• Thank President Obama for pledging to not sign the Keystone Project
I am strongly opposed to the Keystone XL Project. It is environmentally dangerous, provides no benefits for working Americans and is principally backed by corporate interests who control Congress. Enough is enough!

To bring awareness to the unjust sentencing in the state of Oklahoma. Violent criminals are being set free while the nonviolent drug offenders are serving life and life without parole.

  • Stop the prison move
The people were never asked if they wanted this prison move. We have, however, been asking for a better school system. Statistically, need for future prison beds can be calculated from the number of 4th graders who are not fully competent at the 3rd grade level. That is why people are always fussing about Kindergarten through 3rd grade as the first step to fixing our educational system. We could actually get that right instead of messing with a big prison project. Starving education while building prisons is called "building a pipeline to prison." Draper built around the prison, and has an established network of experienced employees, volunteers, and vendors. Other communities are unprepared to adapt quickly, and are saying NIMBY. Obviously the price of an alternative site is going up rapidly with towns rejecting the idea rather than competing for it. The prison study has a couple things right we should act on. They recommend reforming sentencing. Many have questioned the harshness and length of non-violent drug sentences, while other states decriminalize marijuana and tax and regulate it like alcohol. We need to stop the ballooning prison population. The prison we have is more than we need if we straightened out our treatment of at risk school kids and pot smokers. We have room to build a taller building or two as needed--which is not now. And on the other hand--once our land hungry legislature takes the federal lands, there ought to be a free place for a prison. What's the hurry?

  • Support the Charter Renewal for FFA!
Your support is needed! Over the past few weeks, FFA has been the subject of much rumor and controversy. Our charter is up for renewal by the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware State Board of Education next Thursday, January 15. Positive comments from the public are critical to encourage DOE and the State Board to renew our charter. Per the email sent out last week, the FFA Board has appointed Mrs. Kathleen Connor and Mrs. Amy Novosel interim Chief Administrators. These two professionals are the epitome of good moral character as well as being extraordinarily talented educators. FFA is strong academically as evidenced by the Academic Performance Framework, is alive with extra-curricular opportunities for the students, and our students have participated in service projects that have benefited our community. We encourage you to sign this petition supporting the renewal of our charter. Thank you.

  • PA pipeline
We in Lancaster county are against the Atlantic Sunrise pipeline, as the government gives Williams Co. the right to take our property, our nature preserves, and our farmland to run gas overseas for company profits. This is against the people's rights in this country.

  • Carmen Farina - All students should know about Ebola
We don't want any other African American kid in New York City to be bullied due to misinformation about Ebola, as it happened with the two Senegalese brothers. It is important that all the students learn about Ebola virus, because people have the misconception that all people who came from Africa to United States have the Ebola virus.

  • Tell Gov. Walker to Drop The Lawsuit Attacking Wisconsin Immigrants and Families
Recently, the State of Wisconsin joined a host of other states in suing the federal government over the President's executive action on immigration. In addition to subjecting thousands of Wisconsin families to deportation, this lawsuit, if successful, would deny work permits to thousands of Wisconsin immigrants and deprive our state of $19 million in much-needed tax revenue over the next five years. President Obama had to act on immigration after Republicans in Congress chose to do nothing. And despite the fact that President Obama's immigration action will benefit countless families in Wisconsin and generate millions of dollars in taxes, Gov. Scott Walker and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen are joining with their political partisans to block it. Back in 2013, Gov. Walker came out in support of a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US, but then he walked it back. Now by joining in this lawsuit, Gov. Walker is failing yet again to stand for Wisconsin's immigrant families. We need Gov. Walker and his administration to immediately end the lawsuit against President Obama and stop the attacks against immigrant workers and families living in Wisconsin. They are part of our state and they deserve a way to become documented residents, not shunned and set up for deportation.

  • Ask the Republican Leaders: Where are the Women?
Of the 22 Republicans on the committee that handles most bills on abortion rights in the House, zero are women . A record number of women were elected last fall. It’s pathetic that Republican anti-choice leaders didn’t appoint any women in their party to the committee that votes on abortion – health care that only women need. If you think it's shameful that House leaders don't have even one Republican woman on this important committee that votes on abortion and women’s reproductive health, add your name.

  • Tell Mitch McConnell to Back Off Our Reproductive Rights
Mitch McConnell was just sworn in as Senate majority leader, which means nothing is stopping him from following through on his threat to move a 20-week abortion ban. The scariest part is that the U.S. House of Representatives has already passed a 20-week ban, and they can easily do so again. Abortion is a personal decision that should be left up to women and their families – definitely not Mitch McConnell. We have to get out ahead of McConnell’s attack and show that the majority of Americans want him to focus on the economy and jobs, not taking away abortion access. Make sure McConnell hears from you. Tell Mitch McConnell to stop this attack on abortion.

  • Tell businesses to stop Georgia's hate bill.
Sen. Josh McKoon and other right-wing extremists are once again trying to legalize discrimination in Georgia. Last year, Georgia businesses like Coca-Cola, Delta, Home Depot, IHG and UPS spoke out against the legislation and were instrumental in killing this bad bill with a good name. But this year, they've been silent. Religious freedom is already protected by the First Amendment, so this legislation would do nothing but allow people to use their "deeply held religious beliefs" as an excuse for discrimination or abuse. Georgia’s religious "freedom” legislation would be an enormous leap backwards for equality, civil rights and child protection. With the help of Georgia’s business leaders, we can defeat these extremist bills and continue to move Georgia forward.
