North Carolina by signing our petition against unnecessary regulation of women's rights in our state.3,648 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Kevin J. Rogers, Action NC

Protect Your Financial FreedomThe growing gap between what Americans need for retirement and what they have is in the trillions of dollars. That’s why it’s critically important that those representing different interests have an ample amount of time to submit comments to the Department of Labor on this proposed rule.59 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sheila Jamison

Tell Gov. Brown and the CA legislature to invest in early education!Last year, Governor Brown and the California legislature made the historic commitment to fully fund preschool for all low-income 4-year-olds. But so far, we haven't seen this investment included in the proposed budget. Leading economists agree: investments in high-quality early learning programs like preschool actually save future dollars for everyone. In fact, children who have high-quality early learning experiences are more likely to succeed in school, graduate from high school, gain stable employment, and are less likely to be arrested later in life. Studies show that for every dollar invested in high-quality early learning, we see a return of up to $8.00. Please sign on to our message and our open letter below, asking Governor Jerry Brown and our state legislature to make the necessary – and promised! – investments needed to expand early learning opportunities in our state: *********************************************************************** As a California resident, I am asking you to keep your promise to California families and support a budget that invests in the following top priorities: • Preschool for all low-income 4 year olds in California: Fully fund the commitment made in last year's state budget to provide preschool to all low-income 4 year olds in the coming years. • Access to quality infant and toddler care: Address the state's significant need for access, and ensure quality, affordable care and education for our youngest children ages birth to three. • Affordable programs for families: Increase reimbursement rates so that early learning providers can continue to provide quality, affordable services. • Increase quality in all early learning settings: Invest in quality improvement efforts to ensure strong outcomes for young children in all settings. This should include supporting improvements in the way early learning teachers are trained at community colleges and allowing infant and toddler programs to participate in the Quality Rating and Improvement System Block Grant. Study after study has shown that high-quality early learning and care is one of the best investments we can make to impact a child's future and increase economic sustainability for families and communities. The reality is that parents earning minimum wage would need to spend 71% of their salary on full-day infant care, and the costs of quality child care and early learning programs exceed the costs of higher education for many families. And while we have made some progress, we still have work to do to meet the needs of working families, especially those with babies and toddlers. Last year's budget included a $273 million increased investment for early learning and a commitment to provide quality preschool to all low-income 4 year olds in the coming years. The demand for preschool spaces remains more than 8 times the number of spaces available according to the California Department of Education -- that's more than 32,000 low-income 4 year olds that were still not being served in California this year. The Department acknowledges that the need is likely even greater. Leading economists agree, investments in high-quality early learning programs like preschool actually save future dollars for everyone. In fact, children who have high-quality early learning experiences are more likely to succeed in school, graduate from high school, gain stable employment, and are less likely to be arrested later in life. Studies show that for every dollar invested in high-quality early learning, we see a return of up to $8.00. We can, and must do more for our children, and we need you to stand up and make their future a top priority. California cannot wait any longer to expand access to quality childcare and early learning programs. Investing in California's future means investing in our next generation, and the time to do that is now. I respectfully urge you to prioritize access, affordability, and quality investments for our youngest children and their families in this year's state budget. Sincerely,36 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elisa Batista
