• Save our Traditions!
The Alumni of Ysleta High School are outraged by the current administration's lack of respect for traditions that have been in place for decades. It is part of their responsibility to uphold those traditions, not destroy them. We want to know that the administration is willing to teach current students the traditions of the Pride of the Lower Valley. Some of the problems many alums have noticed: 1. No separate Drum Corps; it's part of the band 2. Horse rider either missing or unable to get to the stadium(should be a current student) 3. Moved the Honored Ex Assembly to Wednesday 4. Almost moved the parade to Wednesday 5. Foam costume mascots instead of real people. 6. Considering moving Graduation to the Don Haskins Center 7. Not allowing the football team to touch Kawliga for good luck. We are sure that there are other issues that exist and are currently forming a committee to meet with current administration and the school board representative. We want to know what we can do, but it has been well known that getting answers from the current administration has been difficult. They are not transparent. This petition is more about showing the administration that current YHS alum value those traditions and will do what we can in order to make sure they stay in place. We are not asking for removal of the administration! We want to work with them! Signing this petition means you want to be part of the solution and will be willing to help out with your time or fundraising.

  • Anti-Whistleblower (Ag-Gag) Legislation
The industrial agriculture industry has been pushing for legislation that would make it illegal for employees or investigative journalists to film operations at their facilities, including farms and meat processing plants. Historically, these videos have uncovered serious abuses by these companies. With this legislation, which has passed in several States, future abuses will go unchecked.

  • Save 920 Missouri Street, Lawrence, KS
The lovely century-old home located at 920 Missouri Street is slated for demolition on October 19. The Oread Neighborhood is losing its architectural gems rapidly, and this home is one of the few remaining on the 900 block of Missouri. The new owners (Joe and Gina Keating) intend to tear it down and build a duplex with 8 bedrooms for rent. Please sign below if would like to help prevent the demolition of this home and preserve the neighborhood. Historic update: Mattie Crumrine, Professor of French, lived at 920 Missouri while teaching at KU for 43 years. She walked up the hill as so many of us do every day to work on campus because she saw no need for a car. Her sister Anne lived on Missouri with her most of those 43 years.

  • Demand a full apology for and retraction of inflammatory remarks made by Mr. Yusuf Shabazz
Our community deserves and demands full accountability from our elected representatives. Mr. Shabazz's comments were unethical and inflammatory and could lead to the direct harm of a law-abiding citizen. His remarks also send the wrong message to our youth and do nothing to assuage the community's pain over the shooting.

  • NO to Fluoride in San Jose Water!
As a resident of the City of San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley, I believe there is NO benefit to having fluoride in our drinking water. Residents of this great city are not at all informed and many are horrified that this has not been made more public for a proper public response. At the very least, the ethical basis for exposing a whole population to a "therapeutic agent" without informed consent must be called into question. Santa Clara Valley Water District recently agreed to go ahead with fluoridation beginning this December: http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2016/10/25/south-bay-activists-threaten-to-sue-over-water-fluoridation/ "Seven decades since American cities began fluoridating public water supplies to prevent tooth decay, the South Bay remains something of a holdout. It’s the largest metropolitan region in the nation to not fluoridate its water. That’s about to change, but not without some pushback. Activists have threatened to sue the Santa Clara Valley Water District to prevent it from adding the mineral, which it planned to start doing this December." PER SCVWD: "Residents who have other dental or health related questions or concerns about fluoride should call 1-844-435-8420. For questions on drinking water safety, members of the public are encouraged to contact Drinking Water Toxicologist Bruce A. Macler, Ph.D., of the U.S. EPA, Region 9, at 415-972-3569. Comments or questions directed to Santa Clara Valley Water District can be submitted through our Access Valley Water system or by calling 408-630-2020."

  • Save Tucson's cats -- Don't let city kill new community cat program!
Just a month ago, Pima County launched a progressive lifesaving program to save Tucson's homeless cats by spaying and neutering instead of euthanizing them. But now, due to a budget dispute between Pima County and the City of Tucson, the entire program is at risk -- with more shelter deaths likely as a result. You can help us turn this around by letting Tucson's elected officials know you won’t stand for it! Pima County's community cat program, approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors just last month, has attracted $900,000 in private funding and is a model of how to humanely and effectively reduce homeless cat populations. By contrast, the cost of the "traditional" approach to managing community cats -- euthanizing them by the thousands, and with no end in sight -- falls entirely on taxpayers and has proven to be both ineffective and publicly unpalatable. In less than a month, this program has lowered cat euthanasia at Pima Animal Care Center by more than 65 percent and should be the pride of city leaders, not a political football. Please sign this petition today and take a moment to reach out to Tucson's elected officials and let them know this is the kind of progressive, lifesaving program we want for our city!
